Matt Downie on the NC500 | An Ultra Cycling Film

The NC500 route in the Scottish Highlands has quickly become an ultra cycling icon. Over 500 miles of the toughest terrain, paired with some of the worst weather the UK has to offer means this a route for the brave.
Most spend days cycling the route, taking in the stunning views and local sights; Matt Downie wanted to do it in little more than a day...
The former Scottish time trial champion and his team set out to break the record set by ultra cycling legend, Mark Beaumont, in 2022.
This is that story.

What is it with the NC500? Large parts of the route are horrible for cycling ( though some are fantastic) If you're going to ride 500 Scottish miles, choose a better route. Mark's route is an improvement on the original NC500, but still not the best possible 500 in Scotland.
