I think it must be that x and y depends on z so independent vector is z so the dimension is 1

In question 5, Det(A) is (a/2 )* (a/2) - (-a/2)* (a/2) which equals a²/2

In question 3 why can't the (1,1) is the zero vector because see according to given addition and subtraction if we take (1,1) + (1,2) = (1,2) so v + 0 = v

X^2 = -Y^2, square term can't be negative. So I can't be independent. As for x^2 + y^2 to be zero, both needed, think x=0 and y =0, x solely 0 can make equation zero. I hope you got it Btw i appreciate you for asking this question, i tried to answer most of the question but this question left there
