About the game:
Shadow of the Colossus is a 2005 action-adventure game developed by Japan Studio and Team Ico, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. It takes place in a fantasy setting and follows Wander, a young man who enters an isolated and abandoned region of the realm seeking the power to revive a girl named Mono. The player assumes the role of Wander as he embarks on a mission that might entail Mono's resurrection: to locate and destroy the colossi, sixteen massive beings spread across the forbidden land, which the protagonist traverses by horseback and on foot.

44:45 there is a non-profit fan made project called Beyond the Forbidden Lands under development. They are remaking the game to include nine of the scrapped colossi. So we can finally fight the lizard, boar, monkey, griffin, devil, worm, phoenix, wyvern, and the *spider* . They have done impressive work for a voluntary project. Still I wish we lived in the universe where Fumito Ueda was able to make all 48 colossi.

48 was very early in development, there never were concret idears for 48, but 24 was the number they wanted to make for the longest time. lizard and worm are surprising we kinda have those already ( 8 Salamander and 10 Sandworm)

@@Komory yeah they scrapped the lizard because we already have one. But Worm was kinda different. He was way bigger than Dirge and also he was stationary like the final colossus. Dirge is more like a snake tbh

Fun fact: this game was supposed to have about 8 more Colossi, making it much longer than the finished version. But unfortunately, due to the mechanics of those Colossi being too difficult to properly implement into the game, they had to be cut. Those Colossi included a devil, a spider, a monkey, and a phoenix. I would recommend looking them up to see what could have been

The only reason people decided to get on the hype of this game is because PewDiePie play the remaster of this one but not ICO. @@SourStrawberrys Wholeheartedly agree. Some things are better left untouched to not ruin the legacy they created. This game is a masterpiece in and of itself, a sequel would ruin this game no matter how good and amazing it could be, cuz there will be less mystery around it. The whole Shadow of the Colossus appeal is based around it's mysterious aura and the fact you have to explore everything yourself.

Ah yes! Good ol phalanx, my favorite boss of all time. Then there the bull, I usually feel sad killing the colossus but this one made my blood boil, I took pleasure in seeing the blood spill out of him, dirge( the sandy worm snake thingy is scary as hell, and the underwater one was pretty good too, glad you’re enjoying this game! So close to 30k!

The lion colossus is probably my favorite just for the arena you fight it in. And yeah the bull gives me conniptions. Funny how the two small colossi are my favorite and least favorite.

Number 13 is pretty much everyone's favourite and it is spectacular. My second favourite is the final colossus. There's a lot of emotions going on there and the music for it is fantastic.

We struggled for months to beat this game, sharing our info and helping each other to complete the game. This was before we had easy access to the internet to just look up how to beat it.

I played this game back in the day when it first came out and, even though I cussed and raged and spit at the tv a bunch, I truly was in awe the entire time. Such an amazing game. I honestly can’t believe a remaster is all we’ve gotten.

Dirge finds you And then commence the most difficult battle in the game IMO No crazy tactics, no gimmicks, just a colossi that would be somewhat easy if you didn't also have to fight the camera and the horse trying to do what it wants when it wants while you look back trying to aim arrows

The last time I finished this game was on PS3, so might give the remaster also a go. I can't really say what's my favorite colossus is (probably the third one with the "sword-arm" or the bird at the lake), but I do love the scenic area of the "turtle colossus" (12th) and I would love to use photo mode with that place.

Fun fact. Phalanx is actually the biggest Colossi in the entire game, and as such, the cutscene of its death is the longest. Also, super excited for you to fight Cenobia in the next episode. It's sad to see this this series end, but it was an absolute blast. Just a heads up about the ending. It might seem a bit confusing, but I think it's one of the most interesting endings to a game. I'm glad you are expanding your horizons and experimenting with different kinds of games. Your channel has come a long way, and it just keeps getting better with each new upload. Keep doing what makes you happy, man.

