Hot Rats One of my favourite albums of all time , it was 1970 and I was standing at the bus stop at 8 o clock in a Saturday morning I was 17 and feeling very happy with myself because I was aware my future as a composer and musician was assured , I had this music running through my head, complete and entire , all the riffs the wah wahs the horn sections I was a frikin genius , it was only a bit later in the morning as the dope and booze haze cleared away that I realised I was rerunning Hot Rats , Doh! There goes the career. I had ‘were only in it for the money’, freak out and Mothermania but Hot Ratz was a whole new departure of musical confection from FZ , all those other albums were quirky songs zipps and farts which I quite liked but nothing comparatively accessibly musical compared to HR I noticed the cover photo of Christine Frka had her in a different pose , in my uk copy she’s just looking over the wall like a ‘chad’ . I somehow have two copies don’t know how that happened , I could have saved Matt a trip to LA , I’m amazed I still have one , in those heady days we used to take records to parties , get mashed up then manage to get them home again, scratches and booze soakings were just war wounds, I don’t remember that there was a lot of thieving went on but that’s probably why I’ve got two now , probably Matts
