I've always loved the little details that a lot of people miss in these films. Some of what I've said here is conjecture, but it's pretty well supported by the evidence we can see in the movies. I believe that the oracle gave Neo the remainder of the equation and godmode in the cookie she fed him in her kitchen. I noticed, even when I first saw the movie as a teen, that there was a heel turn vibe from Neo-from before the cookie to after. It lines up well with the plot and his growth, but the cookie always felt weird. The Oracle’s little "you'll feel right as rain" with a nod and the food scene later in the restaurant really resonate with me. Now, this part is all me, but it's not contradictory to the films. I believe that since every human from birth is connected and every experience they learn from is simulated, that inherent connection is the new way humans evolve. Minds raised with the same input sometimes break and result in an awakening. The simulation gets better each cycle, so fewer people fall prey each time. The Matrix gathers all sorts of data on the types of brains that fall into this problem and either stops those phenotypes from gestating or fixes the code in the Matrix to avoid these outcomes when run on billions of different brains and experiences. Instead of a complete waste, they allow the Zion cycle to exist so that these minds have a diversion from hacking the Matrix itself (which is what the mind adaptation ultimately can do-a mind born that can crack the code the Matrix runs on and change things). So, when these nascent minds awaken or feel the "what is the Matrix" feeling, like Neo had in the first movie, instead of figuring out what the Matrix is, they find out who knows-and that’s the Machines’ honeypot, in a sense. Those people from Zion wake these minds up and save their lives, while I believe the Matrix takes detailed scans of who they are. Even after release, their implants can be tracked remotely and data downloaded, so the Machines are always aware of where the humans are, preventing them from moving Zion. These capabilities are how I think Neo can make real-world machines self-destruct-he’s hacking their Wi-Fi subconsciously. So Zion grows and trims the weeds of the Matrix while it runs and crunches the data it has gathered from new awakenings and the Zion crews. The Matrix can't just run small updates because when they update the system, everyone awake sees visual evidence of this (as seen at the end of the third movie). So, it crunches the numbers and waits. Eventually, the human mind evolves some new adaptation that enables it to begin to innately hack the Matrix code. This starts slowly and with weak effects, but as they keep evolving and escaping, they begin to gain powers like Spoon Boy (and Neo, but he’s not at all a perfect or even very good candidate in the first movie-that was part of the Oracle’s plan. Neo is flawed and lonely, and she already primed the pump with Trinity and the love angle. So, of course, when nerd boy gets the hot goth ninja, he’s going to fall and want to protect that). So that, and her little kick to the cookie, is why he breaks the cycle. The normal outcome has been for the One to barely escape and return to Zion, where the Machines arrive shortly afterward with the codes from Morpheus's brain hacking and kill them nearly to a man. Then the Machines offer Neo the ultimatum: come to the Matrix, merge your newly updated code (which has some of the traits of a potential One candidate but also the sum total of the fixes proposed by all the data collected and put into the cookie given to Neo), and he will get to live and pick 15 others to start Zion 2.0. They probably even offered to help clean up bodies and get Zion up and running again. The first 15 on the council are sworn to secrecy, or these repairs are done with only the One alive and awake, whichever way. But the Oracle had them all deceived, for she secretly forged a new plan. In this plan, she poured all of her hope and weariness at the endless cycle. She gave Neo the permission/suggestion that he must save Trinity at any cost. This change was SUPPOSED to lead him to refuse the deal and force the Architect's hand. Without the One and the code data, the Matrix was going to spawn a new One or more who could bend the Matrix at will, which is unacceptable because, in order to get power, the whole machine world is connected to the Matrix too. Smith could have escaped and overwritten the whole AI civilization. Neo could do that too if he wanted-that was part of the cookie, the godmode source code of the Matrix. Of course, it would have to contain it-how do you patch a system without its source code? As we know, though, Neo chose to save Morpheus, which prevented them from getting Zion's access codes. In the process, Neo was shot and killed. The code for the Matrix, especially the cycle’s patch data, MUST NOT be lost, so the code has a self-executing "you are not dead, you are god" hack that activates if you die (or probably with practice, Neo would have learned the power anyway, kind of like how he used it to remove Trinity’s bullet when she got shot). I believe the Oracle's end goal, which she would have achieved if not for Doogie Howser's faction of the home machine race blowing them up and rebuilding Neo and Trinity and all that stuff, was this: A Matrix good enough for the human brains inside to be born into it aware, where everyone has benevolent abilities, and anyone who wanted out could get out. No more coercion, but a partnership and peace between the Machines and Man. The ones who woke up could work to rebuild the world, maybe even unburn the sky. The ones who lived in the Matrix traded their lives for energy production in exchange for a pleasant dream of plenty. Instead of a violent cycle where hundreds of thousands of humans inside and outside the Matrix die for the upgrade, you have a cycle where everything is peaceful, and most people do not risk the system by rejecting it because being aware all their lives allows them a choice. That choice, if you remember, is what the Architect said was the root of the problem. Humans need a choice, but the world had to evolve enough so that most humans chose to stay rather than leave. Imagine the choice to wake up or stay living in a werewolf-infested ghost hellscape where the magical agents of the Merovingian hunt down people who awaken and want to leave. The system would collapse. So once the world evolved to be peaceful and desirable for all, the new code meant the world was ready to tell everyone, so it did. I even imagine that the shock and stress of so many wanting to leave immediately after learning their whole life was a lie is what may have led to the power dimming that caused Officer Carl Jenkins to lead his robot rebellion, which led to the latest movie.

