My 11 year old girl put on some serious makeup today, we are visiting my dad and when he saw it he jokingly said to take it off. She came down and asked me if I think she shouldn't wear makeup like that. I told her that my opinion is completely irrelevant when it comes down to what she wants and what makes her happy, and i accept anything she feels is right for her. I told my dad and he apologized and felt bad that she took him seriously and that he made her feel bad. I'm a bit traditional in some ways and my dad is very much more so, but he understood immediately that he messed up my making her feel any type of way, and my biggest goal is to make sure my kids are happy with who they are and how they are. Nothing matters more then a child's self image and the comfort they have in their own skin, and ultimately your acceptance of that.

It really is on point, and I'm speaking from my own experience here living in a blood red state with a very conservative father and a complacent (at best) mother. That statement sums up traditional conservative parenting in a nutshell. I know I for one would've been spared a lot of heartache and resentment if only my own father had simply loved me for who I am, instead of shaming and ridiculing me for who I'm not. Because I am not him. And I'm not even trans or gay, so I can only imagine what those kids are going through on a daily basis. Now I'm a father of two boys myself, just like my parents, and I'm really trying my best to be the best father I'm capable of being, and to cast out all the behaviors I inevitably inherited from my own father. I know I'm doing better than he was to me, but it's still a daily struggle for me to not resort to those toxic behaviors. Because that's just what I learned from him and I guess I didn't have many other positive role models to show me the right things to do. But I certainly know all the wrong things to do, so I guess that counts for something.

Walsh is definitely severely mentally ill, and should have nothing to do with adults, let alone children. For him it's not just a grift, there is this horrible lingering sense of authenticity to his persona. It's not hard to tell a slick conman from a true believer, if you're not one of the people under their spell. What's most abhorrent about it is that he is given a platform and paid to run his mouth there, offering him sense of validation even beyond his normal Gawd-brain self-delusions. That, more than anything else that Ben Shapiro does makes me sick. Walsh is the type of guy who would push Ben in a vat of boiling acid, if his "religious sensibilities" (aka megalomaniac narcissism) was pointing him in that direction, and he'd be able to get away with it in legal terms. That's what that part of "I would do anything to..." is. Those not so veiled threats about him potentially, some day, exploding with unhinged murderous rage over what is essentially nothing but a bomb he's been building in his own brain over these years. Honestly, he reminds me quite a bit of mass stabber/shooter Elliot Rodger when he was making video after video about how unfair and terrible women are and how they need to be punished by him, how entire world needs to be punished for "rejecting" him.

I was raised in a private far right christian school, so I have personal experience with people just like Matt Walsh. And let me tell you, people like him think nothing of committing violence against their own children. Yes, a certain small percentage of people end up gay but people who truly, persistently feel as if they were "born in the wrong body" are very, very rare. The amount of trans identifying youth has increased by orders of magnitude recent years. It's cost/benefit analysis. My youngest son is trans. He is the farthest thing from self loathing. My son has more courage and bravery in his pinky than I will ever have. My son is unapologetically himself and I am so proud of him for it. He is creative, funny, and very smart. By first grade my son was reading at 4th grade level and now in 5th grade has a better vocabulary than most adults I know. Kids are smarter than adults give them credit for, some of them incredibly so, and if you pay attention to your kids you won't be as surprised when they tell you who they are. When my son came out it was an adjustment for our family and I worried about his safety more than anything but I wasn't exactly surprised. Pay attention to your kids. Get to know them as people.

@TabiTash, thank you! I am the dad of an amazing 16yo trans daughter. As I have heard others say, and I can echo, the fact that she is trans is aming the least interesting things about her. She is one of the most authentic people I know. She cares about people and is COURAGEOUS in defense of her friends who are trans (and those who aren't). We are currently fighting several anti-trans youth bills where we live. My daughter has spoken out in meetings with state senators and representatives; she has been interviewed multiple times on our local news. She makes me so damn proud every day! Not to me, personally, but he describes the LGBT flag in the following terms: as if it had been painted by a blind schizophrenic. However, I actually know a blind person who has schizophrenia and she’s one of the sweetest people you’d ever want to meet. Well, I got pretty upset because I have multiple disabilities and my friends do and the last thing I need is more hate speech using people groups that, he’s never met and never understood. So I reported them to KZbin but unfortunately, KZbin doesn’t really give you a chance to say what the hate speech is. If he thinks the rainbow flag is ugly, well, he’s entitled to think that. But he’s not entitled to ridicule a group of people with disabilities. For instance, imagine somebody saying this: That piece of work is so beautiful. That piece of music sounds so good, or that piece of pottery is so delicate and well done, it must’ve been done by a blind schizophrenic. Now, imagine the difference between your feelings when you heard that phrase, versus the one that Matt Walsh said. In his comparison of his discussed with the rainbow flag, he has connected a group of multiply, disabled people, i.e., those of us who are blind, and who also have mental illness. Can you see how negative an image that portrays? But if you were to say, that piece of music is so beautiful, I bet you a blind schizophrenic wrote it, then you’ve got a positive image. But nobody’s ever going to put those images together. Honestly, it’s hard to be, a Christian myself with disabilities because I am traditional. I am pro life and I do appreciate Mr. Walsh standing up against euthanasia for people with disabilities. While that doesn’t erase his comments about blind people with schizophrenia and deaf people with schizophrenia, which he compared that to some of the 😞 music that’s out there, but as a Christian is a person with disabilities it’s very hard to find a good political party for me to belong to. I’m too conservative for the liberals. But the conservatives don’t think about me either. And it feels like the liberals are mostly thinking LGBT because You don’t really have to do anything to help them. You can hire somebody from that community, but who they sleep with and how they express themselves has an anything to do with being able to drive a taxi or fly an airplane. As a blind person, we’re still in the dark ages as far as I’m concerned. People with disabilities are highly unemployed, not unemployable, just unemployed, because people aren’t interested in Doing really good virtuous things. It’s easier to hire somebody from another group then to go the extra mile and make your website accessible and so on. I think perhaps Dennis Prager is a better example of conservative values and feelings, the Matt Walsh.

Kids are impulsive and think this decision is best for their life, even if they didn’t even graduated high school yet. It just shows that they should decide if they are older.
