Thank you for doing these podcasts. I have learned a lot from you and your guests. What stood out to me in the parable of the Good Samaritan this time was the perspective of the Jewish people who passed him by. They had longs lists of things they were not allowed to do by commandment, even to the point of avoiding their own wives for about a week each month because they were considered unclean. It should be understandable to us that over time the commandments would have become distorted in the interplay with cultural beliefs and practices. In this reading, I saw our current church environment, where members openly avoid, taunt, and fear other members whose political alignments or lifestyles don't match what they believe is essential to living a covenant path life. The parable teaches us that we are to love and minister to everyone, without regard to who they are or what they believe. The great commandments are love.

As a mom of four young children, I just want to say thank you for helping me to learn and grow spiritually. I feel like I get to be Mary while doing all of Martha's busy, unending tasks by listening to you. That poem touched my heart. Thanks so much.

It was interesting to see the parable if the good Samaritan back-to-back with the story of Mary and Martha. For those of us already overwhelmed with those "lying in the road" we have been asked to help, it is important to apply the Lord's counsel to Martha in knowing how, when, and how much to do.

I love all of the insights. Thank you! Thank you all so much. I think one interesting thing to me that I have previously overlooked is the simple fact that the Samaritan most likely would not know this poor mistreated person. It is much easier for us to serve, to help, and to reach out to others when we know something about them, about their circumstances, anything about them. But the Samaritan probably didn't and wouldn't have. He would have known nothing of the person and what brought him to this state. Yet he cared for and loved him enough to ensure he was taken care of immediately and for the future. That is Christlike love. That is true charity.

Making appointments to schedule temple time when I became a mamber of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1965, the missionaries told us the day would come when people would be standing in line to get into the temple or to hear the gospel message????!!!! Look where we are. When you were explaining how Christ put the various priesthood leaders together. saying that his time was soon at hand. President Joseph Smith said the same thing to the original twelve apostles, that he would not be long upon the earth. Learning alongside you three today has brought much joy to my mind. Great instructions and explanations.

Luke 10, this scripture is so rich, deep with truth. Jesus is rejoicing in the Holy Spirit. We are provided with this great scripture to give us insight into Jesus the Christ. Jesus's suffering is imminent, but He sees joy in the Holy Spirit. People are plotting to kill Him, he has been ignored, mistreated, mocked, disrespected, judged in His ministry but stands in great joy. The joy that He receives is because of the power of the gospel. " Your names are recorded in heaven" He is speaking of the seventy disciples whose names have been written in heaven. He is rejoicing in eternity. They are all headed to heaven, Jesus realizes the sovereign plan of God is playing out right before His eyes and He is rejoicing exceedingly. We should all share in His joy, for all humbled souls who believe in the Jesus of the bible, they will gather together in higher places and praise Him for evermore. Jesus was mostly concerned about their names being recorded in heaven, He turned to the disciples and said privately," Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see".

This is one reason why I love this podcast: I always learn so, so much! I have been a member of the church my whole life and I never knew why the Quorum of the Seventy is called that, and I did not know the difference in the ministry between the Twelve and the Seventy. So cool! And I love that Krystal made the point that this demonstrates that the gospel is for everybody.

I love the story at the end of Luke 10...When the savior is there (in our COME FOLLOW ME study) we need to listen, when the Lord's servants are speaking (GENERAL CONFERENCE) we need to pay attention, when we commit to serve (various church callings) we need to seek the Spirit. There will be time for other things but also make good choices about what to do with time.

Sis. Pierce comment about how the parable of the Good Samaritan being a declaration of the Messiahship of Jesus alluded possibly to this source: "Early Christians saw the good Samaritan as symbolizing Christ Himself saving the fallen victim, wounded with sin..."The man who is going down is Adam. Jerusalem is pa radise, and Jericho is the world. The robbers are hostile powers or Satan. The priest is the Law, the Levite is the prophets, and the Samaritan is Christ. The wounds are disobedience, the beast is the Lord's body, the [inn}, which accepts all who wish to enter, is the Church.... The manager of the [inn] is the head of the Church (the prophet), to whom its care has been entrusted, And the fact that the Samaritan promises he will return represents the Savior's second coming." (Welch, "Good Samaritan," 40 from Thomas Valletta, "The New Testament Study Guide."

My daughter presented a powerpoint speech as part of her senior speech and debate competition, using that John Welch article as the source. It is visual and direct (and only 10minutes!), and helps a print article come to life. Hope it is helpful! -CG kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4XHqX6wq7FgqK8

I happened to think of the story of the loafs and fishes and I happened to wonder - if both sisters had sat down and listening - what would have been served & how? Did we get a clue from the feeding of the 5,000? Perhaps we may never know. Thank you for this wonderful lesson 😊❤

The parable of the Good Samaritan I have used to demonstrate the principles surrounding 'Ministering' within the church. Put the Ministering brother or sister, what do they do? First they saw a need, they weren't assigned necessarily but came along and saw the need. What did they do next? They went! They dropped what was going on in their life and came to the wounded. Once there they gave immediate 'first aid' pouring in oil or their love for the wounded. They then gave 'wine' or hope to refresh and boyup the down trodden. It is only after the immediate needs had been meet that they took the wounded man/neighbor/ward member to an 'inn' or perhaps to someone with more expertise in the deeper needs of the individual. They only at that time turn the care over and continue on their journey. However, they promise to come back and again offer to pay for the services provided. They were in fact stating they were going to stay engaged throughout the whole recovery process. And in my minds eye, what did they do when they left? It was only then that they return to their ward Elder's Quorum or Relief Society President to give a full accounting of what was happening and what was his/hers plan for continued support and asked for any assistance or insights from the larger communityof saints. Remember, they didn't first go to the president and tell them that there was a wounded member/neighbor and wait for an assignment, instead they saw the need and responded to it! Just another insight into this parable that I tried to live up to. Thanks for the great work you two are doing.

Sisters, the good Samaritan was a man and the man he helped was nigh unto death. Please don't feel guilty if you are alone and don't stop on the side of a highway. Many a bad man has lured good hearted women to their deaths this way. Help where and when you can safely. ...love and appreciate the show BTW!!!
