Lifting 3 years and it took me 2 years to deadlift 200kg. This video is proof that manual labourers are strong as hell. I actually worked on a building site 1 day last year and I physically couldn't do it. Like... I had to take rests climbing tools up the stairs and they got annoyed that I was going missing but I was literally dead. They're tougher men than I am. It's a brutal job they partake in.

I love it. I work like this after a background in athletics, martial arts, dog grooming, and as a mover. Controlling awkward loads and moving loads with dogs and people builds insane strength. Even on job sites, my combination of the two gained me a reputation for autistic strength. Get bags of concrete. Super cheap, but the heaviest 50 or 90 pounds you will ever lift. 70.4 pounds of Floppy 4x8ft 5/8ths Drywall pushed tight to the ceiling with your head and one hand while you screw in with the other. Its absolutely insanity if you do it 8 hours a day every day. I love my paid workouts.

I am a builder as well and have been for 30 years now .. Deadlift never really been part of my weight training.. Last I tried I did around 140kg but stopped there as I felt my form starting to brake. Builders normally dont lift many heavy things but we lift tons of weight everyday and over the years 10-30 years the str will add up .. I would estimate I do 10-12k steps a day and move 3-5Tons on a normal workday started at 17 47 now .. But ya the level on this building sight was high =) Now go to a office building and repeat it . =)

I have a story similar to this. I was at a friend's house many years ago. He had a weight set with a barbell and 300lbs. We would pull it out of his garage and lift in his backyard. His neighbor was a very unassuming older man, probably late 50s or early 60s. He did hard manual labor his entire life but was now retired. One day we were outside doing some power cleans with something like 245lbs. I don't recall the exact weight. His neighbor, with who we were friendly and chatted all the time, was watching us and asked one of us if we could pick it up with one hand. We all tried, and none of us could. He came over and proceeded to deadlift the weight over and over with one hand easily. It was impressive for an unassuming older man to lift the weight that easily. Guys that do manual labor their whole life have a different kind of strength compared to regular guys. Especially grip strength.

Awesome video man, as a tradesmen that works out regularly, iknew there was plenty of tradesmen I’d seen on sites that would outlift anyone at my local gym. You should go round job sites and find some hidden freaks. The “Swole Smoko” series

We were in Florida last year and this guy with amazing muscles was trying to get the lugs off his wheel with a tire iron. He was struggling. My wife said help that man get his tire off. The man laughed, and said yeah. Like he couldn't do it so there's no way I was going to do it. I grabbed the lug wrench and loosened the lugs for him. He was standing there looking at me, then looked at his lug wrench. I could see the disbelief in his eyes. I said, I was raised on a tobacco farm. We have freakish strength 😂

That's that Workingman's strength. Another commenter's suggestion to replicate this challenge in an office setting is a great one -- just have the waiver ready for them to sign hahah. Also, at least bump up the reward to £500. Or at the very least £100 and a six-pack of beer. These guys deserve it.

Their technique seems way to perfect for doing deadlifts the first time. Either they were instructed and had time to prepare days/weeks in advance or they do deadlifts in the gym.

@@MattDoesFitness bruh, we know these weights are in ibs, not Kg. A lot of your fans here seem impressionable so your vid is doing well. I'm a builder, I train strength 4 times a week, I know the general strength range. I understand why you've done it, it would have been a short video if the weights were kg's, most of them would've pulled out around the 80-90kg range.

Labourer's Olympics, used to do strength feats on site, a good one is shouldering bags of cement, sand or plaster ( same weight 25k/55lb bags). my record was 4 bags lifted from the floor to the shoulder and walked up a ladder to the top deck of the scaffold at 90k bodyweight, not seen anybody do that lol. I can still shoulder the above at 54 years old but not up ladders. Another one was carrying 2 heavy duty 3'x2' flagstones 30 yards to the back off a property and cleaning and pressing 30 flag stones 150lb and walking 50 yards to the back off a property. Labouring strength is real

Plus I know lifting anything heavy can be affected by repetitive strain injury which I seem to have a lot of. And looking after the back aswell. Often my body feels much younger, and often much much older. But dint forget in life in strength and keeping strong, its not about how hard you can hit, but get hit and keep going.
