I'd be interested to see this camera tested with the 400mm f/4.5 for wildlife photography. It would be interesting to see how it compares to a full frame camera with a 600mm f/6.3. On paper, it would make a lot of sense to have a smaller and lighter camera and lens with comparable low light performance, but with this camera's lackluster specs, it might be a bit of a disappointment. It's a pity Fujifilm doesn't make such a lens!
@keithholland4322Күн бұрын
I hear what you're saying, and I would love to see Nikon make a mirrorless D500 replacement, but until they do, serious APSC shooters will keep on shooting Fujifilm, not Nikon. And if Nikon is waiting for Fujifilm users to ditch their high end APSC cameras and f/1.2 lenses to buy wannabe Nikon gear, they're going to be waiting a long time! So I really don't know who this camera is for.
@mattgrangerКүн бұрын
Fair enough! The focus on this is way better and the software more stable, than any interchangeable lens fuji I have used in the past 4 years, FYI
@keithholland4322Күн бұрын
@@mattgranger Well, that would have been worth mentioning in your video! Maybe once the production model is released you can make a video comparing it to the X-H2 or X-T5, possibly using some full frame f/1.2 lenses. I would also love to see you compare the Z50 II with a 400mm f/4.5 to a Nikon full frame camera with a 600mm f/6.3 for wildlife photography since that's one area where a true D500 replacement would really shine.

I am wondering what is the camera being used to film Matt when he is sitting in the " corner library" setting on set.(side bar the corner library was a refreshing natural and real setting vs the traditional KZbinrs "home studio" look). At any rate that camera is focusing on the wine bottles to his left and back, and is not focusing on his face.

I currently use A1 and A9MKI. As much as I want another A1 to replace my aging A9 I am force to buy the A9III. I shoot a lot of events with speakers in front of led screens and the A1 suffers terrible moire. So much so I leave it in my bag and use my A9. It's a shame as two 50MP A1's would be dream for other work I do

Highly agree with everything said. And I especially would love to see the rx100 and rx0 lines updated. They both desperately need 10 bit 4.2.2 with 4k60 uncropped. The rx0 needs better stabe (which is easy nowadays) a slightly bigger screen wouldn't hurt. Maybe a couple extra mounting points? Obviously better battery life, and like you said better sensor or lens? Not sure. Probably both. The potential of that little guy tho, might be the most exciting prospect and could seriously corner a part of the market that doesn't really truly exist i.e. crash cam size/style with cinema quality abilities (same goes for the rx100 line, but moreso for the rx0 line, due to its ruggedness and waterproofing, and most importantly, it's insane portability)

@Lazarus529803 күн бұрын
G.A.S. is "Gear Acquisition Syndrome" It essentially means that you buy new camera gear out of FOMO (Fear of missing out) or out of a feel that you need to "Keep up" with whatever is new, rather than just buying the things you need to support your business/hobby.

@MHeadroom3 күн бұрын
You’re right Matt. But I just don’t think Nikon will ever do it as they want Z lenses to be purchased moving forward. I stopped waiting, retired my Df and upgraded to the Zf. Excepting my 135f2 DC AF-D lens which I’ll never sell, I’m now exclusively limited to my AFS G lenses used with the ZF adapter and I’ve retired my AF-D 50mm 1.4 for a new Z50mm 1.8s. Also sold my AF-D 85mm 1.8. Unless I’m really wanting to limit myself to manual focus only I really see no case for using my AF-D 50 or AF-D 85 anymore. That’s progress I guess and we just need to move with the times. Having said that, my old AF-D 50mm 1.4 is really no match for the sharpness, overall optical focus and auto focus speed that the new z50mm 1.8S brings to user satisfaction coupled with the Zf. It’s the way of the world and unfortunately we opt in to the Nikon ecosystem and all its evolution/revolution in technical terms and improved performance.

On some cameras, like mine, turning on AF+MF to permit manual focusing forces me to abandon focus priority when using continuous focusing (increasing the quantity of OOF pictures since the camera shoots whether or not it has a focus lock). Also once manually focusing, I have to release, and then hit AF-ON again to re-initiate auto focus (the camera rightly or wrongly holds the focus depth I've set). This is about as clumsy as trying to focus on a nearby object, and then attempt to re-acquire the subject. I'd prefer to use "manual assist", where the camera doesn't fight me when I start turning the rings but "knows" it is close to/on my target when I stop - then locks on itself. I'm sure I'd need new software rules. For the prices that we have to pay for this developing technology, it would be nice for more manufacturers to continue supporting older hardware for long as possible, or at least adopt some trade-in programs or something to reward us for our loyalty (like some companies do). These aren't supposed to be disposable cameras, after all!

A year later and I still can't get over both the screen and the rubber port covers. The screen should have been an X-Pro3 style flip down screen so you can still hide it. The port covers are just annoying and chintzy. I want to buy it so badly, but it'd just frustrate me dealing with the screen every day let alone the port covers...
