It's simply disgusting that Bettman doesn't promote the NHL in the states at all. I know he has a radio show where people can ask questions. Does anyone bring this up to him ever?

@@tacotom3492 I'm not a fan of ESPN but they do promote way better then NBC. I remember when the league essentially relaunched in 05-06 there were tons of NHL commercials. Now there is essentially none. You have to promote the stars.

I remember when Patrick Kane was the face of the league back when the Hawks were winning cups, now I feel like the media has found their new favorite Matthew Tkachuk. He’s him. He deserves to be advertised like this. Might become the future face of the league if he keeps this up.

Matthew is also more naturally charasmatic than Patrick Kane ever was (his cues on when to jump in in this interview and hilarious quips were perfectly timed). If only the Panthers actually played in Miami instead of 45 minutes up the road in Fort Lauderdale I think it would make things that much better lol

@@thomascomeau9545 It's the entertainment business. A lot of the NBA's popularity comes from the off court drama (like which NBA player is dating which Kardashian, etc.). You need to sell your product in order to engage new and casual fans and the personalities and storylines of the teams and athletes are a big selling point at drawing people in and enticing people to watch the game.

Hockey isnt as popular as something like soccer becuase its harder to get into. Way more equipment and access needed than other sports.

As an Oilers fan, I don't need to write why I did not like him on his previous team. Now that he is on a different team, it is easier to cheer for Matthew. The league needs players like him to help grow the game. Not only is he elite, Matthew is not shy to share his personality.

Panthers have been playing what I call free hockey, their playing unafraid of making mistakes, the goalies confidence spreads like a virus, infecting the players, letting them play without worrying about giving up plays, because they feel the goalie will handle whatever comes his way and he has, their having fun. The Panthers are like the perfect storm of hockey right now.

Coming from a Rangers fan but more importantly a fan of hockey itself, this is great to see. Tkachuk is a phenomenal player in every aspect of the game, glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. Props to TNT for having a great broadcast all season long and doing a great job of marketing star players as seen here. These guys are so incredibly talented and deserve more credit.

they NEED to get Barkley to join the TNT hockey crew on his off nights. He probably has good insights. Basketball is 5 on 5 game played for about the same length, they both play 82 games at the same time of year and need 16 wins in the playoffs over 4 rounds to win it all and a lot of times play in the same arenas. Def the most similarities of all the 5 major team sports.

Having played organized football, basketball, and baseball in highs school and then learning to play hockey and joining a rec league as an adult, hockey by far is my favorite sport to play. Too bad the barrier to entry is so high, otherwise I think it would be more popular.

I don't really follow the NBA(die hard NHL fan) but I will give them credit as they have a lot of good personalities. That is something NHL still lacks both with what is on the ice with the players/coaches and with TV/Studio crews.

When Tkachuk went from the Flames to the Panthers I thought he was going to fade into obscurity because the Panthers are generally a team that few people pay attention to...but I couldn't have been more wrong. Heading to South Florida has turned out to be the best thing that's ever happened to him.

This is why it's so good for the NHL & NBA to be on the same networks, cross-promotion. 🙂 Matthew Tkachuk has been THE story of these playoffs, helping guide the Panthers to their deepest playoff run in nearly 3 decades. And he's the type of player both on & off the ice who helps give the league even more 'eyeballs' for sure.

Tkachuk has swag man. Him being in Miami vs Calgary will help grow the game. Bettman talks about growing the game but it takes more than throwing a team in Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, Vegas, or Dallas. They have to be good, and having marketable stars helps. Everybody in Canada knows all these guys, but the problem is Canadians aren't gonna tune into a Panthers vs Knights series. Get some guys like Gretzky or Lindros. It didn't matter that they weren't Americans. They were stars.

For me the problem with Hockey is that it just doesn’t translate as well on TV compared to live unlike basketball. Whenever I visit my relatives in California I make sure to watch atleast 1 Kings and 1 sharks game and I also watch atleast a couple of LA and warriors game and man Hockey live is amazing.

Good for Matthew being on Inside nba. He showed up when when it matters. Unlike the rigged NBA with all the narratives. Bring the Cup to the panthers as the heat don’t know how close out. Heat need a rebuild where as panthers are building.
