FOr those who wonder, the $240k number for the Spyder RS is an average taken between this particular press car ($210k) and the four other Spyder RS's we have either at WCCS or in our friend network. This test car was the lowest price, and the highest was over $290k. We have never seen one actually sell for less than $200k.

I don't agree. A 2024 build if you do not have PCCB, bucket seats, Weissach, and Paint to Sample it was a car of $185K. This will be comparable to the build of the other two Spyders. My car 2024 Weissach with stripe (additional cost) + PCCB + Bucket. $200k. $240 is not an average but a top PTS and magnesium build.

Awesome review! Drove a GT3 back to back with a 4.5 GT4, would take the 4.5 without question. Even better, a 4.5 spyder. I did the shakedown drive for my friends 981 Spyder 4.5 before shipping it back to the west coast and it was the most fun Porsche I've ever driven. It was on the stock skinny tires and you could slide that car everywhere. Merging onto the highway in 2nd gear partial throttle, wheel spin, short shifted and rolled into 3rd, got about 1000rpm through the gear and wheel spin again, short shifted again to 4th before the car settled down. The torque everywhere 4.5 makes the car feel hundreds of pounds lighter because the car just goes, effortless, the GT3 engine is awesome and dramatic but it feels limited, you have to wait for revs or always be riding the top end for that feeling.

The idea of a very difficult top and no manual, further solidified my wish to buy a Spyder. However, good luck in buying a Spyder with low mileage without paying over. I paid about $20,000 over for my low mileage Spyder (843 miles). It was within 98% how I would have spec'd it out and that was still much less than $75K. I am considering a tune and exhaust and, possibly the transmission from DeMan. I am still not convinced about going to 4.5L on this car. I might do that on my 991.1 GTS. As always, great reviews.

Great video. Though wish you could have also had a stock 981 Spyder to compare. I still think the 981 Spyder is the best of the bunch… Compared to the 718 Spyder, the 981 has a much better sounding engine and exhaust note. It also has a much firmer clutch pedal and better exterior curves, especially the rear end with its curved and integrated taillights. Sure, the 981 Spyder has less power and less front end grip, as instead of the 991 GT3 front end chassis and steering it has the same fixed suspension as the Cayman and Boxster GTS with the optional lowere Sport suspension and the steering rack from the 991 Turbo. Again, though, the fixed suspension is Goldilocks perfect without the need for any adjustment, whereas the 718 Spyder suspension is either too hard or too soft in its 2 settings. The Spyder is a car that’s about experience, not lap times or drag races. To that end, the 981 Spyder in stock form has the best suspension, the best clutch pedal feel, the best sound (of any stock Spyder, IMO), and the best looks. And it’s cheaper than all 3 of the options you tested.

Revvy engines are perhaps better suited to slower cars in general. Your Integra Type Rs and whatnot. The DeMan 4.5 makes so much sense for your usecase, and I bet most people's usecase really. Maybe less sense than the stock Spyder, but more than the RS for sure. Love the soft top race, it's a great addition to the video AND it's informative for potential buyers😁

This video was well done. Totally agree with Matt that’s there’s no bad choice here. To my ears, nothing beats the sound of the RS but to my wallet, nothing beats the standard Spyder. The DeMan just sweetens the deal quite a bit and no question is a torque beast. However, I still feel like a tuned Spyder or GT4 with a Kline exhaust is the right way to go and is an absolutely perfect canyon carver and just all around fun car; not too stiff, no harsh ride and tons of fun. Don’t ask me how I know ;-)

The De Mann sounds like a WW2 aircraft.

I wouldn't have any regrets about how you built yours either. It's exactly what I'd do as well. I too would rather your setup vs. a 4RS. Though I'm up by South Lake Tahoe so I'd go Cayman gt4 because we get more rain and snow. I'd still go 18 way adjustables and manual though. How anyone would say anything negative about your setup is beyond me.

Each to thier own, but a porsche boxster isn't a turbo diesel/muscle car. Its a high rev old school sports car that lost its way with turbos. If sound is no longer Important, why not get you torque from an EV

Marco, nooo! Opened the frunk AND the trunk 😂 - I thought “I didn’t think the top was stored in the frunk on the Spyder”. 🤓
