I've owned S, T, and F models. To me the X100T is the best version. Image quality is already great. No need for focus joystick added in the F version. No need for ISO selection dial. I had one button to switch between 200 and auto ISO and it covered 99.9% of my needs.

This was such a great comparison! I've been shooting with the X100 since it came out and only had the itch for an upgrade recently. No matter what gen you have, the X100 is such a great camera to shoot with. I can't wait to see what the fifth gen will be like.

Hi, 👋 so, I’ve got this x100s ( U$ 750) who seems to be really conserved, and then there’s this x10 wich seems to be new too, and it costs U$ 512. So, I wanted to save some money if I could, since my daddy isn’t at the best conditions right now, do you think the x100s is worthy the price in comparison to the x10s? Sorry I’m new at photography 🤧

I’ve been using the S since 2014 and it’s the one and only camera that I’ve missed when I forgot to bring it with me when I travel. I also think that with the old lens, 16MP is the sweet spot, which is also why I didn’t go for the F when it came out. I bought the V a few days ago and I absolutely love the tilting screen and the sensor/lens combination. Also, weather sealing means I won’t have to worry about it in the rain. It is the ultimate refinement for the classic X100 series in 2020. I will be keeping both since I really like the characteristics of the S’s sensor/lens combination, and I do agree with you that if I have a limited budget and can only get one of them, it would be the S.

I've got the S and love it. The 16M sensor doesn't expose the flaw of the lens. Also it doesn't require higher shutter speed to combat camera shake. This is one of my cameras that I don't feel any need to upgrade.

I think you forgot to mention that the x100v is the first one which got weather sealing. This might be a big deal for some. The weather sealing, the bigger battery, resolution, lens and tilting screen made me upgrade from x100t to x100v. But I don't like the OLED viewfinder.

Good point re the weather sealing mate this and the flip screen to save the old knees a bit would be my main justifications for upgrading from the incredible F.

I sort of have a love-hate relationship with the x100 series. I bought an S, then sold it. Felt bad so bought another one. Used it on and off then upgraded to an F and eventually sold it. The advantage of the F was the batteries are the same as my X-T2 and X-H1 as well as major upgrade in focusing.. Fortunately I bought them used as they tend to plummet in value. It's almost worth it for the leaf shutter flash advantages alone which are awesome. I finally decided that I don't "see the world" in the 35mm construct like most people claim and that the 50mm equiv seems to be the ticket, at least in my view. I wasn't enamored with the teleconverter, may as well just have an interchangeable lens camera. So I decided to use the proceeds to buy the 35mm f1.4 for my X-H1 and pocket the remaining cash for now. It's been happily bolted to the camera for awhile now and that's working out well. Who knows, maybe I'll get bit by the 100 bug again down the road..

This. I don’t know what it is but the X-Trans II is my favorite sensor. I’ve owned many Fuji bodies but the X-E2 (which my son just inherited) and my new (to me) X100T (replacing my ‘lost’ X-E2) make gorgeous JPEGs. I like the others but that II is my favorite. I also own the X-H1 .. oh that shutter mechanism.. but still prefer colors from the X-Trans II.

I'm a former Canon user. I bought my first Fuji last year. It was a Finepix S1 that I got for a great price. As much as I love the camera, I've already found myself pushing some of it's limits. I appreciate your breakdown of the X100 series, as it's helping me learn more about the unique models that Fuji has made for the photography community. I've used cameras with flip out LCDs before. Once you use one, the flexibility it offers you makes it difficult to go back to fixed LCDs. I also like weather resistant cameras, as I do a lot of outdoor photography (I also sometimes grab the camera to take macro shots with my grubby hands, while I'm in the workshop).

Interesting choice. I own a X100S for several years now and I love it. Never really wanted to upgrade, until the X100V came out. The decision isn't made yet, because it is a lot of money and I do not really need it. But I'd appreciate the higher resolution and the tilting screen might be a really useful option too. Well, I think I will rent one and try it. A really great comparison by the way!

Hi Matt...long time follower. Love your content! I’ve had my S since it was first released and it’s by far my most used camera. The 4 way controller wheel became unresponsive/glitchy so I sent it into Fuji for repair. I spoke with them earlier today...since it’s and older model and they no longer have parts, they offered me a brand new X100T as a replacement for $390. I jumped at the offer! Thought this might be useful for someone out there with an older model looking to upgrade. Happy New Year!

