It seems like hes just showing off here but ive actually learned quite a bit from just watching this video a few times. He's primarily showing you how to solo so there's not a lot of practical application to glean here but there's a lot of fun tricks in drumming that teachers rarely go over and matt was cool enough to show this kid some of it.

I remember being in high school and other drummers would make fun of me practicing my rudiments especially my Paradiddles over and over again until I challenged out drum leader and whipped his ass in front of the whole band. I was section lead after that and it was because of my rudiments.

Yeah hey hey! What a badass ringy, cranked up crackin’ snare!! YEAH!!!! and Matt has been my bread and butter or playing for a while now as I saw GNR live in April 92’ and inspired so much by his consistent power and tasty chops and great big tight snare sound! I love Steven Adler too, however Matt just took GNR to a new level of confidence and power (yeah, Pantera song). Such a great talent and even better guy and personality! He’s what a Pro should be! I finally know what he’s doing on the quick cymbal to snare work….it’s paradiddles of course! I thought he was doing some combo or 3s and 5s in polyrhythms, but nope! Great video and excellent playing! CHOP MASTER GALORE and nice with the John Bonham sweeps and triplets!! ROCK ON MATT SORUM!! And thank you for all you’ve done! LOVE YA!!!

@herbie7477 жыл бұрын
It's not about "doing stuff"- it's about feel & whats right for the song. Adler had it - Matt never did.
@Bandit726 жыл бұрын
I'd have to disagree. I'm a huge fan of both but Sorum did some sublime work on UYI 1&2 which Adler wouldn't have even thought of. I think Appetite suited Adler down to the ground but with the more complex arrangements on the next two albums there was only one man for the job.
