Matt is one of the nicest most Genuine people out there. I did a lesson with him in 2019 before they played in town, he spend an extra 45-60 min with us answering questions. He LOVES teaching, and is a fantastic teacher. this is awesome, thanks Nate!

My drumming life completely changed the first time I ever heard Matt play.

Yeah seriously. I saw that very first YT vid back in 2009 and was immediately blown away 😂😂

I have taken so much of my philosophy on drumming from Matt, to the point that people used to watch me play and say I would look like him when I played. His perception on bodily harmonics, energy expenditure and BEING REAL on the kit are such important concepts, but he focuses on having his own voice. Such a solid dude

21:23 so helpful talking about the body as independent from the 4 limbs. Thanks!

I love Matt’s playing, love to watch his movements as example of good ways to play. Also love Nate, 80/20. But this interview felt a bit like two super technical drummers with tons of detailed knowledge and it kind of stayed philosophical and high level in nature. I’d love to hear Matt and Nate debate micro time. I did for example enjoy the “how many times per second can you hit a china?”, discussion, that was example of the technical stuff I hoped to hear more from. From someone that just re-listened to Iowa a bunch of times to analyse the crap out of Joey Jordisons cymbal playing. :-)
