But if what you’re looking for are gay characters, not minding whether they are well developed or just there to fill the necessity of inclusion, then Strange World is a good movie to watch. I don’t mean to offend with my comment, so sorry if it seems rude :)

It's not that I'm against LGBTQ+ characters, I actually like how the community is starting to be represented, the problem is that some companies aren't looking for inclusion, they're just looking for approval, which I understand as they're trying to make money, but let's be honest, they're being hypocritical. Strange World is a movie full of inclusion from a company that only knowledges the community during pride month, that's why it feels forced, they wanted us to notice that they're including, but they don't actually care whether they're doing a good job or not, the fact that the main character is gay and likes one of his friends is not important for the plot at all (which other straight/gay relationships are), it could've been there without having to point it out, that's why it feels unnatural to me. For general inclusion, I would recommend Camp Cretaceous (as it was previously said), Star vs the Forces of Evil, She-ra, The Owl House, Helluva Boss, Lightyear, Bluey, Miraculous Ladybug, even My Little Pony, some of them aren't that obvious, but that's why it feels natural, they don't have to point it out for it to be there. (Some other options are Raya and the Last Dragon, Elemental, Encanto, Tangled: The series, Little Witch Academia, Pokemon, but I'm not sure if their LGBTQ+ characters are canon. Still, it's fun to ship them)

My theory is that a child *has* to be the one to fight Grom, because kids' fears are usually overblown and melodramatic, while a mature adult's worst fear would be genuinely dangerous.

To be fair I think the idea is that a child wouldn’t have as intense fears to fight back against. And a teenager’s fears would be more embarrassing, mortifying when you’re young but relatively harmless like “getting rejected by your crush” or “crying in front of a teacher you dislike” So it’s not like an adult couldn’t it’s just in theory easier if a child does it and then if they fuck it up an adult can take over…. Or at least that’s my theory for the in cannon reasoning.

I mean in Amity’s case it’s a lot more than just rejection. Luz is symbolic of every new thing in her life, because before they met she was miserable and lived a predetermined life under her mother. But losing Luz means losing this new rebellion, her new feelings, her old friend.

I love this episode and for a little context luz has ADHD she doesn't really always think things through and can struggle with concentration. This episode is amazing and was a big deal because some things about luz and amity were confirmed (amity's crush on Luz). This show was celebrated for its representation - multi-racial, disability and especially its LGBTQ+ representation!

So for a little context, Amity was introduced as her class's top student (she had a badge and everything), so when Principal Bump chose her as Grom Queen it was probably because he believed she would have the easiest time defeating it. As for why it's always a student, there's no canon explanation, but if we assume that Grom can remember previous encounters then it would probably be risky to have the same person face it twice. With Luz it took a while for Grom to find a fear that actually worked. A more skilled witch (like the top student) could probably have finished the fight in the time it took Grom to find Luz's real fear. There aren't that many staff at the school, so if they handled it they'd have to face Grom multiple times and, again assuming Grom remembers things, it would have a better idea on how to fight them each time they did. Now, it shouldn't be on the school to keep monsters in check in the first place, but they're kind of stuck with the job, and hey, they haven't lost yet, though Bump might reconsider letting volumteers take over in the future, considering how close it got this time.

This is a really good explanation! I also think that since the Boiling Isles (under imperial rule at least) has a powerful capitalist economy (meaning a teacher would certainly expect extra pay for going and fighting a nightmare monster) with a lot of state resources going to the military, pro coven events and propaganda, securing collections of powerful artifacts, and the police, it would make sense that there isn't anything in the budget for paying the staff to go and fight. But if a kid does it and it's seen as this big glorious event, nobody has to get paid a bunch to fight it, and if tickets to watch cost money then the school would actually make a large profit.

As for why the school handles it, Hexside handles it's own problems. I doubt the principal would let anyone not affiliated with the school deal with it.

And to add to this, the most logical reason Principle Bump was surprised that Luz lasted so long in the fight was because she is a human. Humans naturally cannot do magic, which is why she has to use the Glyphs to cast spells. On top of that, compared to the rest of the students who have been using magic since the day they were born, Luz has only been in the Demon Realm for several weeks to a few months. She started learning under Eda, but eventually got enrolled at Hexside to continue her studies.

I think the reason they don’t choose a faculty staff is because supposedly their fears might be a lot more dangerous since they’ve had a lot more time to be fostered, and this could be potentially too dangerous so they use a student who’s greatest fears are likely to be a lot more surface level and overcomeable. As to why bump picked Amity it’s likely since she’s one of the top students in the school so has the highest likelihood of being able to successfully take grom out. Bump’s actually a pretty good principal throughout the show so I doubt he’d pick a student he didn’t think could take it

Wow this was the Christmas present I never expected to get So you went into the whole the staff should do it thing, and I agree, but I have a theory on thier reasoning. The older you are the more horrors of the world you know about. Look at what luzs fears were. Then imagine an adults fears. With exceptions of course in traumatic circumstances a child's fears are the easiest to fight. Of course you can't send in a kindergartener that'd be ludacris. But a 14 year old? Old enough to have a fighting chance, young enough to fear things like people trapped in cats bodies...rather than horrific apocalypse senerios.

Enchanting Grom Fright has always been one of my favorite episodes of season 1. I vividly remember losing my shit when they danced and it was revealed that Amity actually wanted to ask Luz to go to Grom with her 😭💜 Edit: I highly recommend watching the entire show. I promise that it’s worth it 💕

Realistically speaking I feel like they probably don't actually let the kids die, not only because that's fucked up but also because if they did then Grom would've escaped already. They probably keep the teachers on standby in case they're needed (as for why the teachers don't just handle it every year, my guess would be that you can only face up against your greatest fears so many times before it starts to really fuck up your mental health (and as another comment pointed out, adults' greatest fears would usually be a lot heavier than a teenager's))

okay a few things: first of all, luz means well she is just easily distracted and has trouble fully thinking things through as well as being very optimistic. i think she may not realize the repercussions of fighting grom because of all those reasons but i don’t think listening is her problem. also, the monster that amity made was called an abomination which is a type of magic they can do where they make like monsters made out like slime.
