Just bought a brand new green GTS 4.0! Upgrading the brakes, suspension, exhaust, and shifter ASAP. I'm glad I watched your video! Matts running stock brakes and suspension at over 500hp - you don’t need to upgrade them on a 400hp GTS, just get a free flow exhaust and if you can afford it change the gearing…

@@neilturner6749 maybe I'm losing it (there is always room for that lol) but I am pretty sure there have been plenty of US GT4RS customer deliveries by this point since they started late '22. I got to see one of the first ones in the state of Kansas late last year and met a few folks who were supposed to have theirs by end of year in Texas. Haven't been able to see said people since but I am quite confident they have their cars.

Turns out the Cayman/Spyder 4.0 Deman-modified engine makes a big chunk more torque down low than the 4.0 GT3 Deman-modified engine (as explained by Matt and Tom Segura in their Deman-modified 992 GT3 video). Nice to see the Cayman/Boxster have more power than 911 for a change.

To me, this is the direction that any Spyder variant should go. The RS is cool, but I’d much prefer a “touring” variant, which I think is the direction Matt’s taken this car (and then some). Very very cool.

It's like a super gran turismo kind of build - in the original sense of the term where you could cross the European continent and many countries at a very rapid pace while still being very comfortable. Granted, the 718/982 is too small to carry serious luggage, but in every other way Matt's car fits the bill.

I noticed you had Zack toggle all the center console buttons when he got in the driver's seat. It's a bit of a "first world problems" thing, but if you want to have those settings persist on startup, check out T-Design 9's memory module. I bought one for my 981 and took it with me when I got my 718; never have to think about those buttons again.

Friend of mine has a 981 GT4 Deman with the 4.25l for the track. Coming from the 3.8l which was already a good engine to a 4.25l Deman - holy smokes what a transformation. Combined with the shorter shifts, a crazy custom build exhaust - brutal. And the coolest part - it's from what I know the only 981 Deman in Canada.....(maybe someone knows another owner?!) Great video as usual!

I’m so happy that a guy that reviews cars for a living shares the same opinion on the perfect sports car. A high powered NA boxster or cayman with shorter gearing. Also I can really feel when a car has more chassis than power. Only thing that I don’t agree with is the torquey flat powerband. I think it’s more fun when it’s peaky and comes alive when you rev it out.

On the re-gear: 2-5 is EXACTLY what I would do with my Cayman. I've thought exactly this before...1st is fine, and I'd like to keep 6th for gas mileage. Unfortunately on my 987, the only choice that I can really afford is a full final drive change, not as ideal, but still will make it quicker and more fun in the corners.

You guys should do a build series chasing the fizz of this car at a more universally attainable price point. Something like maybe an na or NB Miata with a cool engine swap like a built up k24 or a j32 or something. Or a cheap but interesting LS like an aluminum 5.3 with a 4.8 crank that can rev to the moon. I would drool over a series like this. I think in the modern era of new cars getting further and further from mechanical engagement, I think the enthusiast community would love something like this.

Hi Matt. First off, you were the source of my inspiration in getting my DeMan 718 Spyder. But now I owe it to you to inspire you to go all the way with yours. My 718 Spyder DeMan has the Dundon headers, overaxle cat pipe and cracked pretzel megaphone axle back cross flow straight pipe. WWII at cruise but much more than that 'Fab Speed' setup: A long thunderous avalanche of burbles and pops with just one stab of the throttle in neutral. RSR/F1 high RPM howl. Much more engaging sound during both relaxed and fast shifts. Matt, you have gone all the way except for sound, and for what, lack of drone between 2100-2900 RPM? I think if the car also sounds it's part you will have a complete special package. You will surely sell it for the price you ask because that special buyer will not give a hoot about the dreaded (but really not so bad ) drone range and will start to believe in 'frozenberry'. If you do as I have done (you will have to re-tune your car because of because of the radical improvement in flow that the Dundon set-up provides) you will have a burden lifted to know you can sell it for it's full value: but you won't because you would then truly enjoy your polished jewel and will never consider parting with it.

About that sound, my 981 GT4 DeMan build has Cargraphic catless headers and blows 118 decibels at full throttle under load, so I can’t drive at the nearest track and autocross venue in the Phoenix area. I don’t want to change the setup to comply, giving up any performance, so I may just buy a beater Miata for autocross dates. At the tracks where they don’t suffer noise limits, the car is awesome sounding and in performance.

I have Borla's S-type exhaust on my 981 Cayman and it also has a guttural rumble similar to this at lower RPMs. I believe it's for the same reason - each cylinder bank has its own muffler and exhaust exit so the two banks' exhaust pulses never mix.
