Wow...what a remarkable talent...a beautiful name...an artist that maintained the best of country music when industry CEO's were dumbing down the artistry and feeling of the lyrics promoting a few drugstore cowboys over true poets with beautiful voices that touched the soul.

Thanks for posting this! This performance is from Autumn 1991 on TNN's "Nashville Now" and I think it's better than the studio recording! The instrumentation is superb & I've never seen Matraca perform better live! The whole performance is so playful & you can tell everyone was having a blast. I love that Matraca changed the lyric from "Frank Taylor" to "Ralph Emery" to poke fun at the host of the show...he always mispronounced her name and I thought was quite rude to her.

Wow. Just saw Matraca on Delbert McClinton's cruise and she's changed just a little bit...at least in presentation. Still great voice, writing, and that same sense of humor. Thanks for the post. We outside of Nashville and these shows miss so much talent.

also a terrific songwriter. Patty Loveless got several hits via Matraca's words. Berg's own singing is effective too, tho a bit breathless.

Is one of the backup singers Jimmy Dale Gilmore? And who's the midget on the piano?
