I think they were better in the 90's, before they created the official "Disney Princess" brand and were individual releases coinciding with their theatrical releases/re-issues. Though the biggest appeal to me with the Mattel Princess dolls is that they could wear Barbie fashions without looking weird.

Here we have to say that every Dollline was better back than. Look at Barbie. Quality Clothes and a Bunch of Accessoires. Now little to no accessoires and Clothes that are pronted on cheap fabric. Honestly, I only like the Disney Store Disney Princess dolls. Both the modern Mattel Disney Princess dolls and the Hasbro ones feel so cheap in comparison to the Disney store ones, especially in outfit quality, articulation, and face mold accuracy. I know the Disney Store ones tend to sell out faster and become more rare, but if you can get your hands on them (people who live close to a Disney Store are so lucky and have such an advantage with this), they are completely worth it and look just like the characters, whereas the Hasbro and Mattel ones feel cheap, lazy, and don't completely resemble the characters.
@announced79643 жыл бұрын
Kinda funny really, folks who collects the Disney store one will tell you that Disney version cheapens overtime as well, the outfits will never get into the same quality as the first release for the playline, their only saving grace is the dolls resemble the character a lot more (As I said, *resemble* , because Disney cant ever get the Princesses face right for the 90s and the before Princesses correct, Rapunzel's face til today never even resembled her face in the original movie, not even her body match the character by even the tiniest comparison, weirdly *only* Mattel has gotten the perfect sculpt for Aurora's face in their final release of the character in doll form), as well as the LE dolls being way more expensive than they need to be

I figured Disney didn't want other doll makers making better dolls than them. The quality on Mattel's dolls was 70000 times better than Hasbro's. Even the cheapest lowest quality mattel princesses look stunning next to the budget hasbro princesses. Hasbro dolls have the worst hair quality EVER, at least you can wash the glue and the gel out of the mattel dolls and the hair will look breathtakingly stunning, while Hasbro's cheap nylon is unfixable. And don't get me started on the outfits!!! Hasbro uses ridiculously cheap fabrics, Mattel's fabrics aren't great either but at least they have more than one cheap layer of cheap fabric and MAYBE some cheap tool. Hasbro's dolls are really fragile too. I personally despise Hasbro's face and body molds, they are WAY too cartoonish for me. Also i actually LOVE Mattel's dreamy pretty pink sparkley princess asthetic, Hasbro's asthetic just seems really tacky to me, but that's definitely more of a preference thing than a quality thing.
@UnicornRainbowsToysandDolls3 жыл бұрын
All of this is exactly what I was thinking! You can get the glue out of the Mattel hair but the Hasbro hair is the absolute worst. I agree about the Hasbro faces with the Ralph Breaks the Internet/Comfy Princesses being the most terrible - they all look shocked/stunned! Also with the Mattel dolls, they can wear Barbie clothes! With the Hasbro dolls, they can barely even share clothes with each other because they made all the body sizes different, but only just enough to be annoying and unable to swap clothes. I hope Mattel gets the princesses back.

Mattel didn't use to put glue inside of doll heads, they only started doing that after the mid 2000's to save money, back in the day barbies had their hair sewn/braided on the inside of their heads, they made the switch to save money, and after many complains about dolls having sticky hair and turning yellow over time apparently they've fixed that issue, I don't think they stopped using glue completely but apparently their current dolls don't have the same issue these gals did

I have the 1990's Belle and then a Disney store 2020 Belle. I love them both. While 2020's is more movie accurate in the face, I liked the semi-realistic face of the 90's Belle as well because not only can she wear Barbie clothes, but she came with both the blue village dress and the gold-yellow ball gown. I am not a fan of any of the Hasbro Belle dolls except for the comfy squad dolls. Great video.

I really like all of the dolls that you reviewed

You should look at the 2013 Signature Collection by Mattel and the 90s Signature Collection that was a Collector line or the basic ones from the 90s

I collect a lot of the 90s/early 2000s Mattel Disney doll head since they have this subtly to them that's really nice but still accurate. I end up rerooting and rebodying them though because the hair quality and lack of articulation is a damper for me.

My sisters had some of the late 90’s Disney princesses, Belle and Jasmine, if I recall. They were pretty good.

I have a rapunzel and its a matel. She had wire in her hair for style. Also has molded clothing and i hated it so i put on a jacket over it and gave her pants instead of the skirt. Looking at the matel sparkling Princess version of her, mine has a barbie face but the other sparkling version has a sweeter face and it's rounder than the one I have.

Ok buttttt, THE 90S was the peak for Mattel’s Disney dolls. It’s just not debatable.
