Hello, Just like to say I have had my copy of the 28mm P XCD lens for a number of months now. I simply love it. I have the 30mm xcd lens and have had that one for a number of years and I had to think hard (Not really) before byeing it. But as with all my XCD lenses it just works extremely well. I am using it on both X1D and X2D cameras and the results are just stunning.
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
Thanks John. The 28P is also the more modern lens - does not mean that older or vintage lenses are not good of course. But the 28P clearly is the next step in Hasselblad's lens line-up for X-cameras. Ideal for street and landscape. I will finally after more than a year get the new 90V coming month, really looking forward to shoot portraits with this tele lens.

Thank you, that was very informative. It really does look like a very good lens. It's light and reasonably-priced, too. Not surprising that it's sold out everywhere. I'm mostly interested in full-body portraits, though, so I'm scared of how wide 22mm is. I know it's possible to make great portraits with such a lens, but it's probably very difficult.

@Jeff-wb3hh4 ай бұрын
You never talked about corner sharpness. How is the corner sharpness of the 28P lens. The MTFs of the 28P look really bad at the corners compared to the XCD 30mm f/3.5. I'm a landscape photographer, so corner sharpness is extremely important to me. Can you tell us how the corner sharpness is of the 28P lens?
@gdv174 Жыл бұрын
Have the 28p now for about a month and have used it during my stay in Spain. It's a very good wide angle lens for indeed landscape and street photography. It's indeed sharp and detailed in it's rendering and low deformation. And it focuses indeed very fast and accurate. But... There is a but... I do find that the 45P lens gives more sharpness and details than the 28P. Now if cource the 45P has less wide angle but it's still a moderate wide angle lens. So in case i do not need the extreme wide angle if the 28P i prefer to change to the 45P because of that. That being said it's a very good lens and i have used it a lot.

Thanks for another great review. You mentioned that the X2D has face autofocus. I can’t seem to find that in the version 2.01 firmware. Was that a beta firmware reference. 😊 I’d love to see that feature.
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind feedback. I addressed phase detection, not face detection. The Hasselblad X2D still has to catch up on autofocus features, currently no continuous tracking and no face detection but, at least, phase detection which works reasonably well. Phase detection is superior to contrast detection when it comes to autofocus.

Have been watching all the hasselblad videos since I’m in the market for a new camera. I know this is an impossible question but I’m looking for either a used X1D II or a M10. The M10 body costs as much as the X1D+45 f4 p but as we all know the Leica is so small and compact especially when dealing with other lenses. Image wise I know the X1D wins but I’m wondering if the “fun” in shooting an M will win out in the end. I don’t do street photography but maybe with the M I will since I’ll have a camera I can easily carry? A third option is to go with a Fuji 50R or 50s II as those are both in the same price range as the Hasselblad for bodies and I can adapt lenses if I wish without having to deal with electronic shutter only if I did that with the X1D.
@FF-ig5jw Жыл бұрын
Don't buy the X1D II. Had it and it's way too slow
@314LAАй бұрын
If you don't shoot with the M system, don't buy it. The whole charm of the M is the optics. Especially the "fast" optics. No HB optics will give you this picture (maybe only 80/1.9 is close, but it is huge, old and slow and also very difficult to focus on)

Hi, how do you compare 44x33 sensor size with full frame 36x24 so that you recive 0.79 crop factor? How does calculation look like?
@piast_kolodziej Жыл бұрын
I was calculating it like this: 645 format has 0.62 crop factor and the smaller sensors has 1.3 crop factor so I was multiplying 0.62 by 1.3 and it gives me 0.806. Is this correct? I wonder how does your calculations look like.

Some people complain that the lenses feels a bit "wobbly" and loose on the x2d.. is this true?
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
The lens mount on the X2D allows for a bit of play with all XCD lenses. At least that's true for my two X2D camera bodies we purchased back then for the studio. Does not disturb me but is something you hear a lot about in the Web. I would not call it "wobbly", but the lenses definitely do not sit as firmly on the camera body as it used to be the case for the X1DII.

Thanks for the video - 2 seconds with that sharpness is amazing - I have to practice my technique! I recently did a photo workshop in NYC using the 28P and 55v and got wonderful results, but to be totally honest would have rather lugged around my 35-75mm so I wouldn't have had to deal with switching lenses as much as I did. My Q3 has been gathering dust recently as good as it is, and I am thinking about whether I should sell it (I prefer the wider FOV of the 28P), or if I would eventually regret it since the Q3 is somewhat smaller/lighter, has face detect, and has a few other points in it's favor (but I don't do video). Do you have any thoughts on the Q3 vs the 28P/X2D combo? Thanks again.
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
I would definitely keep the Q3, its one of my favourite cameras! There should not be dust on the sensor, you should send it to Leica for pro-bono cleaning and checking the weather sealing.

Dear Math, thanks for the informative video. I am a Leica user and I am considering to get myself an X2D. I am very much enthralled by my APO M Summicron 35mm for its clarity and 3D-pop. Do you think if XCD lenses could provide a similar level of clarity and 3D-pop effect? Thank you.
@reddychan9819 Жыл бұрын
only in the middle, the M35 doesn't cover the whole 4433. If you want to use M lenses under 50mm then you should stick with Leica M or wait for SL3.
@Sniper5354 Жыл бұрын
@@reddychan9819 Thank you for your advice. How do XCD lenses compare to APO M lenses in terms of image quality?
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
@@Sniper5354 Its hard to compare these lenses because they are totally different. Hasselblad lenses on the X2D when shot wide open also produce very nice background blurriness but the Apo-lenses from Leica get you a unique look which I also appreciate a lot. And please be careful when you use Leica-M lenses on Hasselblad-X cameras with an adapter because often the image circle of Leica-M lenses (constructured for a 36x24mm sensor size) will not be large enough to fully cover the 44x33mm sensor of the X2D.
@Sniper5354 Жыл бұрын
@@mathphotographer Thank you so much! I may perhaps get a 38mm XCD first. It seems its clarity may not be as good as an M APO, but Hasselblad's color science is simply breathtaking. We cannot have one single thing that is all-rounded.