I bought an X100F in December 2019 to replace an aging Sony digital camera. I'm used to 35 mm film SLR's but wanted a handy small high quality 'carry around' camera when I didn't want to carry around a bulky SLR with a bagful of lenses. At first I was daunted and confused by the plethora of features and controls on the exterior of the camera but now that I've become more accustomed to it I really like it..especially the built-in film simulations and built-in neutral density filter. And the non-interchangeable lens is not really an impediment for me..I find myself concentrating on composition and the built-in digital 'short zoom' capability is fine for my purposes. The only complaint I have is the placement of the 'Q' button; I've pressed it accidentally with my thumb on numerous occasions at a critical moment but that is a function of simply keeping in mind where I place my right thumb when grasping the camera. Other than that a wonderful photographic instrument I have no regrets at laying out the cash for it. And it simply looks 'retro cool'..reminds me of the classic film rangefinder cameras. The X100V came out the month after I bought my X100F..I don't feel slighted at the least that I didn't wait for the new model.

I had the F and jumped on the V without hesitation. Even in landscapes and well stopped down the old lens didn't have a chance againts the new one which is visibly better even on moderately sized prints. Lens- and sensor-perfomance really have a love-affair again in the V and you can just shoot along knowing that the optical quality will hardly ever let you down under any circumstances.

I don't mind the tilt screen of the V. What bugged me about the V was the removal of the D-Pad. Sure touch screens are nice for touch to focus, but I use my camera up to my face, and tapping isn't very useful. I know you can program the touch screen for swipes, but I rather press a button instead of swiping for my presets. That's why I'll keep my x100F a little longer instead of upgrading.

Absolutely, I find the D-Pad gives you a lot of useful costumisation options for auto-ISO settings, white balance, continous shooting and so on. With the removal of the D-Pad Fuji limited the options of the X100V.

Unless you really need the tilt screen for waist shooting, the weather sealing, or better lens for up close, I think the F is the one to buy right now if you can hunt for a deal. I’ve had the S, T and F and I’d say the T is the sweet spot. It’s way speedier than the S and for me the Wi-Fi capability is essential given that I shot with the film simulations and post to social media mostly. One advantage of the F is greater crop-ability due to those extra megapixels, but the Q button drives me crazy (so easy to accidentally click) and you can’t turn it off.

Forget 'street' - not sure what that is anyway - this is the best 'documentary' camera ever - we use two 100V's to compliment our GFX's on wedding/fashion and portrait shoots - or at least we did until COVID-19 threw a spanner - The new V is a vast improvement on the entire series and the strange little converters work surprisingly well now. No need for fiddly adjustments in menus. On and off and useable in no time. It gets into places the GFX's can't, is discreet and utterly joyful to use. Thanks for this little overview Matt - stay safe.

I've still got the original X100 which I bought new when it first came out. It's a great little street camera but the only thing that really bugged me was that it was so easy to knock the Exposure Compensation Wheel just by taking the camera out of the case. I thought at the time that it would have been so easy to have a lift and turn type wheel so you don't change the setting accidentally and not notice until reviewing the shots. Did they ever change that design in later models?

I agree with you. I have owned the x100, s, T, and F. I LOVED the x100, but it was just too slow! The s was awesome and sometimes I wish I hadn't traded it in for the T. There was something about the image quality with the s that was magic and not repeated in the following versions. I sold the T and bought the F, which I wasn't intending to do but a friend of mine really wanted my camera. I like the F a LOT. I have never noticed a problem with the lens. At least VERY rarely. The V doesn't attract me too much. I prefer the silver version. One thing you didn't mention is a Thumb Rest. I bought one for the x100 and it really made a big improvement for me. Unfortunately, as little as they changed the body between versions, I had to buy a new Thumb Rest for each camera. I do like the new battery that they came out with in the F, I think, or was it the T? It lasts me all day. I have LOTS of cameras, but I keep coming back to the x100f especially for street, family, events, especially events or venues where you want to NOT be noticed, It is very low key, but also the most beautiful camera I have ever owned. Nice review. I might eventually get the V, but right now I'm still loving my F.

I have the X100S, since it first came out and love it. I then bought an XE1 and a 27mm pancake. Out of the two I still tend to use the X100S - for me there is just something about the "image" that comes from this compared to the XE1 with the 27mm. Will I be upgrading? - no love what my X100S does.

