Math your timeline is off. "I etched your name out, put Jigga on top". That's the shot. Nas was already a triple platinum artist. Vol 2 put Jay Z into super stardom. So Nas was actually responding to that and Jay Z calling himself Hova. You have to remember Biggie and Nas were on each others radar before big passed. Not JayZ. So i'd still say Jay started it. Doesn't matter now. Just attempting to let you know

Agree..Jay was still highly praising Nas on My Lifetime tracks Where I'm From & Sampled more if Nas voice on Rap Game like a Crack Game. Hardknock Life global commercial success is when Jay started feeling himself & thought he was top dog. Yeah Nas & Biggie dud throw those subliminal jabs @ each other. Nas even said it was "fun to hear Biggie's response but now lyrical competition is none" on We Will Survive off I Am Album

Idk why this came back up on my notifications but to help @MathHoffa out, Jay & Rocafella had issues and jealousy for Nas from the start. I was there and heard the music petty bts. I co-created The Dead Presidents track with Ski. I was in 1199 on a daily. I only learned through your show that Nas took half the publishing for DP as I was never given any credit or kept in the loop after the album was done. That was Dame & Ski MO all the way through the Blu Roc era. Thinking about it all now, it makes sense. Jay admired Nas but had an the bigger ego. He probably felt outmaneuvered by Nas and held the grudge. I used to hear all kinds “disses” when Nas would be mentioned and I’m talking circa 1996. Anyway, keep up the great work. Your lane is solidified. I can’t wait to see what’s next for us! COIN aka Mint God

Close but no cigar! Jay wanted Nas in his "Dead Presidents" video! Remember at tha end of that Video when U seen Big,Az,Jay,Ty Ty,etc...Nas was supposed to be there but he declined! And Jay felt some type of way! Go Listen to E - Money Bag "The Gospel" He speak on it in tha last verse! Nas always felt Jay wasn't on his Lyrical level. Who do U think were tha "Goodfellas" which was turning into "The Commission"?!?

@@supremeameen8970 So here's my take. Nas and BIG were cool but BIG switched up when he blew. BIG still wanted Nas on his album but I feel Nas didn't trust BIG. And since Jay was BIG's man he didn't trust him either. The Lox have said when BIG rhymes on a song with you he disses you. I feel Nas peeped that and kept his distance.

In July 1996, Nas who confirmed his song “The Message” includes shots at JAY-Z with "Lex with TV sets the minimum". Nas song "Black Girl Lost" was also about JayZ cheating with Nas girl. In Nov 1997, JAY-Z sampled Nas’ voice again without permission on "Rap Game/Crack Game". In 1997, Jay Z song "Where I'm From," took a shot at Nas by listing Nas last amongst the best, "Who’s the best MC’s, Biggie, Jay-Z, and Nas.” In August 1999, Memphis Bleek released a song “What You Think of That”, which sounded like Nas song "Nas Is Like". Memphis Bleek said, "I'mma ball till I fall what you think of that?" In Nov 1999, Nas responded to Memphis Bleek in “Nastradamus”, "You wanna ball till you fall? I can help you with that.” And NAS song "Come Get Me" (1999)...second verse was about Jay-Z..."you make hot songs but she know you steal from me". NAS is talking about JayZ sampling his voice twice. In Dec 2000, Memphis Bleek went at NAS in song 'My Mind Right". "Your lifestyle's written/So who you supposed to be, play your position"...and the song "Is that your chick"...which JayZ talks about sleeping with Nas baby mother Carmen. Nas also released “Is he H to the Izzo, M to the Izzo?” dissing JayZ "Izzo (H.O.V.A.) released Aug 2001.
