The giant depraved one in the Valley of Defilement seems regularly sized, because the level designer deliberately made the hole behind him really big, and the bridges go from very small to extra large. @tarrickmerdev2324 Жыл бұрын
@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 Unfortunately that's true of the rest of the series, in general. Matt talks about that in his Lost Soul Arts video which, in my opinion, is spot on in his assessments and it's the main reason that I've never been able to get into DS3. They clearly designed for difficulty instead of just using it to enhance the broader experience and dodge-rolling through varying strings of attacks with odd timings just isn't why I found the series interesting.
@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 Жыл бұрын
@@tarrickmerdev2324 I loved ds3 personally, so can't agree there. I don't think the remake sucks due to any ingoing trends in the series as a whole, its simply just that bluepoint diddnt understand the original and just updated things to be more in line with common dark fantasy tropes, often in a way that completely misses what the originals intentions actually were. Why it turned out that way I don't know, maybe miyazaki was too busy with new games to oversee the remake. My issues with the remake are more related to its atmosphere and less to do with gameplay changes. Stuff like the design change to the fat officials completely changes the feel they give from theses sneering figures who enjoy your suffering (which reflects their place in the story) compared to the remake where their appearance honestly makes them seem more like victims (completely flying in the face of what their actual role in the game is). To put simply the remake looks pretty, but the changes to the visual design make it feel like a far more generic fantasy world than the the original.

Considering the characterization of many of the NPCs and also the amount of traps, I'd say this was a forethought about morality among adventurers to get rid of the competition, so to speak, and it's brought back in the message system. Yeah, that's possible. I always thought of it as nasty water haze "rain" dripping down from the cave... or maybe the humidity is so high that it forms water droplets. Anyway... I imagine the valley of defilement to be extremely uncomfortable. It's wet, it stinks, it's hot and cold - depending on where you are, it's poisonous, and it's dangerous. He had to cheat engine himself to ng+69 to get to his goal ng cycle after around 5, seven-hour streams at ng+19. At ng+69 even chip damage through shields is lethal.

The giant depraved one thing seems to be done with a neat trick that messes with your eyes. The hole in the wall looks smaller than it actually is because it's far away, and the depraved one fits perfectly in that small hole in the wall, it already looks smaller than it is because of it being far away, but the way it fits in the hole probably messes with you as well, giving off the illusion that it's normally sized. This is all speculation, though, I don't know dick about the technical side of optical illusions.

I thought the depraved was big, because from across the bridge, he's about as large as your character. Which shouldn't be the case, cause you see the regular depraved from a distance and they're considerably smaller. Then again I work as an artist, so perhaps I'm more likely to notice these discrepancies. It was very surprising to me that Matthew even brought it up, since to me, it was so intuitive that the depraved was bigger.

Just finished watching through this video, and it's doubled as my first watch of a full Demon's Souls playthrough as well, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Really fascinating to see a game that spawned such an iconic series be structured, designed, and laid out so much differently that the games that followed it. The actual tangibility given to Boletaria in general vs. Lordran's "time/space is distorted," the demon's souls being semi-defined as currency/powr, and the use of an "old one" well before Bloodborne was conceptualized was a highly unexpected real breath of fresh air. As always your points and comments about game design are things that resonate with me a lot, whether I agree with them or not. I also just have to point out how much I loved your Old Monk bit as the capstone to your melee > magic running gag, all of that was just pure comedy gold and had me in stitches. Honourable mention going to the Dragon God bit about living on the edge and not playing by Miyazaki's "rules" followed promptly by a roasting. My only point of contention was an almost total lack of the Nexus being shown in the video, as well as dialogue with NPCs, but those are both things that I can easily accept as both "not in the scope of this playthrough" and "reasons to play the damn game myself." Well done! Moving on to your Dark Souls one now.

If a game wants to force the player to dodge or run away to avoid the attack, they should make a sweeping attack. Not an overhead attack which has the enemies spin like they’re on a record play. Soulsborne games were better when they adhered to the laws of physics, as that made the game rewarding for interpreting the moves in a logical way, as well as more immersive.

One thing I would like to add about Demon's Souls is its atmosphere compared to Dark Souls. In Dark Souls, it's very much drab, bleak, and depressing the whole way through. Even Anor Londo has this going on, since the place is completely empty and dead. Demon's souls, on the other hand, has this feeling of the ethereal and otherworldly. I think Miyazaki aimed to make it more fitting with the "souls" than anything else. After all, you're just some ghost in Boletaria, trying to escape purgatory.
@PeskeyStrider210 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I feel Demon souls is the best out of all souls series.

Andrew Yabrifa No, I'm not saying that. It's just that it does different things. To be honest, I personally like Dark Souls better due to its tight world design and improved combat. Not to mention, world tendencies feel a little unnecessary at times.

One tip about quitting and reloading your game is to just pick the load save file option from the menu, then select the file you’re currently playing. It saves sitting through a second load screen and makes the sparkles trades much more bearable. Also thanks for the in depth look! @@wuwei473 I personally prefer the s dodge gameplay type mechanics, which is probably why I disliked Dark Souls 2 so much with the adapt thing. Especially in combination with the camera and lock on system, so I do sympathize when a game completely ignores a playstyle Since besides Elden Ring & Demon Souls I haven't felt compelled to use shields. In Dark Souls 1 & 3 I would only use shields for the buff or really bad parry attempt, but it wasn't needed, and sometimes was more a liability than an asset. Sadly I think the only realistic direction for Elden ring is going to make it so shields & stamina management is less required, if not altogether replaced by something more similar to Bloodborne & Sekiro.

Thought you might like to know - the first dragon that protects the bridge in the second part of Boletaria, you can actually attack it with melee. If you stand in a specific spot where the dragon just first starts to flame the bridge, you can attack it from underneath. It's tricky to figure out the right spot but once you do, you can continue to attack up at the dragon and kill it a bit quicker.

Both option will almost always eliminate the lagging problems :)

Shrine of Storms isn't medieval, it is pre-medieval, possibly middle-eastern or slavic. There are no dragons, knights and priests in there. The ancient burial ground populated with dead barbarian warriors and old pagan gods. And crows.
@codythompson99735 жыл бұрын
@RUBY DA CHERRY noop9k does have a point though. It is ancient from even the time period of Demon's Souls. You also have a point as well. But, maybe the medieval weaponry there is from adventurers traveling the ruins (shrine) and getting killed? That is my guess. I am simply saying both of you have a point. (This last paragraph is directed toward the original commenter): Also, this is a commentary. I am sure there are plenty of other slip-ups in this video (if this even can be considered a slip-up). Still an amazing commentary in my opinion.
@Garviel-Loken4 жыл бұрын
I know this is really late but the medieval period of history (from the 5th to 15th century) was in fact global. Shrine of storms does not have a middle Eastern aesthetic as the were not building castles and keeps in the same way Europe did. From an architectural standpoint it's very medieval. Very little about this area suggests the east. Also dragons are fictional and your idea of "medieval" is dungeons and dragons. Barbarians and pagans are a very western.

I don't know if anyone else has thought of this but I find the Adjudicator might have some links to eastern mythology. Considering the heavy references to eastern weapons and Satsuki, the Adjudicator has a blade in it's stomach like a samurai committing seppuku. When the Adjudicator falls down also goes into prostration position, a samurai position showing submission. Just a thought.
