Some amazing footage here from my time helping the phenomenal UFC legend, BJJ Black Belt and all round über individual Matt Serra on one of his outstanding seminars at the fantastic For the Love of MMA event held in Manchester last weekend!
In this clip, Matt talks about the importance of establishing frames when looking to escape bottom side control.
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed helping Matt during his seminar. Truly brilliant coaching and never a dull moment throughout!! I am now looking forward to visiting him at his gym in Brooklyn when I am next in New York!!
Enjoy the brilliance on display here and then make sure you smash the follow button on Matt, his gym Serra BJJ and the For The Love Of MMA event series across all social media today!!

Back on the matt after more than a decade. Ragdolled for an hour by two guys 50 lbs heavier than myself. So humbled. So ready for next week. Fml

Great move! Wish could see it slower and more dramatic so we really know how you're popping out and around in that last part. Thanks for sharing!

In the second sequence, his(Serra) left arm goes from overhook to underhook, he then gets his feet tight to his butt, using the underhook and kinda shrimpingback allows him to go behind and around his opponent. It’s important to shoot that underhook arm deeeep to the far side when transitioning. Hope this helps.

@@travisjones1481a little late on this but is your underhook arm swinging straight up or is it more of a 45 degree direction?
@travisjones1481
@travisjones1481 6 ай бұрын
@@rulesyaface the underhook arm, when making the burst movement is going to reach like you’re trying to scratch your other shoulder, if that makes sense? You’re not trying to push the opponent up towards the ceiling, but up towards your head. Sorry it’s kinda hard to explain in text form 😂

@@travisjones1481 thanks for the reply. Ok so it's both up (like trying to slam your biceps in your own head if you didn't have the underhook) but also over/across (scratching your opposite shoulder) I've seen this move many times and never quite figured out how it made the bottom person get lower towards the opponents legs to wrestle up. Thanks for helping explain some of the magic lol

Always good to learn from the basics, we can’t expect ourselves to always be faster than the opponent, because the person is thinking the same as you. Understanding our limits through any forms of martial art is a good wake up call to reality.

It depends on the situation. Sometimes 1v1 does happen. Also sometimes they take you down or knock you down. You absolutely have to know how to reverse the position or stand up.
