Go further. 101% tax rate at anything earned over $10,000,000 - so people and companies making too much actually start losing money to taxes. And then properly enforce those taxes. Asset seizure and nationalisation should be the penalty for tax evasion (which is the same as tax avoidance, no matter what the rich claim).

Yes and no. In the 13th century, King Philip IV of France purged the Hebrew population and then the Templars in order to confiscate their ridiculous wealth to fund his government. These measures helped him centralize his country in the short term, but also had devastating effects on the French economy, as the Jews and Templars provided important financial services to the country. It got so bad that his son, Louis X had to ask them to return when the loss of so many skilled tradesmen and bankers caused the economy to crash.

@@barbiqueareaThese billionaires can have everything they ever materially wanted because they have a lot of fiat currency which is stabilized and propogated by the government. The government that made this type of economy possible, that historically segregated and kept classes of people out of ownership society (and continues to do so in many respects) that enacted incredible welfare to corporations again and again, and lets face it: operates the public school system and university system to teach children to accept their laborious lot in life and continue to work to enrich the ownership class; this government should be able to control the distribution of resources in its own society. If the government votes to redistribute the wealth in this system then that is an unqualified good to a majority of the people that government represents and if 700 people and families lose out; too bad so sad.

Saying 300k a year isn't enough to raise and take care of your family is an astounding disconnect from reality. No, you NEED 600k or your family is basically on the streets.
@glenn_desert_witch
@glenn_desert_witch 7 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I mean, 600K is tough to live on when the mortgage on your house alone is $6000, because you must live in the best school district, even if your kids go to private school -- you wouldn't want them to meet kids on their street who are delinquents (I wonder what color those kids are)... And then your HELOC costs another $1000 a month because you have to renovate to keep up the value of your hose. Not to mention the insane expense of owning a home in a fancy resort town so you can take your family on vacation at least twice a year. And those kids have to have all the latest electronics and most trendy clothes, or they will get picked on... And his SAHW needs her weekly mani-pedi, and her biweekly hair appointment or she gets crabby. Let's not forget just how expensive the newest duallie is, and the wife needs her three-row SUV or she can't bring home half of Costco plus the kids... Even though she never really goes to Costco, but they do have a membership just in case they want to cosplay as poor for that yearly family event, which would be tacky to cater, cause, I mean, she *is* the perfect, feminine hausfrau of every incel's dreams... It all adds up, really. They only manage to save $1000 a month after funding the 401K and Roth IRA... I seriously have had people (who by then lived in a $1.5M mansion in a gated community, just two elderly people with enough square footage for a family of 5 -- a home they bought after their children left home) commiserate about poverty with me... I had asked for laundry detergent and other household basics for Christmas from them cause I literally was struggling to pay rent, and had to go to food pantries to get most of what I ate. Which made me ask "Wait, I thought that, by the time you got married you owned a home, and one of you was a nurse, while the other a biochemist at Abbott..." And, no sense of irony or self consciousness, she replies "Oh, yes, we were making okay money! But we could only afford to go on vacation once a year!" When she saw my look of bewilderment she continued, "Well, you know... We were poor relative to our neighbors who went on vacation twice a year and bought a new car every few years. And we really had to watch our spending!" Jesus Fucking Christ, what is wrong with these people?

Exactly. More money or targeting groups I don't like aren't going to make the government more efficient. We should be lowering taxes for everyone. Start with the lower income brackets, it'll help them the most.

@@hooksx Every single dollar that the government spends except for foreign aid goes back to the economy. every single dollar. Unlike the "efficient" private market, where a significant chunk of money goes towards offshore accounts, Making real estate prices explode, Dick rockets and Gigi-yachts to park their yachts at. Not to mention other productive industries like union busting and tax evasion. The myth of "government inefficiency" is the biggest and most successful propaganda conceived by the rich, The government went to space 60 years before any private enterprise could even dream of doing that. The government organized a 8 million man army decades before any corporations could dream of fielding even a million employees on anything. You think the government is inefficient? Look up what happened to the east India megacorperation when all they had to do was 10% of what governments do.

