I've been following this series since the beginning and I absolutely love you studio space. You've done an amazing job keeping things modular. Nice idea and execution. Just a couple of suggestions from an architect. You could have put fibreglass batts in between the front and back panels of your movable screens for extra sound deadening. You should have installed levellers on the table in case your floor isn't level. Other than that, top not job and kudos for you dad coming up with the threaded insert idea. Us dad's come in handy sometimes ;)

Thank you for the tips. I considered stuffing the moving walls, but they would add weight, which I wanted to keep to a minimum. I may consider it the future, but perhaps with a more robust base/casters.

You are a genius. My mother-in-law is chaffing at us moving in to take care of her, doesn’t want a workshop anywhere near her place to the point of coming up with excuse upon excuse not to build one outside, but we are building two offices for our counseling and law practices. I might be able to do this with part of my counseling office and not look ridiculous. Only thing I would have liked are the plans you put together. Thanks!

Hello Matthew! I am sure you might disregard this comment but I would like to first start by saying thank you for being such an amazing and influential person in this world. It is no doubt that through your creativity and innovation, you have helped thousands of people achieve their dream office, gaming, or workspace setup. I remember about 5 years ago when I first started renovating my room and organizing my desk setup. I admired the way you would approach your ideas. The planning, the setup, the execution, and the revision. Recently I have seen a lot of social media posts on Instagram reels and Tik tok about peoples set up. It was great at first, as people were sharing their own innovative ideas and unique setups. It felt almost as if a conversation was happening through the sharing of desk setups. When you saw something you liked from someone's set up you could ask them about it and/or implement that in your own setup. Now it feels as if everyone is trying to shove their affiliate link down your throat (In no way am I accusing you of doing this, I simply want to describe what the splurge of "influencers" is causing). It's sad to see the unique setups deteriorate as every popular and "viral" tik tok are those that have a grovemade desk shelf, audio engine speakers, with the most expensive desk. I feel as if everyone's setup has become the identical set up and this is like the motto. "This is what your desk set up should look like if you want it to be nice." Don't get me wrong they are all nice and I don't mean to diss even though it seems like I am. It becomes frustrating when a majority of your viewers who are not wealthy upper-class, coders can't have a setup like that. A realistic setup is maybe a fraction of what these influencers are putting out. I know my cheap Ikea desk won't get the attention and likes of the fancy Sway desk that has a fancy grovemade shelf on it. I'm happy with my $25 amazon desk shelf. I don't blame you at all for this but I feel like you have more of a positive influence on the community. Can we see a budget-friendly video? Can we make a pushback from expensive means the best? I know a lot of those companies are not greed-hungry corporations and the handmade wood products require a lot of skill and labor. Just because someone can't afford a pair of brand sneakers, does that make him any less of a person?
@MatthewEncina
@MatthewEncina Жыл бұрын
I don't equate expensive with the best. In fact there are no absolutes, just what's right for you. If it helps you do your work, and you're happy, then it's right for you. ✌🏽 "Budget setup" isn't necessarily a good fit for me, and there are plenty of creators who make stuff like this. So as for now, I don't plan to make content like that, but will consider it for the future.

Hi Matthew. Love the woodworking projects besides your other design content. How do you go about organizing your woodworking tools? Which tools do you recommend to build some of things you've built in this channel? Have you done a garage organization video? Thanks for sharing this!
@MatthewEncina
@MatthewEncina Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks. I don't have a garage, and my tools are all kept here. I've linked my tools used in most of my videos if you check the descriptions. I'd say the top two things worth getting are a circular saw with a track (or track saw) and a good power drill. Those are the top two tools I use most often when breaking down and joining pieces together.

Hey Matthew, love the new office. The recently added 4x8 work/design bench coupled with the rollable idea boards look incredibly functional and beautiful. I've been a subscriber for a little over a year now and I've always been astounded by your quick learning when it comes to the design and build process in regards to the woodworking world. I have been a wood worker for the last 20 years now which I mostly enjoy doing as a creative hobby. I also enjoy creative-style ways of thinking in the realm of design, drawing, photography and more recently cinematography. I gotta be honest and say I'm quite envious that you're working close with Ken from Grovemade 😅 but also very happy for you since I see just how much work you've put in to this pursuit (I've only had the pleasure of hearing back from Jeff with Ugmonk in regards to finishing/ polishing techniques with their Analog, Pen Tray and Wooden Catch-all 😮‍💨) But anyway, what I wanted to say is that since you're a designer and dabble in woodworking, I'd highly recommend a few brand/ tool changes that I think would cater more towards the up-scale audience and vibes of a chill, yet serious studio. Your Makita drills look good, but I'd ditch the Ridgid Shop vac and go with a Festool HEPA Dust Extractor 🤷‍♂ I have the CT 15 E and it is well worth the price. I've used Ridgid Vacs in the past and they're fine for maybe a garage or construction site, but Festool products are simply exquisite, higher quality and much more reliable and always frustration-free ( that alone is worth the $400 asking price if you're in business for yourself ). I'd also highly recommend Bessey clamps because again the materials and feel are top quality. Woodpecker is great and absolutely the most accurate in the measurement/ keeping-things-aligned-and-straight department. Starrett makes amazing combo squares and Veritas for fine woodworking tools. I have a few Veritas mortise chisels (Walnut handle with PM-V11 Steel) and they are simply a work of art. This is just my opinion however and by no means am I telling you what to do. I just think if you had tools like these, those that watch your videos and those that visit your office will think to themselves "Wow, this guy means business." Anyway! I always enjoy your content and can't wait to see what comes out of this studio of yours in the not so distant future.

I keep on watcing this video whenever I wanted to relax. The same time re-learning the process you did. Really great content! And the coffee mug you're using looks beautiful. Where did you get it?

Some really wonderful ideas. I wish I had space for some of them (more for my costumer wife than graphic designer me), but NY space just doesn’t make it totally feasible. Hopefully I can incorporate some of them in future redecorations or spaces. 👍

I think many of these ideas can be applied to a small space. You just have to spend time developing concepts.

Hey Matthew, another great video as always. Been sporadic with my YT consumption, but having the whole series to watch is sublime. Quick question: where is your mug/cup from? Looks great and I'd love to add it to my collection. If it's handmade, well darn. Thanks!

Ooh, IKEA just released a new wall divider on wheels that looks like this (Mittzon), would be a great IKEA hack to add their peg boards on one side like you did here
