I´ve seen this now a bunch of times, but just recently I´ve come to think, that I may have actually understood something, Matt says here wrong all the time! He says, of course there´s always a part of him that says "I never want to go" and then he follows that up with "there are no parts like this!"! I always thought, he meant by that, that there are no parts, you could possibly play as an actor, where you legitimately, 100% seriously can say: "I never want to go!" But just now, I´ve come to think: Or did he actually just mean "There re no parts like this" referring to the specific part of "The Doctor"? In that case the aspect of him kind of not wanting to go would theoretically become much larger! Understand what I mean? Can anyone help me clarify?

People always say " is my doctor", and it's always the one they grew up with. Well I'm 40something and in that sense Tom Baker was "my" doctor. But I have to say that Matt Smith is my favourite doctor. I think he made the part his own more than any other.

I grew up with Eccleston as my first Doctor and then carried on through all of Tennants who then became my favourite after 3 years of him being the doctor but after watching all of Matt's series.. Many peoples favorite Doctor is based on when they started watching the series. For me, Tom Baker (Doctor # 5) was playing the part when I discovered Dr. Who. I thought Matt Smith brought a lot of that flavor and added more wacky humor. He's in the mix of the tie of my favorite. I can't really decide on a specific favorite, I like them all, even the War Doctor (John Hurt) is in there.

Gah Matt Smith was the reason why I started watching Doctor Who (or continued... I remember once and a while watching David on my vacations at my grandparents. The theme song always haunted me my entire life and I'm glad to be back haha) I gotta say him, and the past two actors where amazing. Matt Smith in my opinion was the best one and he was a lot of fun to watch in the series lol. I was 6 when Matt left, I wasn’t into Doctor Who back then but I clearly remember being horrified that he was leaving just because he was DOCTOR WHO, the first one I could remember and I thought the world would fall apart without him. Yeah, Matt actually did a GREAT job at the doctor, it was just unfortunate for him that he had to follow a tough act such as David Tennant's. But he delivered. I even admit to being a little sore with him at first because Tennant was gone but Smith was great and between him and Tennant it's hard to say who did better. Matt made me laugh countless times, that's for sure. I gotta say one of my favorite episodes now is Closing Time just because of all the hilarious jokes in there. He did a great job of showing the Doctor's quirkiness and his lack of understanding at times of humans. XD Bravo, Matt. You will not be forgotten.

To me, Matt and David have the same issue which is that they left too soon, or I suppose another way to look at it is they left on high. But my personal opinion with them both is their first seasons were abit off and they hadn't quite settled in, and by their respective third seasons they really were the Doctor and then they were gone. I wasn't ready for David when Chris left because Bad wolf/parting of the ways was just so good. And I was nowhere near ready for Matt after the end of time part 1 and 2, but now I miss them both and their eras.

The Doctor gets 12 regenerations, that means 13 Doctors, they officially said a long time ago that the War Doctor and meta crisis 10 version 2 both count as regenerations, that puts Matt Smith's Doctor as number 13, so he needed a 2nd cycle, which he got, so Capaldi is technically the 14th Doctor, but will still be referred to as the 12th, and just so you know I'm only typing this because I saw a couple of threads disputing this.

Well my comment mysteriously disappeared, but by all accounts I don't believe they count as regenerations, and I'm fairly sure it was officially reported as that.

Cryer24597 Technically he didn't regenerate I'm agreeing with you on that, for the whole kept his same face part, but it still counts towards the count of regenerations, based solely on the fact he used up that regenerations energy, hence why he ran out and needed a 2nd cycle.

mattpkc34xx What I also find interesting, The 1st Doctors first human companions where teachers at Coal Hill School, and now at the beginning of a new regeneration cycle, Peter Capaldi's first companions are teachers at Coal Hill school. ( Plus Both doctors second on screen adventures was a dale story ) ... Gotta love Moffat XD

At first I felt the same why when Peter Capaldi was cast as the 12th Doctor until I found out Peter Capaldi is the only whovian that grew up watching the show in the 60s and he got to play the Doctor

I connected with Matt's portrayal of the Doctor the most as I'm a very funny person with a child's sense of enthusiasm. It was awesome watching him move about on screen doing silly things but toning it down for serious moments. He will always be my favorite Doctor.