The sand snake colossi is probably the most challenging one for me so far. The "aim for the eye" hint from Dormin almost destroyed me. (I see you didn't need this hint at all!) Not only I had to learn how to properly ride & steer horsey right there in the cave, now I needed to aim for the eye!? That required a second brain, which I've grown after like 2 hours.

Wander and Dormin do change over the game (Mono might too), it's just really difficult to pick up on if you aren't aware of it. You might see it more easily if you compare starting Wander to current Wander.

I have fond memories of playing this game as a kid, the feeling of isolation and mystery in this beautiful and somber landscape is just something else. In addition the inverse kinematics, animations, grappling, physics, rag dolling etc. were quite something at the time, even now.

I love how you're settling into the vibe and really appreciating this game for what it is. It seems like the further you go, the more you are enjoying yourself! I remember getting stunlocked to death by that bull one. The knocked-down recovery is torturous. Just putting this into the aether, I remember you mentioning you hadn't played a lot of classic Zelda. I'd freaking love to watch you go through Ocarina, Majora's Mask, Windwaker, etc.

1:06:58 The initial plan for this game was to have 48 colossi, which was later cut down to 24, and then cut down again to 16. There is a fan game in the works to make the final 8 cut colossi playable.

I also remember how frustrating it was to stab the bull's weakpoint, but it turns out that grabbing the front of his back was the problem. If you grab closer to its lower back like you're riding a horse, it's more stable (get it? 🙃) and you don't get shaken around as much.

Knealing heals you twice as fast. Original plan was for 48 colossi. Agro does not need steering if she's on a path/bridge/tunnel. She will auto follow it. She only needs steering in wide open spaces.

I'm sorry if someone already said this but I'd recommend playing on hard mode when you're done. It makes all the colossi more interesting to figure out on account of them having more weak points than on normal.

hey, just to let you know that this game was initially supposed to have 32 colossus but was reduced to 16 due to lack of time for development and errors, but there is a lot of concept art and what the battle of these excluded colossus would be like, a group from here from Brazil is remaking these colossus excluded in a fan game on this channel: Douglas BC SJ

It's been so hype seeing you make it through this one. Some of the Colossi are a bit eh but when this game gets it right it's untouchable It's also convinced me that you can look past PS2 era jank when the game itself is something really special, so I wanted to recommend Silent Hill 2 again. The controls are dusty, but the story and atmosphere and music are still best in class. Would love to see you check it out!

The mechanic of riding alongside the colossus and jumping to climb up on the flying one is like something straight out of Indiana Jones, and I don't recall a lot of games that have a moment like that that made my teenage boy mind go "woah, this is like a movie" when I first played it. Although I don't think anything tops that time I first went from playing Zombies Ate My Neighbors on my friend's SNES to finally getting my own N64 one Christmas as a boy and playing Super Mario 64. Jumping into the first painting in my first 3 dimensional game might have been too much for my brain because it's still one of my fondest memories as a kid.

I was really into desert environments in video games back in the day because it was a time when large play spaces were still incredibly novel. The fight against Phalanx pretty much blew my mind. I also remember really loving the desert in the first PS Monster Hunter, the hammerhead sand shark monsters in that area were incredibly fun to fight.

Mati, you can absolutely try to climb to the bridge from the opening cutscene, but I believe you won't be able to do it on your first play through (you won't have enough stamina.

Oh yeah, I think back in the day I had to complete the game three times to get enough stamina! But it is a LOT faster once you've figured out how to defeat all the colossi...

This is one of my all time favorite games. If you love horses and great stories and game play…Red Dead Redemption 2… this and Red dead in my top 5 all time favorites…Ghost of Tsushima is beautiful and fun. Last Guardian fun and touching but very glitchy. All Fromsoft as well..but for different game play red dead and ghost are great games…have fun with this it is one of a kind

You also have "Praey for the gods" which is a spiritual successor to Shadow that you could play afterwards. But then again "Ico" is also an awesome game from the same developers. But that one is sadly only available on ps2 and 3..
