I've been following Matt Smith for a while. He is quite the instructor. Does anybody know what model slide he is using in these resonator videos? Thank you.

That was sure an awesome composition, good message, don't turn your back on your best friend, I like that, like the tune as well, great slide work, you have become my slide mentor , the " L" shape, yeah, and thinking in terms diatonically forming chord voicings in open tunings, yeah, I've got to get " standard" tuning out of my mind right now, quite enjoyed your ' turn around" lesson, clever blues turnarounds are awesome and vital. I've got to shuttle back in time and relearn these things the right way, but I'm self taught, took the instrument as far as I could, never knowing early on about special tunings...etc, eventually find things out though , great that KZbin exists

Are those the 16 gauge strings? I bought a set, but I am worried that they will crush the cone because they are so stout. Any opinion on that? And thanks for posting, you sound really good.

Feel is a very subjective term between guitarists - we have a few Resonator sets you can check out - Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes use them, as did the one and only Mike Auldridge. Fantastic playing and singing, but @4:34 is some serious mis-info. Ringing after you mute strings isn't why it's called a resonator, isn't "the way to tell a good one," and isn't "what you look for." That ringing is simply from sympathetic vibration from strings behind the tailpiece (and/or behind the nut)...any guitar will do this, especially if using a tailpiece. It might be louder on a resonator, but there are plenty of players who dampen the strings near the tailpiece so they wont ring like that...and it's still a working resonator guitar. It's a resonator because of the resonating cone design, which resonates and amplifies the guitar, somewhat like a speaker (either pointing inward--biscuit bridge--or outward--spider bridge).

That song in the beginning of the video ("Simple Truce") seemed to quote "Danny Boy", and reminded me of "Amazing Grace" another spot. Don't know if that was intentional or not, but it was brilliant! And the reso guitar made it into its own thing; again, Mr. Smith...brilliant! Watching you makes me wanna go out to my nearest music store and look for the Tri-Cone in the corner! Okay, so I'm gushing, but it gets my creative gears turning, it really does. Keep up the excellent lessons!
