Concerning that Matthew Kelly delivering such an important message gets a few hundred views, while pop stars with nothing to say ( for example Taylor Swift ) gets hundreds of millions, even billions of views. Spread the word about this spiritual crusader with friends and family. Thanks for your efforts sir, keep up the great work.

I am humbled by your discussion. A much needed reminder of what gossip is and what it does. Confession is the solution I need to use more often.

Something I realized was how easy I can fall into this in a chat room-especially when it comes to political discussions. Great topic thank you!

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? If you answer "no" to any of those, then don't say it. We are held accountable for EVERY word we speak.

This is a really tough and convicting talk, but since you say we become desensitized to gossip, how do we interpret gossip from just talking about a person in the present reality of that person. For example when my sister and I have to deal with a difficult person (often family member), we wonder why that person does what they do and how we’ve tried to help to no avail. We feel for that person and their circumstances, even though most were brought on by their own life choices. This is between my sister and it’s all true. And often out of frustration. We want them to do well, to be happy. We want them to make better choices. These conversations are not with just anyone or strangers. However, I’m guessing this is in fact is gossip?

Thank you for talking about this, so many times I justify myself by saying that I’m not doing anything wrong, but I know now I am

ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM: “Respect that Table in which we all participate. After participating in such a Table, and communing such Food, why take up arms against one another? Not only arrows and javelins cause wounds. Certain words inflict more profound wounds. A word pronounced against your brother is poison shot from your mouth. If your neighbor harmed you, ask God to show mercy to him. He is your brother, a member of Christ’s body. He is called to one and the same Table with you.”

I came across this image and I’ve placed it as my Lock Screen on my devices- good way to avoid gossip Before you speak: T - is it True? H - is it Helpful? I - is it Inspiring? N - is it Necessary? K- is it Kind? If the answer is No to any of these THINK questions, then don’t say it. It is a good way to avoid the evil gossip trap.

POPE BENEDICT XV (succeeded Pius X in 1912): “In the Church there is room for divergent opinions, and it is clearly the right of everyone to express and defend his or her own opinion. But in such discussions no expressions should be used that might constitute serious breaches of charity; let each one freely defend his or her own opinion, but let it be done with due moderation, so that no one should consider himself or herself entitled to affix on those who merely do not agree with their ideas the stigma of disloyalty to faith or to discipline. It is, moreover, our will that Catholics should abstain from certain appellations (designations) that have recently been brought into use to distinguish one group of Catholics from another. They are to be avoided... they give rise to great trouble and confusion among Catholics... There is no need of adding any qualifying terms to the profession of Catholicism; it is quite enough for each one to proclaim ‘Catholic is my name and Christian is my surname,’ only let them endeavor to be in reality what they call themselves.”

Is commenting about my concern with Pope Francis, to say all paths lead to God. Where is the demarcation between a legitimate concern and sinful gossip. Or to play it safe stop commenting!
