Loved Liza's ad-read for solo stove on her wonderful podcast Significant Others. In the ad-read she says her husband is always hogging the solo stove to roast marshmallows. Knowing full well Conan's disdain for such things. Clearly it's a scripted ad-read but knowing how untrue it was is hilarious.

You can improve on the smore, and still make it on the campfire. I make smore pie in the woods, grab a pan, crumble Graham crackers and ghee and mold into shape for the crust, place baby marshmallows, cover with chocolate, then place a larger pan over it, place over glowing camp fire coals, and place coals on top as well to heat from both sides. Wait about 3-4 minutes, uncover, cut and serve. It's melty, cooked to perfection Campfire Smores Pie.

I think most people don't like the s'mores by itself, the food item, but rather fun time they had around the fire while eating them. just like Conan said, they loved being part of a group of friend having a great time during a warm summer (or winter) night and s'mores was just what they ate. had they been roasting chestnuts over the fire or grilled sausages they'd have the same fond memories of those food items.

I’ve always felt it was more about making the perfect golden brown marshmallow and not necessarily the end product. It’s still good, but it’s better to feel like you made it yourself (this coming from someone who isn’t patient enough to bake or cook much).

I hope Conan appreciates how the people who work for him do not just toady up to him and say things they think he wants to hear. A lot of other creators could have done so much better if their employees felt they could speak their minds. That said, he's completely correct about s'mores. They are too sweet, and they are a nightmare to eat while trying to keep clean (not many camp sites have running water to wash up with after). You're just left with a sticky mess out in the middle of the woods.
@tim72
@tim72 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, s’mores are not even that great, it’s just the fact that you make them that’s cool. As a kid it’s just a super sugary heart attack so it’s good, but as you get older it becomes more about making the perfect marshmallow (for me at least). Getting that perfect golden brown crisp around the outside with a nice and melty inside, it’s just great. Plus you get an okay snack at the end.

S'mores are a wonderful treat for kids. They are fun to make and sweet. Every child I know loves S'mores, so we make them for the children. Adults with a child's heart also love them. Conan hates them because his heart is shriveled and old like a dried up canned ham.

Honestly sounds like he makes them with crap ingredients hahaha Conan, Ill make you some S’mores you love! FRESH graham crackers, high quality milk chocolate (big chunks that you place by the fire to warm up, or chuck in the microwave to soften), Slow roasted marshmallow-THE KEY IS: wrap the melty marshmallow with your tongs/stick around the milk chocolate part to keep the melted chocolate in.This is key. Also, wet naps!

S'mores are definitely graded on a curve. You went camping, you're miles from the store, all you thought to bring was marshmallows, graham crackers, and mediocre chocolate. There's no freezer for ice cream, there's no oven for cake or brownies or cookies, and I sincerely doubt there's any baked alaskas while camping. But then you have the fun experience of getting your marshmallow as good as you can get it and judging the results of your own efforts. It's half dessert, half-work-experience.

I agree with Conan... Almost nobody eats smores outside of a campfire setting which tells you all you need to know. If smores were so good we would eat them all the time. It's the memory of the campfire with friends and family that we appreciate when we think about smores, not the smore itself.
@stone_pilot
@stone_pilot 2 жыл бұрын
WHAT? No no no. I’ve never heard such blasphemy. People don’t go out of their way to make dessert in general. I haven’t made brownies, cookies, cake, etc. in years. YEARS! But they’re all delicious and every once in awhile I’ll buy them. The s’more requires extra steps and you can’t buy a good s’more at the store. It also has way more specific ingredients. When do you buy graham crackers or Hershey’s chocolate except to make s’mores? I love s’mores but I’m way too lazy and I know it’s unhealthy so why bother?

S’Mores in general are wholly underwhelming and too messy for their underwhelmingness. People who wore union suits probably found them to be awesome because it wasn’t squirrel soup or whatever. That said, during the days of Covid homeschool house arrest, my then first grade son and I developed “‘Rona S’Mores” which we enjoyed every Friday to celebrate another week survived. These are RITZ crackers, Nutella, Peanut Butter, and Marshmallow Fluff. To celebrate the end of that school year we turned that into a pie - RITZ crust with whipped fluff/peanut butter and whipped fluff/Nutella filling…

Given that I happily eat Graham crackers as a snack, and just as happily do the same with flaccid, raw marshmallows, I will defend the smore to the absolute death. That said, I'm fine just eating the marshmallow after it's been in the fire. Adding the Graham cracker and chocolate is just gilding the lily.

I remember my parents showing me to how make one around a fire and having fun with the process. It brought us together and it brought us outdoors.
