Man I love this I still have mine that I got as a kid and I have the motor kit that you could get for it to motorise all the functions. I would love to build this as a large kit like you have it brings back so many memories.

I had that one as a kid. Also had the LEGO 956 Auto Chassis. Now that would be a challenge to build!

Yeah 956 was a great kit! And would be a huge challenge!! 😬

It would be interesting to see if you could embed a linear rail inside of the smooth parts, that would at lest allow them to move.
@MattDenton4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure something would be possible...

Idea: How about a worm screw for the bucket mechanism? They also exist in LEGO, are black and it should fit inside the front.

Its a possibility.

Ultra Cool... and totally amazing to see! As a old Lego model fan whom has a huge collection of the Pre-2000 bought Technic Lego.. I am really stunned how well you done! A great use for 3D print tech.. so lovely that Lego should make these as real Lego sets maybe though 3 times size than this 5 times. with Lego's robotic factory system they could just either do bigger 3D printers or just bigger Lego injection modding of the original Lego Bricks.

Matt, once again this is so cool! I also had this toy as a child wanting to understand engineering along with the car chassis! You need your own museum and class room! I'm in the USA and this would be a great STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) program! I wonder if there is a way to make molds to save on the time 3D printing using recycled plastics. The only problem would be working out the tolerances due to plastic shrinkage.
@MattDenton4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah Lego technic taught me loads. I would love to exhibit the pieces on a museum one day.

First of all...kudos my god Sir. What a great job you did. About the rack and pinion Problem. How about an linear guiderail hidden underneath the Parts sort of?
@MattDenton6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah that could work. I was trying to solve it without ruining the looks. So that could be an option. I’m currently playing with linear drives..

You can hide a linear ram inside the central frame, leaving the lifting mechanism as is, exposed and non functional..

cant you mask one engine as the bottom gear for the lifter and leave the rest of the gear box as is then you'd have to only figure out wire routing.

Matt, what you do is f...... amaaaaazing!!! :) Unbelieveable!!! Please go on with this crazy stuff and hopefully LEGO won´t stop you! Completely excited about the idea I started my 3D printer yersterday, also printing huge LEGO blocks! :) One question ... I started with the 2by1 technic block with the hole in the middle. Mine is 80x40x47mm. Can you tell me your dimensions of that block? Thanks you!!! Norman
@MattDenton4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Norman. What scale are you printing at? I'm guessing 5x as that would be 40mm wide. My previous projects were that scale. This one is slightly bigger!
@normannick98774 жыл бұрын
@@MattDenton I grabbed the models in the Wavefront format out of the LeoCAD Software ( Freeware ) they have a lot of ready made CAD LEGO Models in it. I imported it into CURA and gave each model a scale of 200%, so that finaly these dimensions came out. What do you think? Is that a good way to start a first project? Now I have 7 bricks ready and they have a ggod - snug fit ;)
