Some of this is my interpretation through analyzing some of Akeda. But to all the doubters and naysayers: Matisyahu has evolved spiritually. He wrote a public letter about it actually. Basically strict Judaism was a tool he used because he didn't know himself and felt he couldn't resist the worldly temptations and stay true on his path to God. He no longer feels that he needs all that to keep on on his path, in fact, it is probably holding him back from growing as a human being now. He has not sold out at all. Akeda is a great CD dripping with spirituality. He is just on a different walk of his path now and his messages aren't exactly the same. If you really analyze Broken Car you'll see how he feels about (I believe) the religious system (a human system) being broken just like human beings are broken and their relationship with God is broken. Perspective guys. He's 35 and has a different perspective now from his life experience. What I love about Matisyahu is he openly puts his spiritual life journey on display for everyone to learn from.

These things usually happen when what should be a relationship with God becomes a religion. Unfortunately it is very difficult to resist this world through our strength and our mind. This is why the Messiah had to suffer for us.

Any artist knows that your art cannot stay the same as you change. Matisyahu isn't the same beard having, underground artist anymore. But, he is still Matisyahu. And, his music still has great meaning. His art has just changed since he first came out (like other artists.) Whether you think it changed for the worse or the better, though, is your opinion. Matisyahu is still Matisyahu. Making awesome music, in my opinion. Keep jammin MM Lots of love from the East Coast xx

there is no meaning to the lines "Dancing on tables With my hands in the air" or "Smoked more trees then a forest fire till that ish got tired now I let the ish retire gettin higher then a mountain climber lower then a lawn mower chopping down the cypher circle" he has turned into a complete sell out i thought Jerusalem was his right hand yet he does everything to defy it.... from a disappointed fan i am now going to delete all the music i have of his as I've lost all respect for him...

damian337557 well im pretty sure hes singing about freedom, and also, how he used to smoke weed when he was younger, but he *let the ish retire*; he doesn't smoke anymore... his lyrics make perfect sense to me but maybe its because i actually look into matisyahu i don't only listen to his tunes

I must say I a fan from the beginning and I was sucked in by the raw, fresh sound that only Matisyahu could call his own. 10 years later and now we have a product of corporate America with music that sounds like anybody else and no longer raw and fresh. Heck, after 10 years I would probably give in to the money as well. Sad but true...sometimes money is stronger than the heart. It was a good musical ride while it lasted though...we must admit!

As artists grow and explore themselves, they need the freedom and support of their fans (new and old) to do so. I don't think you're a sellout, nor do I think you have lost your religion. Like the great masters of the world, you have begun to burn away the chaff and see things in a less crystallized way - just as the late Rabbi Kook predicted as the effect of atheism on the religious of the world.

Getting back towards what made him great. I don't know what people are talking about this being a "sell out track". I personally don't see much of any potential for this track to sell big time like his reggae stuff did. I like it though. Good stuff. My dream album for him though would be to get in the studio with some Dirty Heads / Rebelution type guys and just throw down over a reggae beat like he used to.
