I'm thinking that if he keeps up this gritty character run of his, he'll keep doing well. He's always shone when he's doing dark and gritty, but he's never looked the part. Now that he's older, he's being picked for the parts he's suited for.

He actually talks about it. He said in order to get to the good movies he had to go from the romantic comedies. He never said he didn't enjoy it (cause hes a nice guy) but the way he expresses himself shows he did it to gain attention to one day get to the good movies

Another thing is, some actors just look better when they are a bit older. MC is one of them. Now he does not need impress the public with the baby face look, so he can play great roles. And I hope there will be next season with them both.

jay poma That's the thing. The writer and everyone else working with the project sees it as an episodic film. And I guess having main characters leave, and maybe (just maybe) let other top class actors come in. Since they're afraid of getting stuck in the same role, True Detective won't let that happen.

I saw him in Reign of Fire, alongside Christian Bale, in 2002, and back then is when I knew this guy had talent. Might not have been received as a great movie (although I loved it), but he and Bale were brilliant. Glad to see that after all the years of rom coms, that I wasn't wrong after all. Hes more then made up for it over the last 2-3 years. Amazing actor.

If you get to see just one movie that was up for an award make it "Dallas Buyer Club" . Matthew's performance was truly amazing and well deserving of the Academy award for best actor. I hope he will continue to choose more roles that show off his acting chops and stay away from the Rocom's (romantic-comedies) for awhile. PS: Am loving True Detectives!!

I apologize to Mr. McConaughey for all the snarks I spewed his way five years ago. Despite the great reviews, I nearly passed up "Lincoln Lawyer" based on his previous roles. This man has evolved from a star to an actor. He could easily have turned Ron Woodruff into a sappy, sentimental character, but he didn't. No spoiler, but when he says, "Where's the idiot?" near the end of "Dallas Buyer's Club," I nearly cried.

What a brilliant actor matthew mcConaughey is, very inteligent man aswel. When i look at his class, i think of the golden age of hollywood. All those wonderful actors back then, that is the thought that comes to my mind when watching this man. And i am going to enjoy as much of matthew mcConaughey as i can, as long as he is around. For me he is in the A+ list of actors and has that classy link to a golden age of hollywood actor. Matthew is flying the flag of real good films that draw me in. He is such a commanding presence. I mean ok true detective was a tv series but it knocked me off my feet. So so absorbing. Be so cool to meet matthew and talk in depth with him. This is just my view of the man.
