I had a job which included writing a synopsis for the Matrix so i got to watch it before general release. From the first scene with Trinity it felt groundbreaking and different to other action movies of the 90's. I was surprised how small the publicity was and how little was known about the movie which in hindsight probably helped to create it's cult following and made it special. Oh Paul Ibiza?

25:05 interesting note about the music in the BDSm club; when Trinity introduces herself as Trinity, the music switches immediately from Rob Zombie to Mindfields by The Prodigy and Neo starts off with wonderment but as the conversation continues he gets more cagey and scared as the lyrics of the song go in the background: "This is dangerous Open up your head filled with shell shock This is dangerous I walk through mindfields, I watch your head rot" I think that's perfect sound mixing and the perfect use of that song and those lyrics in that setting for that scene. Genius

Fun behind the scenes story: The kid who played Spoon Boy was scared to get his head shaved, so Keanu Reeves comforted him and sat with him throughout. You missed the best line by Neo’s boss. He says “you believe that you are special. That somehow the rules do not apply to you. Obviously you are mistaken”. Some stuff about Neo's name that often gets missed: Neo's full name (with moniker) is Thomas A. "Neo" Anderson. As mentioned in the video, "Anderson" means "son of man", and "Neo" is an anagram of "one". However not mentioned is that the name "Neo" also means "new", "recent", "revived". Therefore "Neo" and "Anderson" put together could be meant to imply that he is "the new son of man" or "the revived son of man", alluding to the Second Coming of Christ. Similarly the name "Thomas" means "twin" or "someone who looks like another", so "Thomas Anderson" means "the twin of the son of man". Normally this could be interpreted as his name meaning "one who is fashioned in the image of Christ", but in this case it is likely further alluding to the idea that he is the second coming of the messiah. Incidentally, his middle name is never given throughout the franchise.
@SuperSuperman19765 ай бұрын
That's one hell of a break down.
@Godofdragons0045 ай бұрын
@@SuperSuperman1976 Thanks friend. I was thinking about it more and there's more ways that you can interpret his name when you consider the lore perspective. We know from the sequels that the Matrix runs on a cycle, wherein the Matrix goes online, eventually a human "wakes up", that messianic figure then founds a human settlement somewhere below the Earth's crust and wages a war against the machines, a second messianic figure arises and destabilizes the Matrix, and then the machines tear the whole thing down and start over. From this perspective we can infer that Neo is not the Second Coming of Christ, but is in fact the "second coming" of the first awakened human in a particular cycle. It gives his name a bit of a double triple quadruple whatever meaning.
@AC-hj9tv5 ай бұрын
The A stands for Alfred

The Thomas part of his name is to represent Doubting Thomas. Neo struggles with the doubt of being The One, and it makes the scene where Smith calls him Mr. Anderson and he says emphatically that his name is Neo, possibly signifying that he's beginning to shed that doubt.
@ChaoticPinky2 ай бұрын
I think Thomas in this context could have more meaning also, as Thomas was the 12th deciple of jesus. Famous for doubting jesus resurrection. Thomas Could refer to the inital self doubt he feels that he is Neo.

Good video. Here are a few things about "The Matrix." The window washers are the Wachowskis. Good catch about "Cypher" meaning "zero," but since Neo represented Christ in the movie, I thought "Cypher" was a shortened "Lucifer." In the matrix, Smith referred to Cypher as "Reagan," an actor later elected president. One of the funniest things in the movie was when Neo was literally fighting Smith with one hand behind his back which is a colloquialism for an easy fight. Excuse any repeats. I typed this as I was watching.

Back in the day me and a couple friends of mine, we were obsessed with The Matrix movies, especially the first 2. After we saw the second movie we started talking about different Theories about what was really happening. We theorized that the reason Agent Smith was able to take over the guy and Neo was able to stop the machines in the “real world “ was that the real world was actually a secondary Matrix made to let people that slipped out of the main program to believe they were free. We also theorized that the Matrix was built by an alliance of humans and machines as a way to allow humans to survive until the world could support life again. Like maybe near the end of the world the machines feeling pity agreed with the humans to end the war and create the Matrix as a way to save humanity. But over time the system became corrupted or the original purpose was lost.

Well done. I probably saw 3 or 4 deep dives on the Matrix and this was still entertaining and illuminating. Or maybe I'm just stuck in a loop of watching youtube essays on the same topics... ... but jokes on the machines! I pay youtube premium so get no ads, and even skip the in-video ads.

I would just like to say I re-watch the Animatrix every year and it's so underrated. Also, the latest Matrix movie was such a shame. They were perfectly setup to do something revolving around VR and they goofed for some frame rate skip nonsense
@heavyspoilers5 ай бұрын
Yeah Animatrix is the only actual good anime tie in I feel. The stuff they did for the dark knight was solid but Animatrix was head and shoulders above it.

53:59 I also think it is possible that the Oracle put somethin in the cookie she gave to Neo to eat. As in the later movie has shown by merovingian that, it's possible to code into food that effect people who ate it. That cookie might be the thing that kick start Neo transformation, or may be even gave some power to him

🚨🚨🚨 ATTENTION 🚨🚨🚨 Details you've missed : 1. Most of the crew members names in the triology are names of computer parts and computer related, either hardware or software, like Link, Switch, Mouse, Cipher, Apoc(same sound as EPOCH a software term) and so on. 2. Neo's door no. 101 is reference to the 101 status code is a transitional response that signals the server's willingness to switch to a different application-level protocol. 3. Oracle asked Neo to accept and eat the cookie like when a user request a server for resources he/she has to accept cookies 😂

I remember seeing this when it came out in '99 I was 17 and my dad took my sister and I to see it. The theater's soundsystem was cranked up INCREDIBLY loud. Louder than anything I've heard before or since. The lobby gunbattle scene almost hurt my ears, but I didn't care. No movie has made me so exicted and pumped up since. I think I had a smile the entire time I watched it. One of the best movie going experiences ever.

The matrix inspired me to write a fanfic where I combine the characters and timeline of both Ghost in the Shell and Akira where the characters join together to fight against a declining future and an external threat. Where Motoko is very much like trinity and Tetsuo has learned to control his rage and returns like a Neo type being.

I was 21 when this came out, went to see it in the theater with 3 other friends, the beginning was wow this is interesting, when the matrix was revealed there was a shock over the audience and everyone was completely immersed in the movie. Standing ovation in the theater once over and everyone was talking about it. Truly a remarkable movie, the story was awesome, acting was excellent. Not many movies like this.

Cypher was *not* talking to the Agents at the beginning. The Agents were interested in capturing Morpheus, and they were surprised when the Lieutenant told them that the target was a "little girl". Both Cypher and the Agents were expecting Morpheus to be on duty, which is why Cypher exclaimed, "You weren't supposed to relieve me."

56:50 I've always thought that this shot was the most unique in the whole movie in terms of composition. The color pallet is off the charts. Nowhere else do we see such warm colors as when she exits the sewer. Yet no one ever picks up on it. Love that shot for some reason. Not sure it has meaning, I just like its esthetics.

46:35 - Also in Cipher's explanation of the screens of code, we hear him say a line completely wrong! Neo asks if he always looks at the Matrix as code. Cipher says that you have to. "The image translators work *for* the Construct Program; but there's too much information in the Matrix." By putting the emPHAsis on the wrong sylLABle, the line fails. He should have said, "The image translators work for the CONstruct Program, but..." In other words, they work for *this,* but they can't work for that.
