This movie truly tested my patience. It can be used as a torture method. 24 hours a day on a loop.

*sigh* I was having so much fun with this episode and then Tawny has to go with the "oh, all you White people look the same" thing and it's just accepted as totally cool and not racist. If Paul were talking about The Color Purple and said "oh, I just checked out because I can't tell all these Black ladies apart" he would be justifiably excoriated. (I hope it's obvious that I'm not comparing The Color Purple to this shitfest, or suggesting Paul would say or think anything like that). The point is it shouldn't be okay for anyone to just say "pff--y'all are the same" without some kind of challenge. Tell an Irishman he's the same as an Englander. Tell a Pakistani they're the same as an Indian. Tell a Hutu they're the same as a Tutsi. Shit, tell a Protestant they're the same as a Catholic! If we actually care about racism, we have to call it out. Being a Black woman doesn't give you a reparations pass into ignorance. That kind of attitude is racist and entitled and should be called out. EDIT: Oh, how about that...the host of "Yo, Is This Racist" doesn't know when she's being racist. And it's totally cool for her to say "not all Brown people look alike" etc. Take a look at yourself, Tawny. Shameful.

I was having so much fun with this episode, and then I decided to be offended by a joke.

I see where you're coming from, but that's kind of the reason why I raise it as an issue -- it's 'just a joke' is a pretty common thing for a person to say when they've said something despicable. I'm 100% all for the notion that anything and everything should be joked about and I wasn't actually offended by the content of what Tawny said (I'm not a White American, I could give a fuck). What bothers me is the double-standard at play. As said, if Paul said a similar thing about Black people, he'd probably catch a ton of shit for it. It bothers me all the more that someone who literally profits off of talking about racism can say something like that and it just gets a pass. Context matters. When Jason makes a 9/11 joke it's pretty clear he's making a joke. It struck me that Tawny wasn't saying something outrageous to get a laugh, she was just saying something that she believes. I get that targeting White folks as the butt of a joke gets more leeway on account of White folks have been the colonizers and oppressors throughout a lot of history. But I don't think we should be so flippant about racism when, if the roles were reversed, there would be an issue. It has the stink of Republicans bitching about First Amendment rights and then banning books --- it's hypocritical, that's what pissed me off, not the fact that, yeah, a bunch of old White guys wearing glasses are kinda hard to tell apart.@@johnschwartz1641

You can’t be racist against white people, you can be prejudiced but not racist. It’s not racist to say you confused two different white men. Do you need people to announce that they’re joking before they say something?
@johnschwartz16419 ай бұрын
@@meredithdurfy2337 of course you can be racist against white people. That whole argument is just bizarre and undermines anti-racism. On the other hand, sometimes a joke is just a joke.

This idiocy is why I made a comment in the fist place, and I reckon it's why Tawny feels comfortable making such a statement. Guess what, idiot? Racism can happen against ANY race. It's judging someone based on their race, plain and simple. That whole 'systemic racism can only be perpetrated by Whites because they are the ones who always did it, bling, bling, blah, blah' bullshit is just an excuse. Do you know what part of racism is? BEING PREJUDICED. Christ's sake. Obviously systemic racism is a real thing and something that should be addressed (urgently). But if you honestly think that a Black person lumping all White people into the same category isn't racist, you are literally an idiot. What about Koreans and Black folks in mid-80s Los Angeles? Who's racist in that whole thing? I'll reference again Pakistanis and Indians? Who's the racist? Try to establish a career in Japan and tell me about how racism against White people isn't a thing. Racism against White people exists. Non-White folks pretending it doesn't with bullshit about how they can't be racist fuels the problem. Which in turn leads to a bunch of khaki-wearing, tiki-torch-wielding idiots marching and killing folks. Your statement is part of the problem. @@meredithdurfy2337
