My guess is that Shane and Luis discovered a common interest when touring that they both dig history, specifically American history, specifically revolutionary wsrnstuff and then even more specifically the Presidents, so Shane probably tried getting him on the pod, Luis wouldn't want to, but agreed on doing a history pod since NO personal or current events have to talked about at all.

Sally was Jefferson’s late wife’s sister. Jefferson had a great relationship with his wife and father-in-law. When Jefferson’s wife died, he remained in contact with the father-in-law and even was put into his Will. So when the father-in-law died, Jefferson inherited all of his property, which included slaves. One of his slaves was beautiful and reminded him of his late wife. Turns out Jefferson’s father-in-law was fooling around with his slaves and had a daughter (Sally). Sooo Sally looked like his late wife because they were sisters. The moral of the story, Sally was not related to him by blood. She was technically his half-sister-in-law.
