In SA we rather compare the Scorpio-N against the lower spec 2.4 Fortuner or even a 2nd hand 2.8 Fortuner with high mileage. Even more of a tricky comparison. Great comparison guys! About the leather seats, I think the main reason for faux leather is to keep the costs down and make it more affordable. The SUV has a lot of kit at the price point with 4Wd and off road modes and carplay that some cars still don't get standard.

In Thailand and Philippines and in India the Fortuner sells quite a lot mostly because there isn't quite a competition for this segment of cars which offers the Fortuner like running cost in long run (less resort repair costs) and in the context of the youtuber that there are more better off-roaders in our world actually doesn't mean that there are better off roaders in those developing markets such as Thailand, Philippines & India there are not many better options than the Fortuner in these countries except for India which has the Mahindra Scorpio.

Here in India, I drove a Mahindra MPV - rear wheel drive for 11 years. Did numerous mumbai - Delhi round trips. Did a 5000 km round trip to the first village on the India - Tibet border driving past mountain passes as high as 15500 feet above sea level. The Mahindra did not give us any trouble even once. Crossed every hurdle amazingly. Was our home for a many days of the trip. Mahindra vehicles are fantastic and reliable family assets. These Japanese charge a massive premium for their reliable engines on vehicles which give much lesser in terms of features and comfort. Close your eyes and go for the Mahindra if you want to get massive value for your dollars.

In India, the problem with the fortuner isnt that it is a bad car mechanically, its the pricing. Toyota prices this car insanely high (60,00,000 INR which is around 110k AUD). Some say that is because of the taxes, some say Toyota are just enjoying having no competition in the segment. Whatever the reason might be, it is heavily overpriced. The actual car is mechanically sorted, the ride is a bit harsh but every part in the car is built to last. Just the pricing that is the fly in the ointment. Personally, i would never buy a fortuner for that kind of money, I'd rather buy the scorpio for half the price and invest the rest.

Scorpio n doesn't have many cup holders because here wont drink coffee or tea in large paper cups like in west. we stop drink and move on. we needed water bottle storages and it has them..designed for india.❤

Not using leather is not because of Cows being sacred in India. It's because leather is expensive and many customers in India don't like leather because leather eventually withers and creates a smell which is not likeable. I can corroborate this because India is a major producer of leather in the world. And most leather is made from Buffalo skin anyway, not cow.

Fortuner is definitely a status symbol in my country 😂 you also need to be abusive with your high beam and blind oncoming traffic, overtake like there is no tomorrow, squeeze into traffic like you drive a mini. Then I tried getting on in one, I get the feeling. Its like being on a sedan but lifted 😅 so maybe that is why... 😂😂😂 Plus most owners make their cars their personality so nope, not getting on that bandwagon 😊😊😊
