In this 1987 episode of Mathnet, George and Kate investigate reports of stolen trucks full of dirt. Although all the trucks have been returned, the dirt is gone. They suspect that $1,000,000 worth of stolen money was buried in the dirt. The money was stolen during the Finks Armored Car Robbery, pulled off by Merle Fish, who was convicted of the crime and sentenced to 30 years in state prison. The money was never recovered. Unfortunately, before anyone can get the chance to talk to Fish, the warden informs George that he had died in prison almost a week ago. They soon suspect that Fish's accomplice, Norman Mailbag, who wrote a book about the robbery, is responsible for the stolen dirt.

I remember my fifth grade teacher used to roll out the TV/VCR on wheels and play this show for us when everyone got a 90 or above on our math tests. Thank you Mrs. Coldwell for being such a cool teacher.

One of my teachers (can't remember which grade) did that too. Our tests were on Thursday, and if everybody got a 90 or better, we got to watch Mathnet on Friday.

This was one of THE BEST shows on TV during the week. I used to watch Square One, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego, and 321 Contact every afternoon during the Summer.

This is the show that I contribute to getting me into crime shows. What's interesting about it is that they actually somewhat do use real techniques used by police. Like mathematically timing how long it takes to get from one point to another to see if there's any holes in a suspect's alibi.

Loved MATHNET growing up, Los Angeles had that quirkiness, writing and synth score…. Once they went to New York, production improved: better writing, humor and cast… and that jazzy New York score was a nice touch
