Actually, the sole reason I'm opting for a foldable smartphone is to break away from the monotony of standard smartphones, which have become unexciting and lack innovation. Foldable smartphones ought to combine the essentials of a basic smartphone with the advanced features of a high-quality mini-tablet. I'm quite pleased that Samsung remains committed to prioritizing the inner display over the outer one. The outer display serves for basic tasks, encouraging users to unfold the device and utilize the inner display for a fuller and better experience. If Samsung were to enhance the outer display too much, it could overshadow the benefits of the inner display which is the main part of foldable smartphones. Then, most people might argue that the device isn't worth the price if they aren't using the inner screen extensively for the best experience. Many people fail to grasp that a foldable smartphone shouldn't merely be a typical candy bar phone with an extra oversized screen. Instead, it ought to be akin to a mini-tablet that incorporates the fundamental features of a smartphone within its foldable design.
@andyH_England2 ай бұрын
I see it the other way, around the de facto smartphone that can open to a tablet on the occasions you need it. As he said in this video, most of the stuff we use a smartphone for is to do quick stuff. We do not want to be forced to open for that. I think Samsung fans use this get-out-of-jail card by saying it is a tablet with smartphone functionality; nah, most of us know it's a smartphone with a tremendous inner display when needed.
@TheNorwegianDronePilot2 ай бұрын
@@andyH_England No, the Z Flip series is the foldable smartphone that is the one that should be the real smartphone that folds. The Z Folds are the mini-tablets with smartphone capabilities that does the most basic stuffs as a smartphone but does stuffs as a mini-tablet extremely well. This is actually Samsung own goal as well, something they have openly said them self somewhere. I have been reading it but can't remember where I have seen it.
@connorburke57612 ай бұрын
I haven't watched the whole video yet, so maybe I'm missing something that you're referencing, but I think that both the inside and outside screens should be fully functional and not be "annoying" to use in any way. You shouldn't support Samsung doing what they're doing and say that they're "committed to prioritizing the inner display", because they clearly aren't. The aspect ratio is still uncommon, the hole punch camera technology hasn't improved at all since it was introduced on the Z fold 3, there's still a massive crease (I personally don't care about that, but its a testament to just how much they care about improving their fold), and if the inner screen was a priority then it the phone would have a built in pen for writing and note-taking (after all that's the whole point of a big screen - aka the Note lineup). This isn't exactly on topic since you didn't go right out and say you like the Samsung, but I'll say it anyway. The Z fold 6 is an absolute embarrassment to Samsung and is the exact opposite of innovation. The largest improvements come from the Snapdragon processor used inside, offering better camera processing capability and increased efficiency + performance. They haven't changed the cameras or battery in years, and only now have they finally updated the screens to be LTPO and a usable brightness. It's still way thicker and heavier than it should be and is overall a very disappointing device. Also, just to reiterate, a folding phone of this style (not a flip) should not have any compromises on the inside or outside screen. "Essentials of a basic smartphone" are apps and functions that are used to and optimized for a very specific aspect ratio. Phones for years have always been the same, and if you make a screen that's far narrower it makes it unusable. But if the other screen option is equally unusable, then you're left in a bit of an awkward place, not having a screen that can do exactly what you want it to do. The ideal folding phone is one that folds twice, giving you a useful inside + outside screen (plus it saves on resources, only needing one panel and one selfie camera instead of two of each), but that's a discussion for a different day. The idea of a folding phone shouldn't be "which one do I use more often, the inside or outside screen", but rather, "What can I accomplish better with having the two options that I do at my disposal". Watching media, multitasking, web browsing, PDF and Excel Sheet viewing, etc. Can all be done on the inside screen, but things like texting, quick emails, and social media can be done just fine on the outside screen *IF* the aspect ratio is good enough on both. The Chinese foldables do this well. Samsung does not.
@TheNorwegianDronePilot2 ай бұрын
@@connorburke5761 The core issue, which seems to be overlooked by many, is that if Samsung enhances the outer screen's usability too much, the majority of Z Fold users will predominantly use the outer screen, neglecting the inner screen in most situations. This has been substantiated by several tech KZbinrs who, after using other foldable phones with a more conventional outer screen aspect ratio, found themselves rarely opening the inner screen. They questioned the need to use the inner screen when the outer screen sufficed for most tasks. The intent behind the Z Fold design is to encourage usage that maximizes the device's value beyond that of a standard smartphone. If I were to use my Z Fold6 as a regular smartphone most of the time, it would not justify the additional expense when I could opt for a much more affordable S24 Ultra instead. The primary reason for purchasing a Z Fold is for the inner screen and the mini-tablet functionality, not the outer screen. The overall experience is greatly enhanced by using the inner screen, which offers a superior experience compared to a standard smartphone. The Z Fold is purchased to break away from the monotony of traditional smartphones. In essence, the Z Folds serve as mini-tablets with basic smartphone functions, whereas the Z Flips are akin to foldable standard smartphones. I appreciate your understanding. Thank you.
@TheNorwegianDronePilot2 ай бұрын
@@connorburke5761 It seems there's a misunderstanding about the appeal of Z Fold devices for users. We, the Z Fold enthusiasts, purchase these devices to break free from the conventional candy bar smartphone design, opting instead for a mini-tablet experience that leverages the larger inner screen for enhanced usability. If our intention was to use the Z Fold merely as a standard smartphone, it would be more economical to choose the S24 Ultra and save a significant amount of money. Foldable smartphones are not meant to be typical phones with an additional large screen. They are designed to offer a mini-tablet experience, with the primary focus on the expansive inner screen, while the outer screen provides the convenience for quick, routine tasks. In essence, the decision to invest in a Z Fold is not driven by the desire to own just another smartphone at a premium price. Myself and many others are drawn to the superior experience provided by the Z Fold's inner screen. I appreciate your time in reading and understanding my perspective. Thank you.