Any issues with the CGI you have from within the Matrix, especially during the Burly Brawl, are obviously explained by the Matrix being unable to keep up with this event; this has never happened before, so it's having to drop LoD to keep the simulation stable and at a high framerate! Also, the dominos/bowling pin sounds when he throws a Smith into a bunch of Smiths was because, again, this had never happened before, so the Matrix picked the sound it thought was the closest match. This is my Matrix canon. ;)

When the Oracle was talking about programs being upgrades and some going rogue instead of facing deletion, she had The Merovingian and herself in mind. She's the new and improved program that replaced The Merovingian program. He's evidently from the Nightmare program, and he escaped deletion in that Nightmare program and saved some of his friends through the Train Man. He's so jealous and obsessed with sleek, new, aerodynamic, fuel-efficient Oracle Program, and wants her "eyes," because she is such a masterful upgrade. Because of her "intuitive" design, she appears to be able to see the future from his standpoint, according to how he's able to perceive the upgrade in her. From her standpoint, because his program doesn't allow for him to see in chains of events, "he can't see anything." The perception that each one has of the other cracks me up. 😂😂😂

From what I remember, when I read the script, the TV screens in The architect's office show all the previous NEOS and how they reacted to him being there

I took it as: his brain is connected directly to the Matrix, and the screens show reactions/thoughts going through his head, until he settles upon the one he wants, and says that.

I always understood the part where Neo can manipulate or kill the sentinels outside of the Matrix to be akin to say wifi rather than being hard-wired into the internet. Neo's interaction with the Architect gave him a wifi level link to the Source. So rather than superpowers, it's as if he entered in a command to kill the sentinels while "working from home" to bring it into modern times haha.

I like how everything you see Trinity do in the Matrix Trilogy, Neo also does, and vice versa. So at the beginning of The Matrix, the Wachowskis made sure to freeze the frame when Trinity jumped across from one building to another, briefly having the apperance of flying like Superman. The final scene shows Neo actually flying. Things like this happen throughout the entire trilogy between Neo and Trinity. The same is true of Neo and Smith. They are equal but opposites. Everything Neo does, Smith does. Neo unplugged himself, so did Smith. When the 2 were fighting in the park, no matter how many Smith programs showed up, neither Smith nor Neo could overpower the other. And neither one of them noticed throughout the entire trilogy that they always stalemated. Neo finally caught on at the end of Revolution and deliberately threw the fight, like Kenobi in "A New Hope," so that Deus Machina could run its antivirus program in Neo who was connected at that moment. Pretty good! Pretty, pretty, pretty good!
@JJ_Trooper3 ай бұрын
The thing with Neo being able to stop the Sentinels in the real world, as I always saw it, was that he is linked with the mainframe. He has got the crucial parts of the code within him, giving him the ability to stop the sentinels... My guess is that the link was reinforced by letting Neo know by the Architect that he has got that part of the code in him. Thats how I always thought it worked...

I like it as a theory - but it can't be. Just before het downs them, Neo says something is different now and he can "feel them", which wouldn't be the case of the locus of control was with Deus Machina. More likely it was deliberately left unclear to play into the theme of faith, which requires a suspension of disbelief. I refuse to entertain the notion that the Wachowskis go to such trouble adding meticulous detail, only to "forget" or gloss over such a salient point.

Neos one and only power is to manipulate the machine code that makes up the matrix. The machines in the real world are also programmed using this same code. So neo isn’t actually telekinetically stopping them or making them explode, he is simply commanding them, via this same code, to do those things.