Pro-life is only valid when the kid is both hypothetical and attached to a woman who hasn't yet learned her place. Once the child is born, it gets polluted by The World and all the evil that surrounds it, and, really, should just be sent to jail pre-emptively cause you know they are gonna grow up to be a thug. Or, the kid could be his, and, see, all these very masculine men are very, very upset about the fact that *their* child could be a victim of abortion. Or that *their* wife might divorce them. These are serious concerns. Women should do what they're told, or you may end up getting Medicare for All, and have to pay a whopping 30% of your income in taxes! That's a lot of money! Poors don't know what they are talking about, when they only pay a couple thousand a year!

The way Walsh conflates income and wealth, as well as marginal tax rate vs effective tax rate is making me cringe sooooo hard. Also, anecdote about this: my ex's brother and his wife made good money in 2008/9. Together they brought in around $250K (or more, they never told us exactly how much, but we knew it must be more than $250K cause that is where the tax rate was being raised. They lived in LA, but owned their home free and clear, so they also had a nice disposable income. The brother started complaining, saying he would vote Republican in the next election cause the Dems were just out of control with these tax hikes. Meanwhile, me and my husband were living mostly on my income and student loans, maybe bringing in $35K total between the two of us, renting a modest home, and wondering what to do once we needed to start repaying those loans. We actually started talking about money because we were short on rent, or my car needed to go to the shop, and we needed a little help from him in the form of a loan of under $700. But, without a trace of self-consciousness, the brother told us he might not be able to loan us money, and just how ruinous the tax hike was going to be: his daughter was in private school, and that cost $20K a year, and if his taxes went up, he would not be able to pay for that! My husband and I were stunned. Their nightmare scenario with a tax hike was they might not be able to send their daughter to private school at a price that could clothe, house, and feed one of us. And, ofc, I don't even remember if that tax hike went through or not, but the girl continued to go to private school, and then was sent to private college out of state where she lives off campus and has all her expenses paid for by her parents. These people truly don't understand how the rest of us live. BTW, me and my husband had it good, we were not poor, and we were quite privileged to be able to go to college and get loans in the first place.

Matt Walsh doesn't understand how taxes work. If you make $700,000 only the tippiest toppiest amount of that is taxed at 39%. The rest is taxed at a lower percentage on a graduated tax scale. Also, taxing corporations higher and taxing stock buy backs would incentivize those company to increase their profits not by raising prices, but by opening up new factories, hiring more people, and creating more products which would make those products more affordable to average working people. Also, student debt relief doesn't mean that banks are just stiffed that money. They still get it. The Government pays them. Although, they wouldn't get all of the added income through interest on the loan if it were paid off early. But, they still get the loan back and any interest already paid on it.

When he says people making several hundreds of thousands of dollars have it the worst, I’m sorry I don’t see how anybody in his audience can take him seriously. Yeah, it must be so hard to have to “fork over 40%” of your income, and still have all the vacation time you want, not have to worry about food, and live comfortably all around. So much worse than people working a grueling job for minimum of lower-wage just to scrape by. And don’t get me started on how horrible that is compared to somebody being homeless and food insecure, let me tell you.

I like that Sam adds the caveat that the top tax rate is for INDIVIDUALS, but for married couples, their incomes are averaged, so if you make $750k per year and your spouse makes $400k per year you're going to get taxed at the lower rate because you're only making $575k per year each which is less than the $600k necessary to be in the top tax bracket.

And, guess what, his wife doesn't have an income. So it is entirely possible Matt may be staring down the barrel of paying a whole $0.12 extra on every dollar he earns over $1M or so (I don't actually think the tax rate is exactly divided in half if you have spouse, but, you know, the point stands whether it's $1M or $1.2M a year. Or around $3000 A DAY. I once made $2400 in a month. It was the stimulus check. And it was the most money I'd ever seen in a month my entire life, despite having a college degree, lots of professional skills, and being over 40.

My issue with the wealth tax is that you are taxing unrealized gains be it from owning real estate or stock. Yes I know people in power get stock options and other benefits but get paid a basic income making them worth much more then what they are paid annually. Also, they take out debt against their stock holdings and other things which should be stopped and not allowed. But taxing wealth is in essence a form of double taxation and is the difference between post and pre tax contributions to a 401k plan the former tax is only paid on interest earned and not on the money contributed, the latter has taxes paid on it when withdrawing as no taxes were paid on it.
