Great job on this video! I really liked your approach on decision making using a decision matrix. I'm going to use that in my upcoming options on a career change. Can you talk more about how you worked on your issues with accountability? I'd love to hear more about your strategies you used to make yourself more accountable. It has been easy to lose accountability since working from home.

This video was so rooted and realistic. As a creative in his early years, I found that in 2020/2021 so many self help KZbinrs pushed the narrative to just quit your job without realizing much of their audience aren’t content creators but regular people working normal 9-5s. I really appreciate you mentioning that it took you a long time to get to this decision and that you assessed all of your angles before deciding.

This was inspiring to watch Matthew! I'm at a crossroads now too, having worked with the same company for 10 years. It's fun, rewarding, a great team and more importantly secure (I have a wife and children to support). But over the last two years I've learned that I need to push my limits more if I want to 'succeed'. By succeed I don't just mean monetary value, I mean free time and flexibility on my own journey. I think I'm ready. Nearly ready. 2022 is the year. Thanks for this video Matthew, a very good insight into your journey and similar mindset. I wish you well!

I’m 67 now, and I can say that this is an excellent video for young people developing their independent careers. Solid advice here from Matthew. I wish I could have seen this when I was in my 20s. There was no KZbin then, let alone the Internet! And they were much tougher times, especially for creatives, and for women. I’m hoping young people don’t waste the incredible opportunities they have today, and that they can maintain a belief in their own potential to make a difference.

This is great Matthew, you are probably the only creator on KZbin that makes me pause everything I'm doing when I get a new video notification. Your storytelling has kept improving, your content is inspiring without being dogmatic or pretending to be an expert. You're willing to share your experience, success and failure with us your audience. Being inspired means to me to be empowered by an energy to change behavior, ideas and perspective. You are clearly an inspiration, really happy to see share your journey with us...

Then this video, funnily enough, this is also my 10th year in this dream job, unfortunately, I might leave and the reason is not the same as yours and without the privilege like yours. But I’m grateful that I finally can see my situation clearly because of you. Thanks Matthew.

I came to this video after wondering why I didn’t see you on the Futur panel anymore. I’m also rarely ever inspired to comment. But BRO. This was a masterfully creative video on the introspection and process that brought you both to the crossroads and beyond. We had our own kind of life-changing success story in these past years. Not planned nearly as well as yours, but even still, I saw much of myself in your experience: The burning ache to feed your creative fire, to realize your own value, the need to be challenged, to learn and grow… vs the logic and real-world feasibility of changing jobs when finances and family responsibilities are on the table. Anyway, just know I appreciate the work you’ve put into this story, more than you’ll know. New subscriber for life.

Hi Matt, It's been a long time. I used to leave comments around as "Nick of Time". This was me, only different a yeat ago. I left my job as a malls operation manager here in the Philippines exactly a year ago ago today. I left with no plans, or backups only an idea: "Happiness", and the thought of working as a Virtual Assistant. Although it might have seemed a big jump from where I was in my career, but the jump gave me lots of freedom and after the longest time I felt happy. My salaru increased a couple of times with this jump, at first I quit with no backup jobs nor a lot of money saved up on my account. But the jump, that 'leap of faith' gave me a huge opportunity to reclaim my life. Watching this video, made me reminisce the journey I took and where it led me, with a realization: "I am just warming up." Thanks for making this video!

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my KZbin channel 7 months ago about self development. Now I have 696 subs and > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place. This channel also inspired me to upload my recent videos to share my opinions about the main things that truly impacted the way I live. They're a couple of my most vulnerable videos that I've been hesitant to post for many months because of the fear of being misunderstood but I finally decided to overcome that fear so others can learn from my experience so we can all grow together. They're packed with valuable information about the relationship between a job and happiness.

@@MatthewEncina I sincerely appreciate such kind words! When I was a kid, all I wanted was to have a career that pays well so I can buy whatever I want but now that I’m grown up and went through tons of setbacks from losing tons of people in my life, getting lost in the world with full of life traps, being ridiculed for pursuing my dreams, having so many people tell me that I’m merely wasting my time creating a meaningful content online, and so on, I can say that long-lasting happiness can’t be bought or earned because it comes from within us. I am hoping that you can join me with this endless personal development journey! :)

I really like all of your videos and this is the best one. It makes me thinking to reflect myself, what position I am currently on. I am in the early stage of my career and thinking to start my own freelance/business. Yet I have no experience and thinking it is not the time, after watching this. Being patient and persistent are the keys. I need to build a legacy for myself before I am going solo. Thanks for the inspiration!