The best way I can explain this is that when I was setting up my Z fold 5 (not my fisrt foldable) I used the largers internal screen for the majority of the setup whereas I did teh entire setup of the Pixel 9 Pro fold using only the smaller external screen. Thanks for mentioning the dimensions. At 8" on the Google Pixel Fold Phone why Samsung doesn't measure up on making an 8" inner display is beyond me. I hate how narrow they still are on the main screen. I have both the LG V60 and LG G8X both with the second screen cases. The second screen is mainly off but I hold it in my left hand to type & at 90° with the screen off it is my palm and thumb rest. It is so much more comfortable to type on with the second screen partially open than folded all the way back. I can also hold my phone open like a book. When I am ready upgrade to a pure foldable a Google Pixel Phone is what I want. I have a Galaxy Tab FE 10" with a pen included and I still haven't used it yet just even play with it.

Great review/comparison as always! Add the newest oneplus open (crimson) to pt 2 of this comparison please! Would love to see an in depth comparison of all 3 in terms of Hinge Quality, performance, battery life, camera, and multi-tasking. Am a power-user and I’ve been wanting to buy a foldable for some time now because of the multi-tasking features but I’m super skeptical of the previously mentioned categories because it just feels wiser to use something like the s24 Ultra without having to compromise on build quality (hinges), camera reliability, software bs, battery life or performance… Would be great to multitask more but that means nothing if am paying more $ for a compromise in any one of those areas.

Meanwhile, the Z Fold form factor is why I will never go back to a slab phone. Different strokes. For me, the Z Fold form factor is perfect, at least until I can get a triple screen foldable like Huawei just released. Typing on the Z Fold is dead simple with one hand. Don't waste your money on a foldable phone if you are going to use the front display most of the time. Besides I only picked up my first Z Fold when they came out with the pen so obviously I wouldn't consider any phone that doesn't have one. Somehow there's a weird complaint that the pen doesn't work on the front display when almost all other foldables don't have a pen at all.

I do prefer the Pixel's outer display when typing and watching videos but also love that the Z Fold 6 is easier to hold. I'm leaning towards keeping the Pixel and selling the Fold but it's a very tough decision!

@@GodsGrace0708 I have a Pixel pro 7 and the feature that's most important that no other phone has is the caller id and call screening. Scam calls used to automatically bounce it didn't even let my phone ring, also to have it talk to a Google assistant before I even answer while giving the full name or companies of who's calling is a serious feature that my Fold 6 doesn't have. I love the Fold 6 though because it's my first foldable phone the technology is amazing it's almost 2 phones in one, but the camera sucks, definitely not as good as my Pixel 7 pro. I just got the Fold 6 2 weeks ago, I can return it under a month and get the Pixel 9 Fold so I'm still deciding because the only thing that's missing in the Samsung is the caller id=screening that was useful in the Pixel.

Here are the key takeaways from the video comparing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold: * Form Factor: The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a wider aspect ratio, making the front screen more usable for typing and everyday tasks. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is narrower, which can feel cramped for some users. * Display: Both phones have excellent inner displays, but the Pixel 9 Pro Fold gets slightly brighter. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has thinner bezels around the inner display. * Cameras: Both phones have comparable camera systems, but the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a superior telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom compared to the 3x zoom on the Z Fold 6. The Z Fold 6 has better video stabilization. * Performance: The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a slightly faster processor, but both phones are powerful enough for most users. * Battery Life: Battery life is similar on both devices, but the Pixel 9 Pro Fold may have a slight edge for everyday use. * Software: The Pixel 9 Pro Fold runs Pixel OS, which has a cleaner look and feel. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 runs One UI, which offers more features and customization options. * Other Features: The Galaxy Z Fold 6 supports the S Pen, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold does not. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a flatter camera bump, making it more stable when lying flat on a table. Overall: The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the recommended choice for most users due to its more usable front screen and slightly better camera system. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a good option for those who need S Pen support or prefer the wider range of features offered by One UI. 😊
