They'll be good one day, but that's not what we were looking for. We don't want to be a stepping stone. We want the guy that's learned his hard lessons elsewhere and comes here ready. Instead they're going to be bad for us and food elsewhere. I knew as soon as I heard it that it was a bad idea signing guys to those roles. Especially when some of them have never called a regular season play call.

It wasn't just Kirk. Something is going on with the o-line, too. Last week, Lindstrom and Bijan tripped McGary. In this game, the o-line was either getting pushed into Kirk or the Broncos were just going around them plus the two bad snaps. And Neuzil has been starting for awhile now. The run game was not effective either. The receivers need to figure out how to get separation from grabby defenders especially when flags are not thrown.

Penix isn't better. Read the reports from OTAs and training camp. Kirk was far more accurate while Penix was having some difficulties.

As a Falcons fan, I’m not fully ready to pull the plug on Kirk but this is now multiple games where he’s gone without a TD and has had to be benched twice within the span of a month. That just simply cannot happen with a $180M veteran QB. If he continues to play this badly, he has to be sat.

@ yes but in both of those games he was absolutely terrible. Matt Ryan never had the excuse of “Well, we played a really good defense so I just couldn’t do anything.” I can only think of two instances over Matt’s entire career where he was blanked and had a terrible game without a TD: 2015 @ Carolina and the 2011 NFC Wild Card game against NYG. I think that Carolina game was one of the only games he was ever taken out because we were getting ran out of the building. It’s happened to Kirk twice within the span of a month. There’s no excuse for that when it comes to a player of his caliber and making the money he makes. Matt was perennially in the top 5 sacked and pressured QB’s every year of his career, yet he still found a way to keep the team competitive and in the game every week, even if the defense always blew the game for him. Kirk was not competitive AT ALL against Denver or Seattle.

This game was completely different. Kirk is not getting “benched” when ALL of the starters get pulled. And they got pulled because the game was out of reach…big difference. Kirk doesn't play defense that allowed 38 points to the other team. This loss wasn't all on Kirk...smh. You got penalties that killed drives. And Kirk sure didn't have a clean pocket to make his throws. The o-line was either getting pushed into Kirk or the Broncos were just going around them, two bad snaps, dropped passes and receivers not getting separation etc etc. The run game wasn't effective either. It takes all eleven and the right play calls to put points on the board. No quarterback is gonna win games when your o-line does not play well and your defense stinks. It happened to Mahomes in Super Bowl LV. He was pummeled by Tampa Bay's pass rush all game (same as Kirk), was sacked three times (same as Kirk), had two interceptions (Kirk had one INT), had one fumble (same as Kirk) and didn’t throw any touchdowns (same as Kirk). Also, the defense was porous against the rush and played too much soft zone (same as the Falcons). The Bucs jumped out to a 21-6 lead at halftime (same thing happened in the Falcon game) and the Chiefs lost 31-9.

Ask Matt Ryan how a bad defense makes a good, or even elite QB look when the defense can't stop a cold and the O has to put in over time just to keep pace with their opponent! Matt had only 2 years when his D was good enough to hold the line, which helped them reach the playoffs; 2012 and 2016 2012 ended in a BS non PI call against Roddy White on a 4th and 4 against the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. 2016 We all know what happened with that, we don't need to relive it, and HARDLY Matts fault. Point is, a shitty D will cause any good QB to struggle bc they feel they they have to over cone the defensive deficiencies also. In other words, do too much.
