My friend just came back from Asia travel. He told me that he should pay a visit to China earlier, he used to worry whether he will be able to get used to Chinese food. He had very bad experience travelling in India with food positioning. He used to believe China was more developed than India, but India has more cultural elements to offer. But he found actually China has even more cultural offerings, it is just because Chinese culture is less popular and familiar than Indian culture in the West as India was a colony of the UK. And China looks far more developed in every single aspect. China and India are nothing in similarity, just like China and Japan in 1980s, vastly different. He has been to several cities, most cities and most places are clean and tidy and in good condition and order. There are of course very dirty places, but there are just very few. He was stunned with Chinese infrastructure system and its cleanliness and tidiness, making China looks nothing like a developing China, but more than a developed country. The travelling experience in China is even exceeding his in Japan because China is more colorful as every single city is different. For him, it is more exploring and adventurous. The West is more familiar to Indian and Japanese culture. China is definitely a tourist destination that has been undervalued.

My old plasterers knees wouldn't handle walking around that huge park. Some years ago my wife Sunny and I travelled not so far from home at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne Australia. They had bought an exhibition of some of the Terracotta Warriors to the gallery. Seeing your faces reminded me of the awesome experience of seeing this marvellous history. We were blown away. I love learning of other cultures. The tomb and the soldiers are stunning. I don't have the words as you both said its emotional, and wordless. the pollution is caused by desert. Xian is closed to Inner-Mongolia, there are 6 deserts in China. the deserts not only impact Xian but also impact Beijing as well. China work very hard to build the green great wall, there are two deserts (Kubuqi desert and Maowusu desert) were changed to oasis as they are closed to the yellow river, but the rest 4 desers are real tough. the desertification is the pain point for the world.

Peter Frankopan's book "The Silk Roads; A new history of the world" is so worth the read, for example. Other suggestions? A "dust cart"? How about a garbage golf cart truck (rubbish lorry for British English speakers? Smiling). So love your clips Matt and Julia. Merci so so so much. Hope to see all of this in 2025.

In fact, some taxi drivers collaborate with unofficial souvenir shops. When you ask, 'Okay, I'm not buying souvenirs from official stores, so where should I go to buy them?', they would drive you to the location of those unofficial stores. They provide customers to these stores, and the stores also share their income to the drivers.

usually the street vendors sell things at higher prices for tourists and perhaps even lower quality products. that's probably what your taxi driver was warning you about. but there is another aspect to individual street vendors. some come from rural areas and maybe can't find a permanent job so they just hustle what they can streetside. if they aren't aggressive and seem genuine, buying a slightly over priced product from them is just a way of helping them out.

The other is called '梦回大秦'(Dream back to Qin), which is similar to Transformers 3D ride in Universal Studios. Guests sit on a vehicle which moves through various physical sets and 3D screens. @edukid1984
@edukid1984 2 ай бұрын
There had been no shortage of tomb raiders trying to get a piece of the First Emperor's treasure, but somehow they never succedded. In the modern age since the 1970s, the current consensus is that no opening wil be attempted for fear of damage to the priceless artefacts and relics that are probably buried. Not until there is sufficient confidence in the technology to minimize the impact. In any case, the Chinese government stance in general has been one of leaving the past emperors' tombs alone and not disturb them with excavation (unless it's become necessary to pre-emptively protect the content inside).

2:56 Xi'an and Beijing are called "Cheng/城", with their locations, functions, structure and layouts well planned in advance of their being built. Normally they come in square shape with obvious axis and straight lined streets, among 4 walls. Well Shanghai and Tianjin are called "Shi/市" , evolved from marketplaces, growing on natral landscapes, normally beside rivers, and main roads. In the case of Kunming, i believe there is a small walled Kunming Cheng/城 early in history. And it's now surrounded by outskirts which is called Kunming Shi/市 today 😂😂😂😂😂