Thanks for such an informative comparative guide. It confirmed that I’m right in concentrating my search on the X100S or possibly the X100F.

I've currently got the S. It's a fantastic walkaround camera that can take a little beating being put into my work bag or backpack. I'm very tempted by the V, though. Thanks for this comparison!

Great comparison! I've own a 100S from 2020, and the quality and practicality for every day shooting is fantastic for me. My 12yo daughter also loves it!

I owned the original and then the F. If I could own another x100, I would try to get the original again. That first sensor had some magic to it.

How about the AF? Is there any issues bout it?
@SunshineHB
@SunshineHB 3 жыл бұрын
@@freddjensen9556 It isn't great… Especially compared to the newer X100s. Totally useable, though. If I were shooting street style, I would use zone focusing. The best AF in a small camera I have ever used was the Leica Q.

I would definitely choose the V-it has the latest film simulations, which is one of the best reasons to shoot Fuji, plus I frequently wished my X-E3 had a tilting screen, so theres that too. Plus weather sealing. Also, USB-C. I hate micro USB...

Cracking review Matt, I've loved this system since buying a used original in 2012, unfortunately that developed the SAB issue and Fuji wouldn't do the free repair as I didn't have the receipt. So bit the bullet and bought a new T, this thing blew my mind I loved it literally to death, drowning it in a freak flash flood. Replaced with the F which I still use and adore. I sorely want to upgrade to the V just because it's shiny and new, but TBH at this moment in this crazy world I cant see a rational reason to upgrade. The F still produces the goods consistently without an issue. As a press photographer I lug around a full heavy canon kit all day so on my down time this wee but mighty fujifilm system is an absolute joy to use. The vast majority of the stills in the videos on my channel are shot with the X100 system it really never lets me down. New subscriber for you mate.

I just picked mine up for $900 in Silver 10/10 condition with the manuals, box, and extra accessories. Such a beautiful camera. I was going to get the X100V but the price is not worth it and I really like the D-Pad on the F because they remove the D-Pad in the V.

I chose the X100V because of the improved lens. I do not like the idea of a lens that it is markedly soft wide open or close up. The weather/dust sealing was an important consideration, too.

I think I'd like the X100VI, where they add some form of stabilisation for low-light shooting at low ISO/low movement (Museums, etc.) and to use all the video capabilities they added in the V (but need a Tripod or Gimbal to take much advantage of).... (Ricoh did IBIS with an APS sensor in the considerably smaller GR3, so maybe licence the tech?) P.S. That assumes they don't do what they did with the latest XPro and design it to only work in limited ways, as that's how they want you to shoot...

Matt: Your video is THE best comparison available today, IMHO. Following your arguments, really any of these from the S onwards, is worth buying today, and they are distinguished perfectly in the used market by each's price differential. Perhaps the S is the best value overall. In the past, I had both the original and the S and made many memorable images with both. The "soft wide open" problem is overblown; certainly it never spoiled any of my shots and I usually shot at ƒ2 or 2.8. The ND filter is excellent and the built-in flash is amazing for fill.

Lovin' the X100F (brown) with the add on WCL lens (28mm equivalent). I was disappointed that the V doesn't have the D pad. I use the D pad to map frequently used settings. The tilt screen isn't a big deal to me as I shoot the X100F like a film camera, often from the hip, and later look at images in the coffee shop. Just my style I guess.

Images from the original 100 keyed me in to Fuji to begin with. I got a 100S, and that hooked me. I'd NEVER seen such versatility in a single camera, and it was small -- and loved the images. That moved me to switch 100% from Canon to Fuji. I was heartbroken when my 100S was stolen -- and I immediately got a new one, the 100F. I'd easily give up every camera I own to keep my 100F.

Stolen?! I hate people, who steal gear. Seriously, that shit is expensive and we work hard for it. I got threatened by some robber in Berlin once. Pulled the knife and wanted the stuff in my pockets. I only had my X100 with me. The robber was so disgusted. Quote: "You can't even buy a digital camera?! Sucker...." And left me, standing there. I laughed the whole way home, because everyone, literally EVERY person, who speaks up to me because of the X100 thinks, its an old analoge camera. Saved my life that day, I guess. 😂😅
