Lets not forget that Saban went 7-6 and lost to ulm his first year with an 11th ranked recruiting class at Bama. He also lost to uab in his first year at lsu and people wanted him gone before he delivered them a championship 3 years later. It takes time to build chemistry, which is just as important as acquiring talent. Deboer had talent, but was also dealing with a team that lost over 30 of those players to the portal, lost majority of the previous coaching staff, and lost his main OC to the nfl. He was in a time crunch and was still able to have a solid first year (he's the only coach in Bama history to have more than 8 wins in the first season of coaching). Bama will only get better from here now that they can start a more consistent quarterback.

Something of note; Deboer is also the first coach to start at Bama who had an 12-gm regular season. All previous coaches had an 11-gm regular or a little further back, a 10-gm regular season. The extra game makes it a bit easier to with another game.

How did Nick Saban do it? ANSWER: Saban relied heavily on the run. Great running backs with a great running quarterback who could throw to his primary receiver. It’s an old Big 10 expression: a great running back is a quarterback’s best friend! See Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.

Deboer didn't put Simpson in the game because this team would have quit on him just like they did last year against South Florida when Saban started Simpson over Milroe. Saban went with Milroe over Ty Simpson because if he would have picked a white QB over a black QB, his black players would have revolted. That's the uncomfortable truth no one wants to talk about. Alabama has been saddled with Milroe ever since. DeBoer was afraid to bench him because of all the hype and the occasional good performance. So, basically, Ty Simpson should have been starting for the past 2 seasons but we've been stuck in mediocrity with Milroe because 2 white coaches are afraid of being called "racist"

But Nick Saban did bench Jalen Milroe and the other quarterbacks didn't do much better against South Florida. Or maybe the team laid down against South Florida? Because they wanted Jalen "Turnover" Milroe to be the quarterback? Nick Saban definitely didn't have a problem benching his starter. Last year Jalen played better than the other two guys. It's just like Jalen hurts would have gotten his job back if Tua didn't go out there and light it up

Bama is gonna be really good next season if they can get a QB to play winning football! We are super talented at WR…Ryan Williams, Jalen Hale, Germie Bernard, Isaiah Horton, Rico Scott, Cole Adams, Jalen Mbakwe, and several studs that are young! This will be the most talent we’ve had in the WR group since like 2019. We just need a QB to make quick decisions back there and let the talent do the work. Definitely gonna air the ball out much more with a natural passer back there that understands how to play the position.

I think Jalen’s most important problem was the fact that he was not very good at processing info quickly. If a play had a primary receiver, that’s all he could see. He really struggled to check down to his alternate receivers. I think he is a great ambassador for the university. I think he is a good person. He is an amazing athlete. He was never creating drama (that we knew about) and he got his bachelors and masters degree in 3 years. He’s everything you could want for in a player. I felt like he shouldn’t have gone to the NFL, but should have transferred to play for someone like Lincoln Riley who has a proven track record of developing quarterbacks and taking them to a higher level. I wish him the best of luck in his career, but I do think declaring for the NFL was premature.

Great video Matt. To those dogging the Offensive line, don’t forget teams were able to stack the box, spy Milroe, and bring lots of blitz’s because Milroe held the ball forever, struggled to make reads, and had terrible pocket awareness. This put immense pressure on the O line and made running the ball tough. Also, those dogging Sheridan, remember the greatest play call is only as good as the players execution. All of Milroe’s deficiencies made Sheridan look bad. But, Bama’s offense struggled mightily under Rees last year too. Don’t forget Bill O’Brien told Milroe to change positions. One common theme here: Milroe.

Valid points presented. However a head coach in this situation has several options. Change the offensive philosophy to fit your qb strengths or replace the qb with somone who fits your coaching philosophy. I lay a great deal of blame on the coach for trying to continually do the same thing and expecting a different result. JM may not be the best a reading the defense and finding a second read, but coaches who face this situation need to adapt and change. DeBore didn't.

Hear me out, Davis Warren is Good, 9/12 and a TD. The reason our offense is so bad is because we don’t have a single 4 star wr catching passes, and our offensive line is horrid. To go with that we run 2/3 times. Davis was a turnover machine at the start of the season but now he hung 50 on northwestern and came close with Oregon. If he had Ohio states WR he would win a natty

Milroe didn't just underperform, he was an active detriment to the team in about half of the games this season. He should have been benched midway through Tennessee. There's no way Ty Simpson could have done any worse. There's literally nothing worse than giving the ball away. I've defended Deboer all year, but his refusal to bench Milroe even for a few possessions genuinely worries me.

