I admire you for wearing protective gear when using the chainsaw. That was another glimpse of how much work goes into making each and every piece of you magnificent pottery!

Throwing a bunch of pots is like having a pet. You've got to regularily check on them, or bad things happen.... One thing I've done when attaching decorations to a curved surface, is after cutting them out from the slab and stamping the design, I lay them over something with a similar curve, like a rolling pin. This helps prevent them from trying to go back to their flattened shape, due to the clay's "memory". I've recently switched to "Magic Water" for most of my joins. It has been working great. I gave it a bit of a test, the other day. I connected a couple pieces, then set outside in direct sunlight to dry it fast. It didn't crack a bit.

Ben Patterson what is “magic water”
@benpatterson44524 жыл бұрын
@@sheilacarroll3981 It is a mixture, use for joining, that a lot of potters use. I'm not sure who is attributed with its creation. There are a couple different recipes for it, and "Magic Mud" floating around on the interwebs. Here is the one I use: 10-2/3 Cups water 2 Tablespoons Sodium Silicate 3/4 teaspoon Soda Ash I use hot water to help both the Sodium Silicate and Soda Ash better disolve. The Sodium Silicate also known as "Water Glass" helps create a bond, when the clay is fired, as it melts. The Soda Ash is a water soluble flux, that helps transport the Sodium Silicate into the clay, and then helps it melt. Do be careful with the Magic Water, when it comes to clay scraps you may recycle. Since Sodium Silicate is a deflocculant. it can mess up your reclaimed/ recycled clay.

I tend to use white vinegar instead of slip. I’ve never had a join fail with it.

Yep I’m fine. Just taking a break from producing so many videos. Also been helping Danielle with the kids and her school work and learning to bake bread. Views, sub count, and revenue on YT have dropped like a rock and I decided to stop looking at it for a bit. I’ll keep making videos at least once a week but needed to step back just a little to take a breather.

Great informative video. I always learn some “ pearl of Knowledge “ from your video. I do watch Justin Makery also. Would like to know about the cookie cutter. The side look like great idea less distortion and easier transfer to ware board. Love the chain sawing. We cut about 7-8 cords just heat for winter. @MatthewKellyPottery3 жыл бұрын
No it doesn’t effect the clay and it burns off during bisque firing.

What more could you ask for? Pottery and a chain saw with both thumbs intact at the end, where your daughter can inspect your results. I have decided to stop using the corn starch as much, however I have yet to see any problems or difference with glazes single firing by leaving the corn starch on. I did not have the corn starch on the underside where it would come in contact with the slip. I like using the veggie oil spray for cutouts and stamps. Really enjoyed the video and hope the cutter helped to speed up the process by a few milliseconds. Thanks for sharing and hope you and the family stay well.......a little dab of honey may help your voice box.
