The Mathew V3 bow is one of Mathew's longest riser to axel to axel ratios they've ever offered - making the 31" option ideal for hunting the steep terrain of the West.
Erik syncs up with 2020 Vegas shoot winner, Kyle Douglas and they put together a solid custom accessory combo to compliment the bow and optimize it for bow hunting mule deer, antelope, and elk.
Kyle shares some awesome tips for setting your 2nd and 3rd axis, setting and tying in your peep, and how to properly hold your bow to eliminate torque.

Nah... can’t go wrong with either bow. but he should definitely get rid of that target sight before hunting season. Unless you’re supposed to be some kind of awesome...when the game of a lifetime steps out...the last thing I wanna be doing is letting down to readjust my pin and have to rush the shot or any of that nonsense. A Trophy ridge Hotwire is a great 3 pin sight leaving a nice wide open sight picture. Personally I got a Axcel Armortech on my bowtech. And my Mathews has the Rheotech. I’ve had several trophy ridge sights and they were great. React 5 and 4. I just don’t have them cuz they got sold with the bow. What I got now is excellent. That slider shit is for target. Everyone wants to sell shit and they’re willing to give you bad advice just to sell it, or just allow you to maintain a falsehood or a confidence in something you shdnt just as long as it sells.

@@pahuntnut ya know. Any of these guys using a slider... it’s possible that some of them have adopted or are familiar with traditional archery techniques. And maybe set the pin at 20 and maybe they practice at 30 and properly judging it from a 20 setting. Idk. That ranch fairy guy does not use a peep sight. Personally I want a peep sight but that guy don’t. And he kills lots of shit so. I just don’t know. But I don’t hear anyone really talking about this. I just see guys marketing these target sights like they’re the cats ass for hunting and don’t agree. Yeah I’d like having one pin. I can see better. But how much better? It’s really a non issue. A 3 pin sight is a perfect in the middle compromise if a guy is really that concerned on sight picture. Idk I’m not the arbitrator of all that’s holy and correct. But I do think I’m right on this slider sight thing.

Saw this and called #Douglasarchery #kyledouglas, ignorance is I had no idea who he was at the time. Sometimes God is really good to those with a feeble mind. Couple weeks later I knew who he was and he went through the same detail on his day off for me and...my #PSE. @@MuleyFreak thanks for the info. Sweet looking bow too by the way! I’m going with the same green riser and black limbs but orange string. You evidently like your HHA sight if you went with that on the new bow? I’m thinking of putting the Tetra on this bow. Thoughts on that?

13/16 is not always “outside center” I actually find that rarely to be the case. Depending on where the top hats are 13/16 could be pointing east or west from the aim string. If you want the shaft running parallel to the riser that measurement will ALWAYS vary depending on top hat orientation
@erikvanwoerkom1896
@erikvanwoerkom1896 3 жыл бұрын
Are you talking Mathews or just all bow manufacturers in general?
@jwild5360
@jwild5360 3 жыл бұрын
@@erikvanwoerkom1896 any bow that you move the aim string on with a shim or other method. Your moving the back of the arrow when shimming the cams. Bowtechs new bows same rules apply. Elites new bows same rules apply. Pse same rules apply. Having a yoke system is the closest you’ll get to not actually moving the aim string in the lateral tuning process when twisting yokes. Bottom line is there’s no majic number for running an arrow due north. Forget “center” you want the arrow to point due north of the aim string whether that’s 3/4 or 7/8. You could easily have 2 v3s with 2 different measurements running parallel to the riser.
@bmills231
@bmills231 3 жыл бұрын
The string should run straight down the bow, which is why shims and top hats are used. Center shot is a manufacturer spec to set the rest where is should line up with the string when properly tuned and timed. Center shot doesn't have to be exactly 13/16" or manufacturer spec, but they generally give a range of +- 1/16". In short, the info in the video is correct. The top hat system is designed specifically so you can align your string to center shot and hopefully don't have to move your rest out of center shot to tune.
@jwild5360
@jwild5360 3 жыл бұрын
@@bmills231 that is a mile off. The top hats do not allow the string to run down the “center” of the bow. As a matter fact theres not even a shim kit available that has 2 identical sizes on both sides of the cam therefore you can NEVER run these cams in the middle of the limbs. You are forced to run the cams to one side or the other of the bow due to limb deflections and due to the fact the cables are pulled to the side. I could go into much deeper detail but your not running the cams in the middle of the bow. It’s not possible with the current top hats. If they wanted to run the cams and string dead down the center of the bow there would be Zero top hats available. Just one set dead in the middle. Bows have induced torque due to the cable load on the riser that doesn’t allow the cams to sit dead in the middle which is why u won’t see a single bow shipped with the cams between the limbs evenly spaced. That’s Not even an option. A shoot through cable system with zero side load on the riser is the only way you’ll ever see cams in the middle of the limbs. And the center of the limbs would be the center of the bow/power stroke. All bows have factory induced side torque and lateral nock travel by design. which I’m sure you know. Knowing that should make it very clear that the “center” of the bow is changing during the draw cycle. And timing has absolutely zero effect on your lateral tune.
@bmills231
@bmills231 3 жыл бұрын
I may have miss explained what I was saying with the top hats and string alignment and agree with what you just said. My point was really that his info was saying 13/16" is a starting point. Im pretty sure factory specs on Mathews for center shot is +- 1/16" of that. Regardless of how I miss explained the top hats and string alignment you should be able to tune a mathews (or any bow with shims) using top hat system and staying within center shot specs. I stand by my original point that his info was correct. It's not like he said set it and forget it. You clearly know your way around a bow and I'm sure more than I do. Just seems like you're nitpicking what he was saying for no particular reason. Of all the bow builds on KZbin this dude has got one of the most thorough methods and great info. Even if there are certain things you or I would do different. Atleast it's not another bullshit setup and tune video. It's really refreshing to see a guy encouraging getting the absolute most you can from your setup, regardless if it's a hunting rig.
