What kind of auditions do you get in a park? Sounds dubious
@donaloflynn5 жыл бұрын
Sounds really dubious. I hope "audition" isn't a euphemism! It reminds me of this quote from Stephen Fry from an episode of the BBC Radio 4 panel game Just A Minute: "There's a very sweet story of Alan Bennett who was walking in the Heath, taking notes, thinking, you know, composing his plays and so on. And someone came up to him and said 'have you got a light?' And he said 'no I don't smoke'. And the fellow went 'oh okay' and looked at him and walked away. And then Alan suddenly realised he'd been propositioned so he called after him 'but thank you!'"

Yup, it comes from the curtain being opened each time for continued applause, operated by a leg sidestage. The idea is that the audience will be clapping for so long, they'll have to open the curtains for an extra bow so many times that you'll break the leg. I heard a french way to say break a leg is 'merde', because horses and carriages used to wait for theatre patrons to leave. If they were clapping for a long time, the horses would be waiting for longer, and there would be more merde on the street when it's all over :)

I had a Polaroid Instamatic camera that sounds very similar to the one Tom described, also given to me for my birthday, back when digital cameras weren't a thing. I used mine more than he did, though, because I became the official photographer for family events, so I could get my parents to pay for the film. I discovered fairly early on that the shutter button is actually two buttons in one: One enables the flash, and one actually triggers the shutter. So, you *can* take a picture without the flash by just using the back half of the button.

The camera shop I go to will develop colour film for $4. Takes a little longer than an hour, but I usually get it back the next day. But that's dev only, and then I scan it myself. Black and white is even cheaper, because I get it in bulk, so it's $3 a roll, ($60 for 100 feet; 36 exposures is about 5 feet) and I develop it myself.
@davidboden54865 жыл бұрын
random tip if anyone stilll uses a disposable camera - they are just 35mm film inside , you can crack them open and get the finished film out and its usually cheaper to process than the disposable rate was ( at least it used to be when my brothers were photo techs)

If you wanted a better instant camera for your money (and this would be great for Tom bc i feel the same way about instant film), then you needed to get the fujifilm instax sq 10 (or 20 depending how fancy you wanna go). It is a hybrid camera, meaning that you can take photos and save them for when you really want to print them. It has memory, so you can save them to your laptop, and also print multiple copies for your mates. Its pretty cool. You guys should check it out. Also good luck, James.

Oh, I'm not sure if Matt ran into them in his research, but they also make digital cameras with dyesub printers built-in. So you get the Polaroid experience, but you get to choose which ones to actually print. Roughly the same price point as what he picked up.