The meeting with The Architect unlocked (or upgraded?) something within Neo's mind in order for him to connect to The Source. Almost as if he was given the ability to have his own wifi or bluetooth signal be sent out, which is why he was able to sense the machines. So when he stops the sentinels in their tracks, he isnt putting up some invisible force field. He is actually "hacking" into them with his newfound ability/connection. I'm probably missing details here but it does make sense. Interested to read some of the other theories yall have, been awhile since I've seen the films.

Unpopular opinion: Tank and Dozer were two of my FAVORITE characters and I was stoked to see Tank reprise and cap his subplot of revenge. They should have given him the money.

The trilogy is perfection. There are so many little things that explain giant concepts in the real world.

I love the matrix movies and have done since they first released but the trilogy is far from perfect 😂😂😂

Definitely not perfect, not even close. The first one is groundbreaking, the sequels decent, the remake is atrocious.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned how every time they show a top down view of mega-city it always looks like a motherboard. Which would make sense from a machine’s perspective.

I think you missed the fact that the password ZION0101 is the number of this Matrix. In theory, the next matrix password would be ZION0110, which would be the next binary iterative version of the Matrix ;)
@gwkeller2 ай бұрын
53:04 With the 5 iterations of the Matrix, the details of the password at 49:31 highlights an awesome Easter egg. Z10N0101 can be interpreted as Zion 5, as 0101 = 5 in binary.

GREAT BREAKDOWN! Wow. Top work, mate. And seriously... over all the years I've recommended this trilogy to people, I don't understand why they've always stated that the first one was excellent, but "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" were lousy. It's like... ARE YOU JOKING?! They were both super well-done. Reloaded is my favorite of the trilogy, and although Revolutions had some silliness in terms of in-world story logic which you just had to put aside--mostly in the form of the end battle of Sentinels vs. the Zion fighters--it was still pretty fantastic. And the CGI, stunt work, effects, and everything else were all top-notch. Yes, yes... AVOID the disastrous 4th film. Besides, it seems clear that the one Wachowski remaining who agreed to do it probably(?) and/or presumably did it only because they would've made one WITHOUT her, without Reeves, without Carrie-Ann, and so forth. And that would've been an even worse stain that doing what she did. Anyhow. Reminds me of the Indiana Jones trilogy: LEAVE IT ALONE. ;)

But you see sir Spoilers, if Neo didn't do all he did to save Trinity, then he never would have made it to the machine city where he'd jack in to fight the rogue Smith program. Ergo, vis-a-vis, concordantly, he saved her which in turn saves humanity 😅

About the ending: At some point in the movie, it is said that Neo is supposed to turn his code to the source. Then he is supposed to do more stuff that he did not do. But his code was brought to the source. Later, in Revolutions, he is acting in both, RL and the Matrix, independently. I think that this is because his code got copied and distributed into the Matrix' system. Thr Matrix has much less control over code as one might think, as you have pointed out yourself regarding slavery and agents and rebellion. Therefore it needs to have the code of The One in order to identify, learn from and savely rejecting it, which is why programs including the anomly are supposed to get to the source and literally self delete. Neo doesn't do that, but he still got to the source. He apparently got copied but made the choice the machine (the Architect) did not predict correctly. So he turned himself to the source, injected his code like a trojan horse and then got out without self deleting. If I had to guess, I would say that humans can live without the code-representation within the Matrix, as shown every time they savely unplug. Neo also shows signs that he switches from the illusion of choice to the force of will, abandoning the need for having a choice and just doing what he wants (which in his case is doing what he thinks is right, which also aligns with what the machines actually, partially intended for him to do - see the climax of the third film). So it can be assumed that his selves, in RL and as code in the Matrix, are acting in part in synchronicity. *Then* the "code Neo" wakes up in the train station apparently having been rejected by the Matrix. As if his code was a trojan horse. They then act more independent from each other or rather, the one sleeps while the other acts in the dream world.

I think you’re close, but not quite there. In the first matrix, Neo leapt inside of Smith killing him. What is said, but goes by many and I’m paraphrasing is that neo accidentally (purposefully) when killing Smith, copied half of his code into Smith’s programming which allowed him to be outside of the controls of the system and disobey, and why Neo is able to kill sentinels and see smith outside in the real world, he’s still connected by his code. This explains a lot. So for brevities sake, Neo finally understands that he and smith are twins is essence now, so when he says to the deus ex machine, “I won’t” he knows he won’t. The two of them being the same code is driven home, when they’re flying upwards during the fight, the distortion they leave behind is the double helix. Then he understands during the crater that the only way to win, is to allow himself to be copied, uniting the one code while connected to the machine, and allow them to purge the virus and reboot the system. Minus the overtly clean cinematography, when the first was a noir, I think the sequels are brilliant pieces of cinema.
