Don't give up. I left math for years too. Went to community college later as an adult, had a 4.0 GPA on all my classes: languages, history, humanities, anthropology, creative writing. Then I had to take math. No choice, if I wished to go on to university to get my BA. I had to start at very basic math, essentially remedial. I remembered almost nothing of what little I had ever learned. Did not do well. Had to actually REPEAT that basic class. Then took the next level of math. Had to repeat that, too. Then I was able to get to beginning algebra. Also took a class that was all word problems (that was actually kind of fun and worked better with my language-oriented brain). Then I took intermediate algebra. It was hard. I did everything I could do. I tapped out at parabolas, functions and logarithms. They were just too hard. I had gotten to the point where I could solve the quadratic equation and plot the slope of a line. That was it for me. But I got myself to the point where I could pass the university entrance exam and that was enough for me. My degree was not going to be a STEM degree... I ended up graduating cum laude with an overall 3.81 and that's not too bad for a full-time working adult over 30. Took me a long time but I reached my goal, and you can too. Take advantage of every resource available to help you. I had peer tutors, I used video tutorials, I met with teachers willing to give me a little extra attention. It was a struggle. I am not good at math but I learned that I wasn't as terrible as I'd always believed. Good luck, dear!

@@sakitoby1581 This is really inspiring to read, thank you for sharing your story! For me it is pretty opposite as I'm interested in STEM but languages stresses me out a ton... I'm starting to pick up my high school studying again after dropping out, and starting with maths as it's my favorite subject. I don't know you, but I feel so full of pride and happiness to read how you worked so hard and yet also realized where your realistic healthy boundaries were, and appreciated and celebrated the end result. Genuinely very inspirational, thank you for sharing :D I hope all goes well for you in the future!

Hi I am 27 years old. Almost 28 and I graduated High School 9 years ago. I was very bad at math, probably because I was never to interested in it. Today 09/20/2023 I am starting basic math and It doesn’t matter if it takes me 6 months or one year to learn this BUT I’m really looking forward to learn because I desperately need to pass the ASVAB TEST for the Army. I’m a single mom, I never considered myself good in school but that’s OVER. I believe I’m smart, I was just lazy. I can do this. Been working as a housekeeper for 6 years and I don’t want to continue with that type of work. I need a career before I hit my 30’s

24, going back to college for a Cybersecurity and Network Administration degree. I need math 😂 I moved around a lot as a kid, and switching states means the mathematical requirements aren't always the same between grades. I never learned division, and that made me believe forever that I'm bad at math. But I passed classes in high school, and the few I did take going to college the first time around! Watching this video for the first time is scary, I feel like I can't do it, but I know I have the math somewhere inside! Thank you for helping teach us adults and others who want to learn math, but honestly never did or forgot how.
