Matilda was my idol as a kid. I found that book when I was six and I've read it cover to cover like twenty times. She was literally everything I ever wanted to be. I'm so glad I grew up reading that book. It left such a genuinely strong impression on me and it has such a special place in my heart. She was so cool, she didn't take anybody's shit, and from a tender age, neither did I. matilda was more of a feminist icon and role model for me than literally every disney princess and I'll stand by that for the rest of my life.

I think about The Merchant of Venice when I hear this song, and my thoughts are "What if it's against the law to try to fix it", "What if you're so naive that you believe in the law, despite it being unfair to you", and "Newsflash, he's Jewish, it's against the law for him to defend himself!" He did try to change it, but he did it by the law, he thought the law would treat him equally, but he learned two lessons that day. The lessons are "Never put faith in the law of your oppressors", and from their perspective, "Silly Jew, Justice is for Christians!" He lost everything, including his faith. Ever since I have read the story, I always have felt sorry for Shylock, considering that he's the least villainous character in the story. Antonio and the others have provoked him. Gee I wonder why he got angry.

Jack and Jill, Went up the hill, To fetch a pail of water, So they say, Their subsequent fall was inevitable, They never stood a chance, They were written that way, Innocent victims of their story Like Romeo and Juliet, Twas written the stars before they even met, That love and fate and a touch of stupidity, Would rob them of their hope of living happily, The endings are often a little bit gory, I wonder why they didn’t just change their story, We’re told we have to do what we are told but surely, Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty, Just because you find that life’s not fair it, Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it, If you always take it on the chin and wear it, Nothing will change, Even if you’re little you can do a lot you, Mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you, If you sit around and let them get on top you, Might as well be saying, You think that it’s ok, And that’s not right, Cinderella, In the cellar, Didn’t have to do much as far as I could tell, Her godmother was two-thirds fairy, Suddenly her lot seemed a lot less scary, But what if you haven’t got a fairy to fix it, Sometimes you have to make a little bit of mischief Just because you find that life’s not fair it, Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it, If you always take it on the chin and wear it, Nothing will change, Even if you’re little you can do a lot you, Mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you, If you sit around and let them get on top you, Might as well be saying, You think that it’s ok, And that’s not right, And if it’s not right, You have to put it right, In the slip of a bolt, There’s a tiny revolt, The seeds of a war in the creak of a floorboard, A storm can begin, With a flap of a wing, The tiniest mite packs the mightiest sting, Everyday, Starts with the tick of a clock, All escapes, Start with a click of a lock, If you’re stuck in you’re story, And want to get out, You don’t have to cry, You don’t have to shout, Cause’ even if you’re little you can do a lot you, Mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you, If you sit around and let them get on top you, Won’t change a thing, Just because you find that life’s not fair it, Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it, If you always take it on the chin and wear it, Might as well be saying, You think that its ok, And that’s not right, And if it’s not right, You have to put it right, But nobody is gonna put it right for me, Nobody but me is gonna change my story, Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.

“The endings are often a little bit gory! I wonder why they didn’t just change their story…” *I USUALLY THINK THAT LITERALLY EVERYTIME I SEE GORE IN A MOVIE WHEN I’M WATCHING WITH MY FAMILY OH MY GOSH, I’M CONVINCED THAT THEY CAN READ MY MIND NOW*
