Being Dutch, and having followed MVDP interviews in Dutch for years now, Mathieu himself placed his win in Nove Mesto in 2009 above the win in Amstel Gold in the same year. Also he claimed that Nino Schurter has been a bigger rival to him than Wout. His biggest goal is still the Olympics. That said, I too get goosebumps from the Wout rivalry, and the win at Amstel Gold.

I agree - beating Nino and winning his first XCO World Cup was a big deal. The majority of road cycling (and CX fans) don't realise how tough XCO is; it took him a while before he finally won. They know and watch Wout, so know how good he is - they know very little about Nino.

I am quite amazed about that statements, but here we can have our own thoughts and for an outsider it is pretty obvious that Wout vs Mathieu is a rivalry that is unseen in any cycling discipline. Nino is very good at MTB, Mathieu and Tom are good at road, cyclocross and MTB so they are far more versatile and Wout is too. SO personally I respect these three more than Nino or anyone else who can solely focus on one discipline. I personally rate hs win in the Ronde van Vlaanderen quite a bit higher than Amstel Gold, a race I do not really like at all (and I am Dutch).

Your channel is very informative, crisp to the topic! Requesting you to make a analytical video on which team is performing poor and why, also it should contain whether the team needs a new rider or no etc

The juniors WC race in Kokzijde is on youtube, unfotionally for many it's with Dutch(Flemish) commentary. It's still a classic to watch, MvdP destroys himself in the first lap, then Wout goes but he is not the Belgium favorite, so he gets a bit screwed over by his Belgium teammates, this gives Mathieu a chance to come back for a great last lap showdown. This race was really the start of their rivalry, which only exists when they are on their bike. Ahhh the joy they bring, I am a huge fan of both of them.

Fantastic video, as was the Wout edition! The 2019 edition of de Ronde was perhaps a preview of the incredible Amstel victory that year - where he fought back from crashes and mechanicals to still nearly get on the podium. For as great as he still is, April 2019 might have been MvdPeak.

I see what you did there ... condensing 23 (I counted, and counted conservatively) moments into 10 ... well-played

It was not the Amstel Gold Race because it was Dutch, but in the way he won it which was so unbelievable impressive ...😊

I agree that Amstel should be number 1, but not because he is Dutch but more because of the way he won it with the crazy comeback. I'm Dutch btw and don't really care that much about Amstel, I prefer Flanders/Roubaix.
