I know it's been said before but I feel compelled to say: that snare tone is unbelievably perfect

It's said above that it's not perfect and the tone of the overtone is what I think they're referring to (I appreciate a good ring), BUT! that's a damn fine wave with no visible dampening

There’s not a video out there with a snare where someone doesn’t say this. The snare can sound like dogshit but you’ll always find someone saying this
@PatrickManser12 жыл бұрын
jeez, how did you learn all this? looks and feels so natural. i'm just getting into odd time time signatures and i really like it
@bzg_etc Жыл бұрын
i watch this way too often because of how perfect this beat is its fucking crazy
@cjpark91124 жыл бұрын
I believe that to play odd signature times (which they cycle back weird and are most near to don't make sense) you have to create a chain, or a unique path that when the groove cycles back it makes sense, and you really did a great job, I've seen a lot of other drum videos playing 11/8 stuff but all sounded too off and I couldn't follow it, but this one is the one man, and that snare accent you alternate between a cycle to another really makes me trip nice!
@Allplussomeminus11 ай бұрын
11/8; the sexiest time signature. You made it sound natural with this beat in all it's unorthodoxy.

If 5/8 and 6/8 had a baby 😂 This is so groovy man, I first came across this video over 10 years ago while I was still at music college, every few years I remember and just have to scratch that itch, and god DAMN does that snare tone scratch it goooood

What on earth is going on in your head as you play this? I'm studying for a prog band that uses 11/8, 7/8 and 5/4 time signatures. It's tough enough keeping the basic timing up let alone throwing a goove in there. I can rock a 3/4 or a 4/4, and I'm starting to get a groove for 5/4 and slowly for 7/8... But 11/8, even breaking it down to 5 +6, still throws me. Obviously practice is key. But what else helps? Is there something you've heard or realised that unlocked something in your head that made 11/8 more doable?
@vmdp87903 жыл бұрын
you can try to write something more melodic over it to make it easier to do that since melodies are often easier to memorize
@Rhizzome Жыл бұрын
I do play but have never been properly trained, so this is definitely not ‘professional’ advice - but what worked for me was to count this as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…. and repeat that. As soon as I counted it as 6 then 5 then 6 then 5, it all seemed to click in my head and I was able to really play around with it. Hope that helps!
@probablylinguini7 ай бұрын
I believe that technically 11/8 should be subdivided into some combination of 3, 3, 3, and 2. The two can go anywhere in the chain but it should be in the same spot each time for consistency. For example ONE two three FOUR five six SEVEN eight NINE ten eleven and so on...

The 8 means that he's playing in 8th notes. 11/8 comes from playing 11 8th notes in one measure
