After numerous failed attempts with forgettable movies, the gang finally settles in for a robot double feature of Robot Jox and R.O.T.O.R. This episode was shot on a dark and stormy night, and much alcohol was consumed in order to properly come to terms with the madness that is R.O.T.O.R.

Just found out Robot Jox was apparently written by one of my favourite authors, Joe Haldeman, hailed by the likes of Heinlein and receiving many awards for science fiction writing. His comment on the movie: "to me it's as if I'd had a child who started out well and then sustained brain damage".

In a lot of ways it feels like he would go back to the general premise with _Forever Peace_. Which would win both the Hugo and Nebula when it came out. Apparently he and Gordon had disagreements during the writing process, so that would make some sense out of it. Either of them probably could have made an interesting film alone but together we're stuck with something that's worse due to the conflict. All wrapped up in the typical Charles Band cheapness. Even if it was Empire's most expensive film. That's what's so interesting about it. All of them have produced great work before, but combined it was just a complete failure.

class of 99 one in two are on DVD. Take your VHS tape of and burn it like a sane person and go and get the DVD. Why would anybody buy something on VHS when they can get it on DVD and avoid all those hassles? I literally have a treasure trove of forgotten cinema that to my knowledge has yet to be released on DVD. I happen to be one of those disturbing people who likes bad science fiction and you actually found a couple movies that I haven't seen yet or heard of. At first I thought you said the movie was called cyber trucker but when I realized you said cyber tracker i vaguely remembered the film,. perversions of science and spicy setae were done for HBO. I highly recommend you download those series from one website or another and watch them pretty sure they're not available on physical media. Need to duck tape you guys to some chairs and force you to watch a few movies like space truckers ;) Mistry science theater 3000 and no robot puppets you'll be turned to mental Jell-O in no time with the right selection of movies

ROTOR is pure magic. I routinely force people to watch it. It's like an accidental satire/parody, that clearly clocked under so that made an excessively long intro, and was written by someone who knew nothing about the subject material. I can't believe all the "alloy" dialogue wasn't brought up in this video. I also love that the office robot is the only character who's acting ability comes across as non-robotically organic. They guy who played him wouldn't even let them credit him. It's hard to tell how much of this movie is intentionally the way it is.

I loved Robot Jox as a kid. AS A KID! There's a sequel that I was excited to find, again, as a kid, called Robot Wars. It's not even remotely as enjoyable as Robot Jox, as it's probably the first time I remember feeling ripped off by a movie. Robot Wars is literally over an hour of painfully slow build up with bad "action" scenes and exposition, then ends with maybe 2 minutes of actual giant robots fighting. Really, it's one of the most one-sided fights I remember ever seeing, with the lower-tech antique robot just ripping apart the supposedly high-tech indestructible antagonist robot almost immediately. I remember looking at my brother after watching it and saying "What the fuck was that?!?" loud enough that I got in trouble with my mom.

If you have a chance to get the shout factory bluray release of Robot Jox definitely do so, there's an excellent making of featurette that really shows just how much work went into the stop motion and miniature effects. While yes, dated today, they're still very impressive.

Thanx for bringing "Robojox" to my attention. The parts you show had a real good soundtrack in it. So I searched and found out that Frederic Talgorn made the music and it's availible to buy ... and I bought it, cause its a classic 80s B-movie filmscore and I love it ... thanx

It occurs to me that those 50 movie DVD packs are now just what make up most streaming services now. Only at least with the DVD pack you knew you weren't getting anything good whereas now all the bad movies are mixed together with the couple of good ones

R.O.T.O.R. looks and sounds like a movie that was crafted geniusly to be hilariously bad. Those extended establishing shots with the lame punchline sound hilarious, I have to see it.

ROTOR is absolutely worth watching, it's hilariously bad. There are so many continuity errors it's ridiculous, but somehow it manages to transcend its own awfulness and be something genuinely enjoyable.

I'm being completely honest, this is one of the best youtube videos I've ever seen. These shitty movies are terrible and the way you destroyed them and talked about them made it great. Also, I would also destroy a movie that I didn't get to watch because it malfunctioned. Great video, I'm sharing it, liking it, and adding it to my favorites! Thanks guys.

I saw Robot Jox before I came across redlettermedia, and I felt really anxious because it's a schlock-fest that's really enjoyable and gives you a good feeling in my opinion. So I wasn't sure what I'd think of what these guys would say about it. I'm glad that they say that it's a B-movie, NOT a "bad movie". It's really fun.

I was watching the Robot Jox segment in this episode there was a logo behind the Russian character and I was like “ wait that looks really familiar like it’s from a Japanese beer logo..” so I looked up Sapporo Beer and lo and behold it’s a striking resemblance. So In future, Sapporo beer will become its own superpower and build giant mech suits. Me gusta.

I used to watch Robot Jox off and on as a kid and the reason the fights are worth sitting through all the drama is because....of the weight of the robots! The robot fights are epic, and they are WEIGHTY, a gaming term that definitely applies to this film. The massive robots have very much mass and are technically by controlled and mastered through skill and finesse not super speed dump ammo and pray and spray. Its worth a watch.

R.O.T.O.R. is one of my favorite bad movies and has been for the last 3-4 years. Captain Coldyron is one of the weakest protagonists ever and I don't understand why a lesbian bodybuilder was brought in so late in the film as the muscle.

42:30 ROTOR blows up because the rope is supposed to be that "primer cord explosive" the main character was showing off at the beginning of the movie. (You didn't mention it in the summary, but it was set up. One of the few set up/payoff sequences in the film.)

Robot Jox could've been done pitch perfectly if it had been an anime. A mecha pilot accidentally killing a bunch of civilians and being crippled with guilt and not wanting to fight and being called a coward would fit right into the Gundam franchise. Especially back then.
