I think that this and the BYD Shark could be game changers for Australia. I think most of us are not ready to go full EV but would like the much cheaper running costs. To me a PHEV makes total sense. I can either charge it in the day from my solar panels or if the sun isn't shining it can charge it at night on a cheap EV electricity tariff. As long as I can get about 70km's of EV range then almost all of my driving will be electric. On the times when I want to travel further, piece of cake. Just flick the switch to hybrid mode and I've got 1000+km range from a single tank of fuel. I also love the fact that it'll do VTL so when the power goes out, I'll plug the house into the car. Problem solved.

The big downside to having the engine, is the complexity, the weight, carrying fuel, and batteries and having to service/ being tied to the dealer still. We just drove from Bargara east of Bundaberg to Brisbane on one charge. We had done Brisbane to Gladstone and back, cost $18 in supercharging fees, we lost a total of 30mins on the road due to charging (which I had to rush back to the car for). (We over night charged at Tannum sands and bargara where we stayed). For most people, the need to have extreme range fades away when you start thinking about how often people drive 400km in one go. Most people haven’t considered the idea of overnight charging and or topping up with just enough charge so you can get home - and then continue the charge at home or your destination, (often

I took the Sealion 6 Premium for a test drive and would say your review is very accurate. Compared to the Seal, I liked that this had an integrated shade for the panoramic roof (not so fussed that the sunroof opened - just something to leak over time), but the seats lack any lumbar support adjustment. The integrated instrument panel rather than the “tablet” style of the Seal is also better in my opinion. One thing I did notice on my drive was a low frequency resonance in the cabin at highway speeds. A kind of thrumming noise. Possibly caused by the choice of tyres. It was something I told the dealer I wouldn’t be able to live with. Hopefully it is only the tyres, because otherwise this is great car for the price. Then keep driving but in HEV until your trip meter is at 200km. Fill up with 95RON and note battery percentage. Give us how many litres used and how many kWh used let me do the maths please. Foolhardy to say the SL6 only uses about 1 litre extra per 100km without quantifying it with a real world test. Especially as all litres used cost circa ten percent more each per litre. Five litres of 91 @$1.80/l is $9.00 if this SL6 quotes 1.4l/100km but achieves 5.6l @$2/l is $11.20 or 24.4% more expensive to drive 'x metres'. Plus all electricity depleted from the battery. BTW 425l is the boot size which is smaller than Atto 3! Load is limited in SL6 to about 410kg (33% less) compared to 605kg for Outlander PHEV which is SL6 nearest and best selling market leader of this niche.

I was reading the owners manual and saw that it is able to generate power when a low State of Charge is detected. Has anyone tried this for VTOL car camping or emergency situation? If this is viable then with some napkin math the Sealion 6 Power storage capacity would be around 18.3kwh + 30%*(60L x 8.9kwh/l) = 178.5kwh.

The change in name from Seal to Sea Lion might indicate that BYD is considering sending the new Qin L PHEV sedan to Australia in the future, since it is also sold in China as the Seal 06. If you like sedans, the Seal 06 is easily the most efficient mid size sedan in the world right now, getting into the 2.x L/100km in city driving.

this is enticing to say the least. But how may the maintenance of this may be? Is it as high as other hybrids? I've heard it doesn't have a gearbox. Really contemplating on this one.

VW sells the Tiguan PHEV for 49k euros in Europe, if this goes across sea ain't no way it's going to cheaper than 50k usd. The limited run RAV 4 Prime also was above 50k (yes i know msrp was lower but demand was so high and car dealers were upcharging people). This without a doubt don't have a proper competitor.

The Model in the Video, in Germany called the BYD Seal U DMi Design, costs 44500€ including VAT, and is in my opinion much nicer than the Tiguan.

The emergence of this car in China, which accounts for one-third of the global automotive market, quickly pushed the previously best-selling German and Japanese cars into a corner. The current sales of these models have sharply declined by more than 65%, and their prices have also dropped by more than 40%. Even the prices of second-hand cars from these brands have collapsed.

That's my main concern with BYD and other brands new to Australia - what's their spare parts inventory like and what is their company ethos re warranty and support? Brands like VW and Ford have terrible reputations here for appalling customer service.

if you are comparing it to a RAV4 other car companies are in trouble !!!!!! maybe thats why Toyota is working with BYD. i just purchased 400 shares of BYD motors even tho i'm not into EV's or plug-in hybrids and i have a 2022 Toyota Venza and actually the sealion looks like my Venza. i think theirs no limit to where BYD is going thats why i spent 25,000 dollars on 416 share because i believe BYD will make me rich.

@@GDM22 and put it where? Does the boot liner come out to fit a spare? If so, why not provide that as standard for all?
@GDM224 ай бұрын
@@Mububban23 I certainly don't need a spare around the city, so why would I want to pay for one as part of the purchase price. Plenty of new cars now only provide a tyre repair kit, I have watched numerous youtube videos of aftermarket spare tyre kits being reviewed. If you go on a longer drive and you are worried pack it in and yes there are some EVs that do fit a space saver spare under the boot shelf, so don't take space awy from the normal boot area. If a spare is important for you look elsewhere.

Yep, I had that problem in the Atto 3. The headrest would dig into my shoulders, then tried the Dolphin and had no such problems as the headrest was just ever so slightly taller! It would be interesting to see if the Seal or this also has this problem. I am 188cm tall

Japanese cars are more expensive not because of build quality or materials, as we all know they are glued together plastic junks. They are expensive because consumers have no choices.