With all due respect Milroe was bad in certain games but this isn't all on him. Nobody noticed the beginning of the 2nd quarter Michigan game Bernard got in Milroes face and a coach pulled him away. Milroe didn't look his way the remainder of the game. We also ran our qb's 5 times a game. Saban ran the ball and asked Milroe to do less. This staff ran Milroe 20 times a game and he passed 40 times a game. It's insanity

Mattbewrong...Deboer inherited the worst of Saban's teams. They were undisciplined the last two years under Saban. To expect them just immediately change and then give Saban the benefit of his early teams discipline. This is a terrible take. Deboer took over after the transfer portal, and had to use Saban's undisciplined players.

Jalen Milroe proved his old offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien correct when he told Jalen that he should pick another position to play besides QB. The LAST two years Jalen has played against *ichigan in their bowl game let’s compare the results to find out where the issues are coming from. Yes, Seth McLaughlin and Jalen Milroe had alot of snapping thoughout 2023 season. This trend continued in the CFP Rose Bowl semifinal against *ichigan. There were NUMEROUS snapping miscues from mistimed that lead to a bad play, a 16 yard loss bc the was over Jalen’s head, to the one everyone remembers the final play the low snap that changed the play and resulting in a loss. Shortly after the loss Seth hit the transfer portal and was immediately pursued by THE OHIO STATE. Many Buckeye fans were perplexed because the starting center Carson Hinzman was returning. Also everyone that saw the Rose Bowl would have not wanted to bring those issues to Columbus, when asked by reporters Ryan Day pointed out (CORRECTLY) "I know that was a little bit of a concern, I think it had a little bit to do with the (quarterback's) cadence or whatever. He's been doing great” Ryan Day was proven correct when Seth without playing the entire season (injury) STILL won the Rimington Award, which is given to the best center in college football. Let’s now let’s switch gears to Alabama who continued to have snapping issues this season. Once AGAIN these snapping issues were highlighted in the bowl game against *ichigan. Jalen Milroe’s performance in this year in the ReliaQuest Bowl was dreadful! He had the EXACT kind of snapping issues that happened in last year’s game. It’s important to remember that *ivhigan was playing WITHOUT defense pick round picks Mason Graham and Will Johnson. What isn’t talked about alot of MANY opposing coaches started PICKING UP on the fact that Jalen lines up differently before each play depending on if it’s a run or a pass play!!! It’s EASY to spot lining up with feet parallel to the line of scrimmage on running plays versus offsetting his feet on pass plays. Anyone that know football realizes what a HIUGE advantage this is for the opposing defense. This is why we have seen a SIGNIFICANT drop in his production this year! I wish nothing but the best from that young man and I’ve seen nothing but great things about him as a person. He is EXTREMELY athletically talented and there’s no question that he belongs on the field in the NFL, BUT just not at quarterback.

Do you think it possibly was because the offensive line in the Michigan, Oklahoma, and Tennessee game was subpar and even bad? Those teams brought some serious heat when it came to putting pressure on the quarterback. There was almost no time for him to go through reads. Milroe certainly takes a fair share of the blame for some of the turnovers and not being a great in the pocket. But I really do believe our o-line let him down.

@@ishmaelwilliams842 if you watch the my breakdowns of the offense the hot reads you guys are talking were majority non-existent. All the hot reads were missed by the receivers. I go into detail about how the hot reads are communicated from receiver to QB. Most passing concepts were 15 yards deep even on 3rd and 6, 3rd and 7. When your O-line is struggling to block a 4-man rush we did not call any short passing concepts to off set the blitzing. Watch the breakdown and you will see. This whole season Milroe was running for his life. If we don't fix the O-line we're going 6-6 next season. because we don't have the QB run threat.

@@ishmaelwilliams842 preciate it. I truly understand the frustration and easiest thing to do is blame the QB and OC. I agree with the OC being part of the problem because he really put us in some bad situations regarding the inconsistency of our O-line. I started doing the film analysis from the beginning of the season because when you're tired and exhausted from a long season your bad habits are going to show because when you're tired the first thing to go is your technique and fundamentals. We have been playing like this since Western Kentucky which is the same reasons why we lost to Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Michigan. All 3 teams are well-defensive coached teams.
